Campeonato Mediterraneo de Velocidad - Mallorca New Limit

Este domingo daba comienzo en el circuito de Montmeló el Campeonato Mediterráneo de Velocidad, antes conocido como el Campeonato de Cataluña de Velocidad. El equipo Mallorca New Limit acudía a la cita para participar en la categoría 600 series con Enric Ferrer y en la categoría Pre-125 con Ángel Poyatos.
Las jornadas de entrenamiento transcurrieron con normalidad, puestas a punto y preparación para esta primera prueba de carácter nacional, con la ilusión de todo equipo, luciendo con orgullo la imagen de las Islas Baleares.
Enric Ferrer en la categoría 600 series, después de lograr la quinta posición de parrilla y remontar hasta el tercer puesto en la primera vuelta, ha terminado con una desafortunada caída, aunque sin consecuencias físicas para el piloto, pero con la lógica decepción por no haber logrado medir sus fuerzas con el resto de pilotos.
Pero la mayor decepción ha venido en la categoría Pre-125, donde el joven Ángel Poyatos se ha visto envuelto en una accidentada salida que ha obligado a detener la carrera. Las motos se han dirigido a parque cerrado hasta poder reanudar la carrera, pero la organización no ha permitido reparar las motos afectadas, una falta de comunicación con los comisarios deportivos y una decepcionante coordinación han impedido tomar la salida al piloto mallorquín al reanudarse la competición.
El equipo ha interpuesto una reclamación a la organización, que ha reconocido su error, frente a la Federación Española, aunque la imagen que ha ofrecido ante los participantes ha sido lamentable, ya que de nada sirve reconocer el error una vez finalizada la prueba en la que Ángel Poyatos no ha podido participar y de la que sale con un amargo sabor de boca frente a la negligencia de la organización.

Melbourne (AUS). Das BMW Sauber F1 Team erzielte beim Saisonauftakt 2008 den fünften Podestplatz in seiner jungen Laufbahn. Nick Heidfeld kam beim Großen Preis von Australien als Zweiter ins Ziel. Teamkollege Robert Kubica hingegen hatte Pech: Der Pole war von Platz zwei gestartet und lag an fünfter Position, als er beim Neustart nach einer Safety-Car-Phase gerammt wurde.

„Das war ein phantastischer Saisonauftakt für uns. Das Team hat wahnsinnig hart gearbeitet, um die anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten mit dem F1.08 zu überwinden. Wir haben uns stetig verbessert und sind noch lange nicht am Limit mit dem Auto. Beim Start hatte ich sehr stark durchdrehende Räder und konnte Nico Rosberg nicht hinter mir halten. Ich dachte, das wird ein schwieriges Rennen, denn ich ging davon aus, dass er später als ich tanken würde. Aber dann kamen wir in derselben Runde an die Box, und unsere Crew hat war absolut phantastisch und hat mich an Nico vorbeigebracht. Bei meinem zweiten Stopp hatte ich Glück, dass die Safety-Car-Phase keine Runde früher kam und ich wie geplant tanken konnte. Im letzten Stint habe ich mir dann Mühe gegeben, die weicheren Option-Reifen nicht zu ruinieren. Insgesamt war das erste Rennen ohne Traktionskontrolle weniger schwierig als gedacht.“

„Anfangs lief mein Rennen ziemlich gut. Ich war auf einer ähnlichen Strategie wie Nick unterwegs und war schnell. Dann haben wir meine Rennstrategie geändert, und das hat sich im Nachhinein nicht ausgezahlt. Ich hing hinter Bourdais fest und verlor zu viel Zeit. Dennoch hatte ich Chancen auf Punkte, bis mir am Ende der dritten Safety-Car-Phase Nakajima ins Heck krachte und ich aufgeben musste.“

„Das war für unser BMW Sauber F1 Team ein phantastischer Auftakt in die neue Saison. Nick hat in einem turbulenten Rennen mit drei Safety-Car-Phasen und zahlreichen Ausfällen kühlen Kopf bewahrt und uns als Zweiter den ersten Podestplatz der Saison beschert. Nur Lewis Hamilton war schneller. Das war ein echtes Strategiespiel. Nick hatte mit den Zeitpunkten der Safety-Car-Phasen Glück, bei Robert hat es leider nicht gepasst. Am Ende wurde er von Nakajima auch noch von der Strecke befördert. Aber er war bis dahin und auch tags zuvor im Qualifying ganz stark unterwegs gewesen. Zusammen mit unserem sehr guten Qualifying am Samstag ist dies eine gute Basis für die kommenden Rennen. Für das ganze Team war dies ein enormer Motivationsschub. Ein großes Dankeschön gilt den Kollegen in München und Hinwil.“

„Das war ein aufregendes Rennen mit gemischten Gefühlen. Es ist grandios, dass Nick Zweiter geworden ist, aber es tut mir sehr Leid, dass Robert so ein Pech hatte. Beim Start wurde Nick von Nico Rosberg überholt, aber die schnelle Arbeit der Boxenmannschaft hat ihn beim Stopp wieder nach vorn gebracht. Danach fuhr er ein schnelles, konstantes Rennen und profitierte von der dritten Safety-Car-Phase. Wir haben Roberts Rennstrategie während der zweiten Safety-Car-Phase geändert, aber dann steckte er leider hinter Bourdais fest und verlor viel Zeit. Nachdem ihm dann Nakajima ins Heck gefahren war, musste er aus Sicherheitsgründen an der Box aufgeben.“

F1 Australien GP 2008

The ING Renault F1 Team made the most of an eventful Australian Grand Prix to claim a fourth place finish with Fernando Alonso. But the joy was tempered by the retirement of Nelson Piquet, who was unable to complete his first Grand Prix after sustaining damage on the opening lap of the race.
Having endured a difficult qualifying session yesterday, Fernando and Nelson started the race in 11th and 20th places, but the team was confident of progressing in the race and targeted a points finish. Those aspirations looked achievable after both drivers made up ground during a hectic first lap. Nelson was up to 12th place by the end of the first lap, but he sustained damage to the rear of his car which ultimately ended his race.
Fernando delivered a fighting drive, carving his way through the field to eventually snatch fourth place in the closing stages of the race, despite losing ground during two of the safety car periods. The result places the ING Renault F1 Team in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship with a total of five points as the team heads to Malaysia for the next race in a week’s time.

“That was a very strange race with lots of overtaking, incidents and mechanical problems for lots of drivers. We were able to make the most of the opportunities that came our way today and finished the first Grand Prix with a good result, which will give the team a boost and give us confidence for the rest of the season. However, we must continue working to improve our level of performance in qualifying and our pace in the race, but the result today is very important for us.”
Nelson Piquet, DNF
“I made a good start and I was able to make up some places during the first lap, which was pretty hectic. Unfortunately I was hit at the start, which damaged my car and so I did not manage to reach the end of my first Grand Prix. Of course, I am disappointed, but I learned a lot this weekend and I cannot wait to go to Malaysia to continue my apprenticeship and hopefully get a better result. I already know the Sepang circuit, so it should be easier.”

“Fernando’s fourth place today is an excellent omen for the start of the season. He drove a superb race, fighting all the way from the back of the field. Even though we were set back twice by the safety car, what he managed to do was exceptional. In particular, his overtaking of the McLaren in the closing stages was spectacular. We still have to work, but it is encouraging to see that we are not the only team that needs to improve. As far as Nelson goes, this was his first race and a difficult one for him. But I am sure this has been a learning experience for him, and I am confident that in the races to come he will do better.”

“I think that Fernando’s performance today was just wonderful. He used everything that we gave him and more. We were rather unlucky with the safety cars and debated whether to switch strategies under the safety car, but our tyre wear would not allow us to change on to the soft tyre and reach the end of the race with just one stop. As it was Fernando got severe graining on the soft tyres in his final stint, which gave him a lot of understeer. Nelson’s difficult weekend continued as he got hit on the start line which caused considerable damage to the rear of the car. He found it very difficult to drive, which explains his slow lap times and maybe even his retirement as we are still investigating what happened.”
