Fifteen days after the inaugural event fought out on the Ledenon circuit, the drivers of the French F4 Championship met again for the Pau Grand Prix, ready to tear down the streets of the Béarnaise city. Simon Gachet, the "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" 2011, created a stir when he won second place right from the very start of the qualifiers in Ledenon and finished second in race 2 after leading the race for a great part of it. Emerging from rugby, he discovered motorsport last year, without even going through the karting stage, unlike his young friends, Simon has astonished everyone!

Arriving in Pau with great ambitions, Simon Gachet stepped up on the second step of the podium twice for both races fought out on the urban circuit of the city. The "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" 2011 was the driver who won the most points during this "risky" weekend, boosting his rise in the general provisional ranking of the French F4 Championship where he now stands in 3rd place.

After some studious free practice, Simon Gachet completed some great qualifiers finishing with 4th and 3rd places on the starting grid, advantageous positions in a race where it’s almost impossible to overtake!

Off to a good start in race 1 which saw him finish the first lap in 4th place, the "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" would benefit from a penalty attributed to his leading opponents to finish in second place. Same again for the second race where he would also finish in second place after a brilliant and consistent race, the "Gachet" rocket was launched:

"I came to Pau with the objective of picking up some big championship points on a very technical and dangerous circuit. Objective achieved since I did win the most. For that I knew it was vital to succeed in the qualifiers to get a start on the two front lines, after that it was relatively easy because I only had to control the situation according to events on the track, I think I had a successful weekend. A big thank you to EUROFORMULA and RALF TECH."

There was satisfaction all around at EUROFORMULA, as the director, Laurent Fradon, tells us: "He was the driver who brought in the most points from this weekend and there’s no doubt that it will weigh heavily in the balance when the tally is counted for the championship! Simon knew how to manage the pressure perfectly while all the time being fast and consistent, he is among the lead players of this championship and he’s fast becoming one of the favourites for the title. The next step is victory but not at any price, Simon must always keep in mind that it is the intermediate points that often determine the champion!"

The next challenge in the French F4 Championship will take place on June 23 and 24 on the Val de Vienne circuit where Simon Gachet has always felt at home. We can now count on the "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" 2011, and thoughts of victory are now among the possibilities!

Eurointernational kommt mit Tom Blomqvist

Wieder dabei: Tom Blomqvist

Tom Blomqvist kehrt in den ATS Formel-3-Cup zurück. Der Sohn des schwedischen Rallye-Weltmeisters Stig Blomqvist wird im Team Eurointernational einen Dallara F311 mit Volkswagen Power Engine pilotieren. Blomqvist wird zunächst die kommenden sechs Rennen bestreiten. Der Brite fuhr bereits in der vergangenen Saison im ATS Formel-3-Cup, damals im Team Performance Racing
Am Sachsenring darf man sich auf einen prominenten Neuzugang im ATS Formel-3-Cup freuen. Tom Blomqvist wird das Teamdebüt von Eurointernational in Deutschlands schnellster Formel-Rennserie unterstützen. Vorher steht noch ein ausgiebiger Test an. „Wir werden uns unter anderem am 30. Mai in Varano auf das Debüt im ATS Formel-3-Cup vorbereiten. Ich bin sehr froh, dass wir mit Tom einen erfahrenen und auch nachweislich schnellen Mann im Auto haben. Vielleicht können wir schon auf Anhieb im ATS Formel-3-Cup glänzen“, so Teamchef Antonio Ferrari.
Bei Eurointernational scheinen sich die Söhne von Rallye-Weltmeistern sehr wohl zu fühlen. 2010 holte das Team aus Italien mit Carlos Sainz jr. den Rookie-Titel in der europäischen Formel BMW. Die Geschichte des Teams reicht bis 1989 zurück, als man in der CART Serie in den USA beispielsweise auch mit Christian Danner unterwegs war.
Für Tom Blomqvist ist der ATS Formel-3-Cup nichts Neues. Der 19-Jährige musste die Saison im vergangenen Jahr jedoch vorzeitig beenden, nachdem er auf dem Lausitzring einen Unfall erlitten hatte. Damals schlug er im Startgetümmel rückwärts in die Boxenmauer ein und zog sich eine Rückenverletzung zu. Bis dahin hatte Blomqvist vier Podestplätze sowie jeweils zwei Pole-Positions und schnellste Runden eingefahren. In Zolder feierte der sympathische Brite seinen ersten Formel-3-Sieg.
„Ich freue mich schon sehr auf den Sachsenring. Zum einen treffe ich viele alte Bekannte wieder und zum anderen reizt mich die tolle Strecke. Im vergangenen Jahr war ich im ATS Formel-3-Cup gut unterwegs, bis der blöde Unfall auf dem Lausitzring passierte“, so Blomqvist. Seit 2003 betreibt der Brite Kartsport, 2009 holte er den dritten Platz in der schwedischen Formel Renault, 2010 wurde er Meister der britischen Formel Renault, ehe er 2011 in den ATS Formel-3-Cup einstieg.
„Tom Blomqvist war schon lange mein Wunschpilot für die Formel 3“, verrät Teamchef Antonio Ferrari, „ich denke immer positiv und deshalb glaube ich auch, dass wir schon am Sachsenring gut aussehen werden.“

Mid way point in WTCC season approaches

This weekend’s FIA World Touring Car Championship event in Austria will mark the mid-way point in the 2012 season and with five rounds under their belt so far Team Aon drivers Tom Chilton and James Nash have already scored points in their debut season. As well as adding to their points tally, both drivers are helping Team Aon in the development of the Global Ford Focus as the team competes on the world stage for the first time. Last time out in Hungary both drivers endured a difficult weekend and will be hoping that the Salzburgring brings better fortunes as they continue their steep 2012 learning curve.

The previous round in Hungary was a difficult showing for Team Aon; after sustaining heavy damage during the previous round in Slovakia Nash’s car needed an extensive rebuild in-between the back-to-back rounds. However despite once again making it through to the second part of qualifying with a fully rebuilt car, further bad luck eliminated Nash out of the second race of the weekend. Chilton fared no better as he struggled with a lack of grip for the majority of the weekend.

The sixth round of the season in Austria will be the penultimate race of the European season and sees Chilton and Nash battle it out around the Salzburgring – a track neither driver has previously competed around before.

Despite the circuit being tightly packed in, it is the long straights which generally produce the most exciting racing to watch, all the while providing the drivers with the best overtaking opportunities of the race.

Speaking ahead of the weekend Tom Chilton said, ‘Again it’s a track that I’ve never driven around so that’s quite a challenge, but I think there’s quite a few drivers up and down the field who also have never driven the track before so it does even the playing field a little – a bit like Slovakia.

‘We have a few new parts coming to the car for this weekend which I’m feeling good about and, as always, our aim is to qualify within the top 12 and hopefully have a better weekend than we did in Hungary.’

After difficult back-to-back races in Slovakia and Hungary James Nash added, ‘Hungary was a challenge setup wise compared to Slovakia so it will be interesting to see how the car feels in Austria. We’re working hard to understand why the car feels so different from track to track and I’m hoping Austria will help unlock some clues. It’s a new circuit again for us, so it’s certainly going to be interesting.”

Este domingo 13 de mayo se ha celebrado en el Circuito Mallorca Renn Arena la prueba inaugural de la "Cuna de Campeones Bankia 2012", un certamen nacional destinado a la promoción del motociclismo de velocidad, del que han salido varios pilotos que están en estos momentos compitiendo en el Mundial de MotoGP.
La prueba ha sido organizada por el MC Moto Plus Balear, que se ha iniciado en una prueba de carácter nacional con gran éxito. Además de las tres categorías de la "Cuna de Campeones", Minimotos, MiniGP 110 y MiniGP 140, también han competido las categorías de Minimotard Senior (Campeonato de Baleares), Minimotos R-9 y Supermoto, estas dos últimas no puntuables para el certamen balear, reuniendo un total de 76 pilotos.
Se han disputado dos mangas de cada categoría, que han hecho las delicias del numeroso público que se ha congregado en el circuito llucmajorer, a pesar de las elevadas temperaturas, más propias del Verano.

La Cuna de Campeones Bankia 2012 ha celebrado este fin de semana en Mallorca su primera cita de 2012 con victorias para Filip Salac y Kiko Aguilera en MiniGP 110, Sergio Muñoz y Samuel di Sora en MiniGP 140 y doblete de Izan Guevara en Minimotos.
La igualdad ha sido la tónica de esta ronda inaugural en la que los jóvenes pilotos de la escuela del Circuit han cerrado la primera de las nueve citas del campeonato.
La categoría reina de la Cuna de Campeones Bankia es la MiniGP 140 donde el alicantino Sergio Muñoz partía con la ventaja de la Pole Position y se llevaba la primera carrera con Samuel di Sora disputando la victoria hasta el último momento, tercero ha terminado el granadino Alejandro Ruiz, que pese a marcar la vuelta rápida en la segunda manga se tuvo que volver a conformar con la tercera plaza por detrás de los alicantinos Di Sora que consiguió la victoria y el liderato y Muñoz.
Entre los chicos de MiniGP 110 la igualdad ha sido máxima con el checo Filip Salac en la pole que ha dominado la primera manga por delante del madrileño Manuel González y del local Kiko Aguiler, que se metió a los suyos en el bolsillo con una segunda carrera espectacular en grupo en la que ha sido el más listo al final por delante de Salac y de González.
El único doblete del día ha sido para el pequeño piloto local Izan Guevara que se ha impuesto desde la pole en las dos carreras. En ambas la composición del podio se ha repetido con Guevara dominando sobre el valenciano Julio Herráez y el también mallorquín Marcos Ruda.

Nada menos que 24 pilotos han participado en esta categoría, en las que Joan Mir se ha impuesto de forma contundente. Con dos victorias, ha sumado 50 puntos más a su casillero particular, colocándose lider en solitario en la clasificación provisional.
Enrique Arjona (2º) y Bernat Crespí (3º) has flanqueado a Joan Mir en el podio, dándose la circunstacia que los tres han repetido la misma posición en ambas carreras.
Fernando Font ha sido cuarto, mientras que Biel Daviu, Carlos San Juan y Rene Granpierre mantenían una bonita lucha por las siguientes posiciones, quedando en este orden. David Villena, Víctor José Velez y Lázaro Suárez completaban el top-ten.

Supermoto.
Santiago Simó y Ángel Poyatos ganaban la primera y la segunda manga respectivamente, pero la victoria final era para Bruno Fernández, que subía al podio acompañado por Miguel Fiol y por Arturo González. En la primera carrera, tras el adelantamiento de Simó a Poyatos, que habían sido los grandes dominadores, Poyatos se iba al suelo, teniendo que tomar el camino a los boxes, mientras que en la segunda carrera, un fallo mecánico en la moto de Simó le impedía sumar puntos, ganando la manga Poyatos de forma incontestable. De esta manera, los ganadores de las dos carreras se veían desplazados a la cuarta y a la quinta plaza. Guillermo Mendez era sexto, José Carlos Gil de Sola séptimo, Fernando Hernández octavo y Edgar Pons noeveno.
La entrega de premios contó con la presencia del Sr. Ramonell, Director d’Esports del Consell de Mallorca, además de representantes de Bankia, Circuito Mallorca Renn Arena y de Outlet Moto Mallorca.

MNL: "Karting y Motociclismo"

La Escudería Mallorca New Limit participó este domingo 13 de mayo en dos competiciones, en motociclismo en una prueba de velocidad celebrada en el Circuito Mallorca Renn Arena, con sus pilotos Ángel Poyatos y Santiago Simó, y en karting en la tercera prueba del Campeonato de Baleares celebrada en el Circuito de Can Picafort con su piloto Alejandro Lantes.
Motociclismo
Ángel Poyatos y Santiago Simó fueron los claros dominadores de la categoría Supermoto, repartiéndose las victorias en las dos mangas disputadas.
La primera carrera fue para Simó, tras un espectacular duelo con Poyatos. Santiago se puso lider desde el principio, una posición que mantuvo durante casi toda la carrera. En el último tercio de la misma fue superado por Ángel y aunque parecía que las posiciones se mantendrían, Santiago no se conformó y le devolvió el adelantamiento, tocándose y provocando la caída de Ángel, teniendo que abandonar.
Se preveía un duelo sin tregua para la segunda carrera entre Simó y Poyatos, ya que no había órdenes de equipo, pero la mala suerte se cebó esta vez en Santiago, al salirse el cable del embrague a su moto en la misma parrilla de salida. Tras los infructuosos intentos de Luis Borrás, director de la Escudería MNL, para solucionar el problema, tuvieron que apartarse para que el resto de pilotos tomaran la salida. Simó se reincorporó varias vueltas más tarde, pero al acabar la carrera a seis vueltas del ganador, no obtuvo ni un sólo punto.
Sin su principal rival, Ángel Poyatos dominó de principio a fin, deleitando al numeroso público con sus derrapajes y sus "caballitos".
Este dominio de los pilotos de la Escudería MNL no se vio reflejado en la clasificación final, clasificándose en la cuarta y quinta plaza respectivamente.

Por su parte, Alejandro Lantes participaba en la tercera prueba del Campeonato de Baleares de Karting, que se celebraba en el Circuito de Can Picafort.
Al pasar las verificaciones del viernes, los comisarios técnicos indicaron al piloto que las especificaciones del motor no eran correctas, ya que se basaban en los reglamentos del 2011. Este error, ajeno a la Escudería MNL, ya que habían sido los organizadores los que se habían equivocado al entregar los reglamentos técnicos de la pasada temporada, obligaron a cambiar el motor con el que se había trabajado hasta ahora, teniendo que montar uno menos elaborado y, por lo tanto, menos competitivo.
Aún así, a pesar de este hándicap, Lantes conseguía acabar ambas mangas en la segunda posición, sumando 44 valiosos puntos en su casillero particular, que lo sitúan en la tercera posición del Campeonato de Baleares a 4 puntos del segundo clasificado.

Pau-Neuling Marciello dominert den Grand Prix de Pau

Nach seinem Sieg am Samstag konnte der Italiener Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) auch das Hauptrennen am Sonntag, den eigentlichen Grand Prix de Pau, für sich entscheiden und ist damit Nachfolger des Deutschen Marco Wittmann. Auf dem 2,76 Kilometer langen Stadtkurs im südfranzösischen Pau lieferte der 17-jährige Pilot der Formel 3 Euro Serie eine überzeugende Vorstellung ab und gewann mit einem Vorsprung von 13,129 Sekunden auf Carlos Sainz (Carlin). Damit belegten zwei Euro-Serie-Fahrer die ersten beiden Positionen. Hinter Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin) wurde Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) als drittbester Starter der Formel 3 Euro Serie abgewinkt.
Raffaele Marciello nutzte den Vorteil der Pole-Position und übernahm von Beginn an die Führung. Er setzte sich sofort vom Feld ab, fuhr teilweise eine Sekunde pro Runde schneller als seine Verfolger. Hinter Marciello umrundete Carlos Sainz den schwierigen und engen Kurs in den Ausläufern der Pyrenäen auf Rang zwei. Daniel Juncadella, der zwei Positionen hinter seinem Landsmann Sainz klassiert war, machte über die gesamte Renndistanz Druck auf seinen Vordermann Jaafar, der keinen Fehler machte und dem Spanier so keine Chance für einen Angriff bot.
Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam): „Es ist fantastisch. Mein Auto war perfekt, es war ein tolles Rennen und ich mag die Strecke in Pau sehr. Es ist klasse, nun in der Liste der Pau-Sieger zu stehen, denn es ist eines der wichtigsten Formel-3-Rennen weltweit. Nachdem ich nach fünf Runden schon einen guten Vorsprung hatte, war ich relativ entspannt.“
Carlos Sainz (Carlin): „Ich denke, dass der Abstand zu Raffaele etwas zu groß war. Wir hatten einige Probleme mit dem Auto, die Balance passte einfach nicht. Aber wir werden daraus lernen und es beim nächsten Mal besser machen. Ansonsten sollten wir das Positive aus diesem Rennen mitnehmen und darauf aufbauen.“
Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam): „Obwohl ich schneller war als mein Vordermann Jazeman Jaafar, kam ich nicht an ihm vorbei, denn er hat keinen Fehler gemacht. Besonders nach meinem Ausfall gestern wollte ich auch nicht zu viel riskieren, sondern lieber die Punkte mitnehmen.“
