El Puigmajor recupera todo su esplendor

La Escudería Serra de Tramuntana ha celebrado su trigésima edición con un rotundo éxito de participación y asistencia de aficionados, devolviéndonos la mítica prueba al esplendor de hace algunas décadas. Finalmente fueron 51 los pilotos que participaron en la cita destacando al subcampeón de España de CM, Iñigo Martínez con un Silver Car, y a Raúl Borreguero con una Audi A4 que se desplazaban desde la península.
En los entrenamientos del sábado se definían las cinco primeras plazas que se calcaban en ambas mangas. Iñigo Martínez marcaba el mejor crono seguido de Gabi Arrabal y Raúl Borreguero. Muy cerca se situaban el Bango de Mario Hekke y José Martorell que era el mejor carrozado de los pilotos locales. Por detrás un nutrido grupo de pilotos formado por Juan Bibiloni, Sebastián Galmés, Julián Gómez, David García y Luís Nigorra luchaban por entrar en el top cinco.
La jornada dominical comenzaba con amenaza de lluvia que por fortuna no llegó a descargar y de nuevo los aficionados acudían en masa a la cita sollerica. Tras las dos mangas de carrera Iñigo Martínez confirmaba su superioridad y se anotaba la victoria demostrando su buen momento de forma. Gabi Arrabal era segundo a poco más de dos segundos del piloto navarro. El tercer cajón del podium cambiaba de manos y pasaba a ser para Mario Hekke que conseguía superar por tres segundos al Audi de Raúl Borreguero. Sorpresa también entre los carrozados isleños cuya victoria iba a manos de Luís Nigorra a los mandos de su Mitsubishi Evo 5. En el mismo segundo quedaban cuatro pilotos lo que demuestra lo reñida que fue esta edición. Las décimas de segundos decidían las siguientes plazas que era para Dani Lozano, David García, José Martorell y Julián Gómez (sexto, séptimo, octavo y noveno respectivamente). En las siguientes plazas y de nuevo a menos de un segundo se clasificaban Joan Bibiloni y Sebastián Galmés.
En cuanto a los grupos, entre los grupo N la victoria era para el Renault Clio de Rudy Hensen, mientras que Rafa Binimelis solo podía ser segundo al romper el embrague de su Clio en las últimas curvas de la primera ascensión. Raúl Palenzuela se clasificaba segundo de A2 por detrás de Borreguero, mientras que en grupo I victoria incontestable de Daniel Lozano (R-11 Turbo), siendo segundo Jordi Santandreu. Marc Ordinas se imponía en grupo R y Tacho lo hacía entre los Históricos.
Entre los incidentes destacar las salidas de carretera de Pablo Bujosa (Citroen Saxo) y Jaume Aguiló (BMW M3), que se saldaron sin consecuencias físicas.
En esta edición del Puigmajor se contó además con la presencia del mítico piloto de Sabadell, Joan Fernández, al que se rindió un emotivo homenaje por parte de la afición mallorquina.

La subida más esperada de la temporada no ha defraudado ni a unos ni a otros. Los aficionados tras la llamada de la Escudería Serra de Tramuntana han acudido en masa a las cunetas del recorrido del Puigmajor, por otra parte los pilotos poco a poco se van animando y para esta tercera carrera de la temporada ya han llegado al medio centenar de inscritos. Entre ellos Mario Hekke a los mandos de un Bango BRC 05 esta mostrando su adaptación al monoplaza.
El piloto de la Escudería Mallorca Competició empezaba con registros discretos en la primera ascensión de entrenos del sábado, pero a medida que ha ido transcurriendo esta trigésima Subida al Puigmajor, Hekke ha ido rebajando sus tiempos sin prisas, pero sin pausas. La asistencia efectuada por el tres veces Campeón de España de la Copa CM, ha tenido mucho que ver según el piloto de Náutica Vermell, y es que el mallorquín Pedro Roca, ha descansado en su periplo por la península, y ha estado poniendo a punto el monoplaza de Mario Hekke.
Tras la manga de carrera y justo antes de recoger su justo premio Mario Hekke ha tenido unas palabras para los medios de comunicación:
"Me he divertido mucho creo que he hecho una carrera de menos a más, y aunque en la segunda subida he cometido un pequeño error al encontrarme una piedra en el recorrido y casi he trompeado, he podido salvar la situación y alcanzar la ansiada meta del Puigmajor. No todos los días uno compite contra el subcampeón de España de la especialidad, hemos terminado una vez más en el cajón y con ello creo que seguimos en la línea que nos hemos marcado desde principios de temporada. Asimismo quiero felicitar a Pedro Roca, gran parte de esa progresión en mi pilotaje proviene de él, sus ganas, su rabia y siempre pensar en mejorar son cosas de las que uno se contagia…y bueno ya ves, éste es el resultado".

TRIPLETE DE GABI ARRABAL EN EL PUIGMAJOR
Subida Puigmajor, (Sóller, Illes Balears) domingo 20 de septiembre de 2009.
El piloto de Sa Pobla, Gabi Arrabal, ha concluido la tercera prueba del Campeonato de Baleares de Montaña con un nuevo podium. La 30ª Pujada al Puigmajor rememoró viejos tiempos con una buena inscripción y una gran cantidad de aficionados como hacía muchos años que no veíamos.
Con la presencia del subcampeón de España de la categoría CM, Gabi Arrabal tenía un duro rival que tuvo que pelear más de lo esperado para obtener el triunfo final. En las mangas de entrenamientos del sábado Gabi se quedaba en segunda posición a tres segundos del piloto navarro, ambos rivales bajaron sus cronos en al segunda pasada.
En la jornada dominical se siguió la misma tónica y el pobler acababa la jornada en el segundo cajón del podium a dos segundos del vencedor. Gabi Arrabal conseguía su mejor crono en la primera manga de carrera a un escalofriante promedio de 115 kilómetros/hora. En el campeonato de Baleares continúa con su imparable ritmo al conseguir tres victorias de tres pruebas disputadas, por lo que su objetivo ya está al alcance de la mano cuando todavía faltan dos carreras para completar el calendario.
Al concluir la carrera nos comentaba:
“Estoy muy satisfecho por este resultado puesto que hemos demostrado que estamos a un buen nivel y podemos competir con los pilotos del nacional. Quiero dedicar esta victoria a mi hermana que está convaleciente de una delicada operación y dar las gracias al Campeón de España de la Copa CM, el mallorquín Pedro Roca por ayudarme en la difícil labor de puesta a punto de mi monoplaza. Además este resultado tiene mucho valor al coincidir con el homenaje y contar con la presencia de un piloto mítico del Puigmajor, Juan Fernández".

Spaniard takes his fifth win of the season in Imola
Andy Soucek celebrated his championship in style today, leapfrogging Mirko Bortolotti and Robert Wickens from the start to claim his fifth victory of the season.
The Spaniard, who clinched the championship yesterday, continued his impressive streak in Formula Two as he looks forward to a test with the AT&T Williams F1 team at the end of the season.
The race got off to a frenetic start - Soucek bursting between the Red Bull duo of Wickens and Bortolotti, and Mikhail Aleshin making his way up to fourth place. The Russian then passed Wickens on the outside at the Traguardo chicane, but Aleshin pushed too hard at the next corner and spun on the exit of Tamburello. His car was stranded on the circuit as the whole F2 field powered through - unfortunately, Jens Höing was unsighted and the German ploughed into Aleshin at high speed.
A safety car was instantly deployed but Pietro Gandolfi somehow did not see the boards and he ran into the slowing Natacha Gachnang ahead. The young Swiss female racer was furious with Gandolfi as she remonstrated with him after the accident. Both cars were out on the spot and this further prolonged the safety car period.
At the restart, Wickens got the jump on Bortolotti soon after the start/finish line, but the Italian had a problem. With smoke and oil coming from his car, Bortolotti pulled off but not before the slippery surface had caught out several drivers behind. Alex Brundle was having a great run but the young Englishman was the first to hit the oil and it fired him off into the barrier. Julien Jousse and Jack Clarke followed, although Clarke was able to rejoin.
Marshalls were able to put sand down on the oil while the race continued and leader Soucek was the first to throw up plumes of white dust into the cars behind. Wickens’ car was covered, which seemed to startle the Canadian momentarily as his vision was obscurred. The leading pair traded fastest laps towards the end of the race but they both maintained position as Soucek recorded his fifth win of the season.
Miloš Pavlović took a lonely yet well deserved third place. The Serbian has been struck by bad luck throughout much of 2009 so it was fitting that he made his first visit to the podium since Spa-Francorchaps in June.
Tobias Hegewald took fourth to fire himself back into the top six of the championship standings, whilst Carlos Iaconelli came home fifth.
There was a fantastic battle for sixth place and it will be a memorable one for young Briton Jolyon Palmer. The teenager has been in good form at Imola and he followed up his storming drive during yesterday’s race with another here today. His rise from 16th on the grid to sixth at the finish included a great pass on Spaniard Germán Sánchez, and he picked up his first points of the season ahead of Jason Moore and Sánchez. The reigning Formula Palmer Audi deserves great praise after racing with a fractured hand throughout the weekend, and a fantastic pass on Sánchez late on will have made his efforts all the more worthwhile.
Nicola De Marco and Philipp Eng both fought their way up from the back of the field and were challenging for sixth at one stage, but the pair eventually had to settle for ninth and tenth respectively. Armaan Ebrahim was struck with bad luck when his car did not get off the start line, whilst Kazim Vasiliauskas also retired when running well in the top six.
Andy Soucek said: "I got a good start. It was a bit dangerous because I was in the middle of the Red Bull cars and I was a bit uncomfortable, but I managed to squeeze up the inside. From then on I just pushed really hard to improve my lap times, I was very consistent and quick. Another victory, now five wins and eight podiums - I can’t really expect more. Today I really wanted it to be good, and I’m very proud."

Two victories for SEAT at Imola

TARQUINI AND MULLER SHARE GLORY IN IMOLA
The previous race meeting in Oschersleben had boosted Augusto Farfus’ and BMW’s hopes in the title fight. But today in Imola, SEAT Sport’s men Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller struck back and claimed a serious stake on both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ championships.
By sharing victories and second places on the Italian track, Tarquini and Muller built a solid cushion from Farfus, who now has an 18-point gap from the leader and lies 11 points behind the reigning champion. Meanwhile, SEAT’s leading margin in the Manufacturers’ standings was stretched to 21 points.
Although the battle for the world title hogged the limelight, James Thompson caused a sensation. Not only did the Briton score LADA’s first points in the Drivers’ Championship, but finishing sixth in both races he also showed that the pace of the Russian car has improved dramatically. Now podium results look to be within reach.
The championship is now facing a five-week break, before resuming on November 1st at Okayama, Japan, for rounds 21 and 22.

Timo Scheider auf DTM-Titelkurs

Montmeló. Eine perfekte Strategie, zwei ideale Boxenstopps und ein fehlerfreies Rennen. Das war für Audi-Pilot Timo Scheider auf dem Circuit de Catalunya nahe Barcelona die Grundlage für einen großen Schritt in Richtung Titelverteidigung. Der aktuelle DTM-Champion aus Lahnstein gewann nach 59 Runden und insgesamt 175,643 absolvierten Kilometern souverän den achten DTM-Lauf der Saison. Seine beiden Markenkollegen Tom Kristensen aus Dänemark und der Rosenheimer Martin Tomczyk komplettierten das Ingolstädter Siegertrio auf dem Treppchen. „Der Start war granatenmäßig. Ich denke, wenn man so etwas planen könnte, wäre es schön. Aber das war heute ein Stück weit Glück und auch die gute Arbeit von meinem Team. Zwölf Punkte Vorsprung in der Meisterschaft hören sich gut an. Die letzten beiden Rennen werden wir nun relaxt angehen können“, sagte der strahlende Sieger über seinen insgesamt fünften Sieg in der DTM und den zweiten in dieser Saison.
Mit zehn Punkten für Platz eins und insgesamt 53 Zählern führt der 30-Jährige weiterhin in der Gesamtwertung. Seine härtesten Verfolger sind der Schwede Mattias Ekström (Audi) mit 41 Punkten, der beim Gastspiel in Spanien hinter Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz) Fünfter wurde und der Mercedes-Benz-Pilot Gary Paffett mit 39 Zählern. Der Brite wurde als Vierter bester Pilot einer AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse. „Natürlich bin ich enttäuscht. Wir wollten vorne mitmischen, wollten Audi schlagen. Das hat leider nicht geklappt, wir hatten einfach nicht den nötigen Speed. Im Qualifying hatten wir denselben Speed wie Audi. Aber heute hat es nicht gereicht - aus welchem Grund auch immer. Mehr als Platz vier war damit wohl nicht drin“, sagte Paffett zu seinem Ergebnis.
Der achte Lauf der populärsten internationalen Tourenwagenserie begann mit einer taktischen Glanzleistung von Audi. Sowohl der von der Pole-Position gestartete Kristensen, als auch der hinter dem Dänen auf Platz drei stehende Tomczyk fuhren beim Start nach rechts und machten so den Platz für Scheider frei, der als Fünfter ebenfalls auf der linken Seite der Startaufstellung stand. Der spätere Sieger setze sich ausgangs der zweiten Kurve an die Spitze und gab seine Führung bis zum Rennende nicht mehr ab. Im Verfolgerfeld gab es für die Fans jede Menge packende Zweikämpfe zu sehen. Besonders spannend wurde es nach dem späten zweiten Boxenstopp von Ekström in Runde 43. Der zweimalige DTM-Champion aus den Jahren 2004 und 2007 reihte sich direkt hinter Paffett auf der Strecke ein und attackierte den Briten mehrfach. Es kam zu einer Berührung, für die Ekström mit der schwarz-weißen Flagge verwarnt wurde. Eine Runde vor Ende des Rennens versuchte Ekström außen an Paffett vorbei zu gehen. Der Versuch misslang und Spengler konnte den Schweden überholen.
Bester Pilot eines Fahrzeugs des Jahrgangs 2008 wurde der Franzose Alexandre Prémat im Audi A4 DTM auf Platz acht. Eine tolle Aufholjagd präsentierte Ralf Schumacher. Nachdem der 34-Jährige aufgrund eines Motorentauschs nach dem Warm-up von Platz 20 in das Rennen ging, kämpfte sich der Mercedes-Benz-Pilot bis auf Platz 13 vor.
Das neunte und vorletzte DTM-Wochenende des Jahres findet vom 9. bis 11. Oktober im französischen Dijon-Prenois statt.
Audi-Motorsportchef Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich: „Ich freu ich mich sehr über das Ergebnis. Das war eine tolle Mannschaftsleistung. Die Meisterschaft haben wir noch nicht eingefahren. Aber das war ein wichtiger Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Eine überzeugende Performance und richtig harte Arbeit unserer Teams waren ausschlaggebend. Es war ein perfektes Wochenende in Barcelona. Vor allem für Timo, der einen perfekten Start hingelegt hat. So ein Start gelingt einem wohl nur einmal im Leben. Tom und Martin waren mit einem sehr guten Speed unterwegs. Ich hoffe, die Zuschauer haben den Kampf um die Punkteränge genossen.“
Mercedes-Benz-Motorsportchef Norbert Haug: „Mir wäre es lieber gewesen, der Kampf um Platz vier, fünf und sechs hätte das Renngeschehen an der Spitze bestimmt. Das war wirklich ein sehr unterhaltsamer Kampf. Trotz der zehn Kilogramm Mehrgewicht waren wir im Qualifying stark. Aber was die Konstanz betrifft, waren wir im Rennen einfach nicht gut genug. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit ist nun sehr groß, dass die Meisterschaft bereits gelaufen ist. Aber ab Platz zwei ist noch immer alles offen und wir werden auch in den verbleibenden Rennen alles geben.“

Dusseldorp zittert sich zum Vizetitel

Der Niederländer Stef Dusseldorp (Dallara F307 Volkswagen) gestaltete den Kampf um den Vizetitel im ATS Formel-3-Cup auf dem Sachsenring unfreiwillig spannend. Eigentlich sah alles nach einer sicheren Sache für ihn aus: er startete von Rang vier, während sein Konkurrent Rafael Suzuki (Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) ganz hinten stand. Doch der Van-Amersfoort-Pilot zeigte Nerven und blieb am Start stehen. Plötzlich war er es, der am Ende des Feldes lag. Doch er startete zu einer grandiosen Aufholjagd und kam als Sechster ins Ziel. Suzuki kam nicht über den zehnten Rang hinaus – der Vizetitel war Dusseldorp sicher. Auf dem Weg nach vorne hatte der 19-Jährige sogar noch seine Konkurrenten in der Rookie-Wertung Nico Monien und Markus Pommer (beide Dallara F307 Mercedes) hinter sich gelassen. Dort führt er jetzt mit 19 Punkten auf Pommer, bei noch 20 zu vergebenen Zählern.

Zwei Premieren: Motopark gewinnt, Shaaban auf dem Podium

Der Sieg im Sonntag-Rennen der Formel 3 Euro Serie auf dem 2,977 Kilometer langen Circuit de Catalunya ging an Renger van der Zande (Motopark Academy). Der Niederländer holte für das Team aus Oschersleben bereits im ersten Jahr in der Formel 3 den ersten Triumph. Hinter ihm wurden Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport) und Basil Shaaban (Prema Powerteam) abgewinkt. Shaaban ist der erste Libanese auf einem Podium der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt. Jules Bianchi beendete den 16. Saisonlauf als Fünfter und bleibt in der Gesamtwertung weiterhin vorne.
Der Kampf an der Spitze war nur auf den ersten Metern spannend. Shaaban erwischte einen guten Start und hätte fast die Führung übernommen. Doch Pole-Mann Renger van der Zande konnte den Libanesen gerade noch hinter sich halten. Danach fuhr der Niederländer, der in Barcelona das Cockpit von Atte Mustonen übernahm, einem sicheren Sieg entgegen. Shaaban war lange Zweiter und wehrte die Angriffe von Alexander Sims ab. Erst in der 24. Runde gelang es dem britischen Rookie, Shaaban auf den dritten Rang zu verdrängen.
Renger van der Zande (Motopark Academy): „Ich freue mich sehr, dass ich hier gewinnen konnte. Wir sind ein neues Team und arbeiten hart, um diese Ergebnisse einfahren zu können. Ich bin hier mein zweites Rennen für Motopark gefahren und musste mich erst einmal wieder an die Kumho-Reifen gewöhnen. Für die letzten beiden Saisonmeetings bin ich nun sehr optimistisch.“
Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport): „Ich hatte einen sehr guten Start und war Dritter hinter Basil. Er ist ein tolles Rennen gefahren. Als er dann doch einmal einen kleinen Fehler machte, konnte ich ihn überholen. Basil hat aber auch sehr gut reagiert, als ich neben ihm auftauchte.“
Basil Shaaban (Prema Powerteam): „Es ist traumhaft, hier auf dem Podest zu stehen. Gestern habe ich meine ersten Punkte in einem internationalen Rennen geholt und heute das erste Podium. Ich bin so glücklich. Der Schritt, vor Beginn der Saison zum Prema Powerteam zu wechseln, hat mir einen zusätzlichen Schub gegeben.“

Multitudinario homenaje a Joan Fernández en la XXX Pujada al Puigmajor

Hoy sábado finalizados los entrenamientos de la XXX Pujada al Puigmajor ha tenido lugar un emotivo y multitudinario homenaje al mítico piloto sabadellense Joan Fernández, que participó durante muchos años en la mítica subida mallorquina.
El acto ha tenido lugar en el pabellón del Colegio Público Es Puig que ha mostrado un lleno absoluto de aficionados y vecinos de Sóller quienes han querido demostrar su cariño al octogenario Joan Fernández.
Asimismo y contando con la presencia del Alcalde de Sóller, Sr. Josep Lluis Colom, del propietario del Restaurante Sa Teulera, Sr. Jaume Bauzá, y Albert Frau por parte de la Escudería Serra de Tramuntana se ha procedido a “bautizar” la curva de salidas con el nombre de Joan Fernández. Para ello el ex-piloto ha descubierto un monolito con una placa que reza lo siguiente:
“En el día del seu homenatge, l’Escudería Serra de Tramuntana, el poble de Sòller i l’automobilisme mallorquí sabedors de que sempre ens ha duit al seu cor, perpetúa el mite indisociable que suposa per la Pujada al Puig Major D. Joan Fernàndez García mitjançant aquesta roca, per la qual quedarà unit per sempre a la terra que tant l’admirat i estimat. Sòller, 19 de setembre de 2009”
A su vez el piloto, visiblemente emocionado, a hecho entrega a Albert Frau, presidente de la Escudería Serra de Tramuntana, de una placa agradeciendo el cariño de los mallorquines y el buen trato recibido a lo largo de todos los años en los que ha competido en nuestra isla. Asimismo hay que recalcar que el piloto de Danone no se ha cansado de posar y fotografiarse con aficionados, prensa y público en general, al mismo tiempo ha firmado infinitud de camisetas, miniaturas, libros etc.. Spaniard becomes the first F2 champion for 25 years
Andy Soucek has sealed the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship at Imola today (19 September), becoming the first F2 champion since Mike Thackwell in 1984.
The Spaniard will earn a full test with the AT&T Williams F1 team, after building an unassailable points lead over his championship rivals with three races to go in the season.
Soucek clinched the crown with an impressive third place during today’s race at Italy after he started the race down in sixth. A delighted Soucek said: “As you can imagine I feel fantastic - I still can’t believe it! I have performed well throughout the championship and I have to be very proud. The test with Williams is a real chance for me to get into Formula One. It’s going to be a new experience for me: it will be with slicks, and it will be with Williams who have had a good year. Hopefully I will have a very good test - I’m going to prepare myself physically as good as I can and if it goes well we will see what happens next year.
"It was an amazing race today - I think it was the best so far. You have to know how to win a race starting from pole, but I think you also have to know how to climb your way up starting from further back. That’s what I did today - I believe I have proved to be a worthy champion and now I hope it leads to a chance in Formula One.”
Soucek has proved himself the class of 25-strong international field, the Spaniard amassing a total of four race wins and eight podiums thus far this season. He has been in imperious form on his run to the championship, finishing in the top four for the last ten consecutive races.
Sir Frank Williams, Team Principal of the Williams F1 team, led the plaudits after Soucek’s championship victory. Sir Frank said: “I personally offer Andy my very sincere congratulations on effectively dominating a very close category of motor racing. I remember saying a year ago that Formula Two would join GP2 as the desired or accepted stream of new up and coming drivers for Formula One, and I will as a result of this season continue to believe the same.
Patrick Head, Director of Engineering at Williams, said: “Congratulations to Andy! He’s driven a fine season in the first year of Formula Two. We are looking forward to running him in our Formula One car, and I hope the whole process will help get him to achieve his ambition to compete in the Formula One World Championship.”

QUALIFYING - TARQUINI LEADS A SEAT TRIO
On his home racetrack, championship leader Gabriele Tarquini took his fourth pole of the season in a SEAT-dominated qualifying. The Spanish marque used team-work and it paid dividends as they achieved a 1-2-3 with Yvan Muller (2nd) and Rickard Rydell (3rd). Augusto Farfus of BMW Team Germany, their closest championship contender, qualified sixth. Stefano D’Aste won the Independents’ pole position.
Q1 - The session opened with the five SEAT Sport cars hitting the track in a line to benefit from slipstreaming. Activities were halted temporarily after Andrea Larini went off at the Acque Minerali and caused a red flag. On restarting the session all three Chevrolet’s entered the top ten along with Priaulx and Farfus. However, in order to ensure a strong presence in Q2, SEAT Sport made a final push at the end and with all five drivers setting their best times they laid claim to the top five positions. Hernández posted his best lap in the final seconds but it was five hundredths too slow to put him through. Müller and Zanardi were also notable names that missed out. Stefano D’Aste was the fastest Independent competitor and qualified 14th overall ahead of Porteiro (16th) and Coronel (17th). James Thompson was the lead LADA and qualified 15th after sitting seventh until half way.
Q2 - Despite making it into Q2, Alain Menu was absent due to engine problems as he pulled into his garage after Q1 - he will line up 10th on the grid. SEAT’s opening gambit was a strong one with all five drivers setting good times. Priaulx and Farfus were next out to try and slay the SEAT-shaped dragon but they only managed to demote Gené to seventh - Priaulx achieved fifth and Farfus sixth. On the next lap Farfus bettered his time but remained sixth as Huff had slipped into fourth (and consequently demoted Monteiro to fifth). Priaulx had to settle for seventh followed by Gené and Larini..

Tom Kristensen holt Pole-Position in Barcelona

Montmeló. Das Qualifying zum achten DTM-Lauf der Saison auf dem Circuit de Catalunya vor den Toren Barcelonas war ganz nach dem Geschmack der DTM-Fans. Bis kurz vor Ende wechselten die schnellsten Rundenzeiten fast im Sekundentakt. Der Däne Tom Kristensen im Audi A4 DTM fuhr in der vierten Session des Shoot-out-Qualifyings mit 1:06,825 Minuten die Bestzeit und sicherte sich so die Pole-Position. „Das Auto wurde heute immer besser, und mein Ingenieur hat genau das richtige Set-up gefunden. Es hat einfach alles bestens geklappt. Als Fahrer konzentriert man sich immer darauf, wie das Auto agiert und versucht, dies dann zu optimieren. Ich freue mich sehr über die Pole-Position“, sagte der 42-Jährige, der nach dieser Saison seine DTM-Karriere beenden wird. Für den Le-Mans-Rekordsieger war es bereits seine neunte Pole-Position in der populärsten internationalen Tourenwagenserie. Mit insgesamt 13 Punkten in der Gesamtwertung kann Kristensen allerdings nicht mehr in den Titelkampf eingreifen.
Mit einem Rückstand von 0,064 Sekunden sicherte sich der Schotte Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz) vor dem Rosenheimer Martin Tomczyk (Audi) den zweiten Startplatz. „Das war ein echtes Kopf-an-Kopf-Qualifying. In der finalen Session habe ich einen kleinen Fehler gemacht, aber im Großen und Ganzen bin ich mit meiner Leistung sehr zufrieden. Wir hatten eine gute Pace und können nun optimistisch für das Rennen sein“, sagte Di Resta, der sich die beste Ausgangslage im Rennen für den Titelkampf gesichert hat. Die drei in der Gesamtwertung vor ihm liegenden Piloten qualifizierten sich schlechter. Der Brite Gary Paffett, Dritter im Titelkampf, startet hinter dem Kanadier Bruno Spengler (beide Mercedes-Benz) als Fünfter. Direkt dahinter steht der amtierende Champion und Führende des Gesamtklassements, Timo Scheider (Audi) aus Lahnstein. Von Rang sieben aus wird der Schwede Mattias Ekström als Zweitplatzierter der Fahrerwertung im Audi um wichtige Punkte kämpfen. Bester Pilot eines Fahrzeugs des Jahrgangs 2008 wurde Ekströms Markenkollege, der Franzose Alexandre Prémat, der sich als Achter qualifizierte.
Da Spengler in der Auslaufrunde der vierten und finalen Session mit seinem Fahrzeug liegen blieb, wird der Vorfall von den Sportkommissaren untersucht.
Das Rennen am Sonntag ist über 59 Runden und insgesamt 175,643 Kilometer angesetzt. Start ist um 14:00 Uhr (MESZ). Die ARD überträgt live ab 13:45 Uhr.
