BMW Sauber F1 Team - Großer Preis von Italien - Qualifikation
Wetter: Regen, 19-21° Luft, 18°C Asphalt
Monza (IT). Das komplette Qualifying zum Großen Preis von Italien auf dem Respekt einflößenden Hochgeschwindigkeitskurs von Monza fand auf nasser Strecke statt, was zu einer exotischen Startaufstellung führte. Robert Kubica verpasste den Sprung ins Top-Ten-Qualifying um 21 Tausendstelsekunden und wurde Elfter. Nick Heidfeld schaffte es in die turbulente Schlussphase, haderte dann aber mit der Reifenhaftung und belegte Platz zehn.

„Das Qualifying lief unter diesen schwierigen Bedingungen zunächst ziemlich gut für mich. Aber nachdem ich im Top-Ten-Qualifying war, hatte ich mir mehr davon versprochen. Die letzten Runden waren enttäuschend. Anstatt mehr hatte ich immer weniger Grip. Wir müssen jetzt analysieren, woran das lag.“

„Wir hatten heute ein wenig Pech, denn der Abstand zu Position zehn und damit zum dritten Qualifying war denkbar knapp. Wir haben zu Beginn der zweiten Session einen neuen Satz Reifen aufgezogen. Unser Plan war es, keinen Boxenstopp zu machen. Es dauert in der Regel zwei bis drei Runden, um die neuen Reifen zum Arbeiten zu bringen. Die Strecke trocknete nach den ersten Runden ab, jedoch begann es dann stark zu regnen. Deshalb war ich nicht in der Lage, meine Rundenzeit weiter zu verbessern. Herzlichen Glückwunsch an Torro Rosso und Sebastian Vettel zur ersten Pole Position!“

„Das war heute das turbulenteste Qualifying, an das ich mich erinnern kann. Unter diesen schwierigen Wetterbedingungen war es ein Lotteriespiel. Gratulation an Sebastian Vettel und Toro Rosso, die unter diesen Umständen eine hervorragende Leistung gezeigt haben. Schaut man auf das Klassement, dann finden sich einige Favoriten ungewohnt weit hinten wieder. Und auch wir sind natürlich mit den Startpositionen zehn und elf nicht zufrieden. Es kam heute darauf an, zum richtigen Zeitpunkt mit warmen Reifen eine freie Runde zu erwischen. Das hat bei uns nicht geklappt.“

„Nach unserer starken Vorstellung gestern im Trockenen sind wir von den Startpositionen zehn und elf natürlich enttäuscht. Robert hat den Sprung ins dritte Qualifying nicht geschafft, weil es gegen Ende des zweiten Teils stärker regnete. Die Startaufstellung sieht ziemlich anders aus als üblich, also können wir morgen mit einem spannenden Rennen rechnen. Natürlich muss man nun abwarten, wer auf welche Strategie gesetzt hat.“

Italian Grand Prix, Saturday
Torrential rain storms made for difficult conditions in today’s qualifying session as Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet qualified in 8th and 17th places respectively for tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

The heavy rain that has dominated the weekend returned in time for qualifying, forcing Fernando and Nelson to begin the session on extreme wet tyres. Fernando progressed through to Q2, while Nelson qualified in 17th.
Conditions continued to deteriorate for the second part of qualifying with the rain becoming even heavier. Fernando continued to show well in the wet as he progressed to the top ten shootout and secured 8th spot on the grid.
With further wet weather predicted for tomorrow, the team looks forward to building on today’s performance in what promises to be exciting race.

“I am pretty satisfied today because, even if it had been dry, I don’t think that our situation would have been any easier. The track conditions were very difficult and we were able to reach Q3, which has given us a good starting position for tomorrow. Of course, the race will be tough and there are still lots of unknowns: the weather tomorrow could come and change things once again.”

“I’m disappointed with my qualifying session today. Since the start of the weekend, we haven’t really been on the pace and I was expecting a difficult session. The weather this afternoon didn’t help. It’s a shame and I know that tomorrow we will have to fight hard in what looks certain to be another tricky race.”

“It was hard work out there today for the teams and the drivers. It was necessary to make decisions that needed to be changed rapidly because of the weather conditions. At the end of a session like that we are thankful to have no damaged cars. Fernando’s grid position is probably as good as we would have hoped for in the dry and tomorrow’s race will once again be about handling the changing weather conditions.”

“A qualifying session is always a delicate exercise, even more so when it’s wet. In these conditions, you have to simply remain on track, avoid incidents, deal with the traffic, and cope with the poor visibility. Fernando made it through to Q3, which bodes well for tomorrow, even if the uncertain weather and the unknown fuel loads make for a very unpredictable race.”

Mallorca New Limit

En Valencia, los entrenamientos de hoy sábado, han sido terreno del joven
mallorquín del equipo Mallorca New Limit, ya que Enric Ferrer ha marcado el
mejor crono en la categoría 600 series y saldrá primero en la importante
carrera de mañana domingo, donde espera poder proclamarse vencedor del
Campeonato Mediterráneo de Velocidad.
Aunque se esperaba un tiempo lluvioso para este fin de semana en Valencia,
parece que hasta la climatología se ha puesto a las ordenes del Mallorca New
Limit y no han aparecido las temidas nubes que podrían haber complicado la
situación a Enric.
Ferrer está más animado que nunca por ver tan cerca la posibilidad de
conseguir el Campeonato mañana domingo, le bastaría con mantener la ventaja
que tiene sobre el segundo clasificado que ha finalizado los entrenamientos
cronometrados hoy en la tercera posición.
Mañana domingo a las 12:40 dará comienzo la carrera para el piloto
mallorquín y todos esperamos que cruce la meta en la misma posición desde la
que sale y traiga hacia la isla el primer Campeonato Mediterráneo de
Velocidad.

Bridgestone Motorsport’s Saturday Update

Sebastian Vettel has achieved his and the Scuderia Toro Rosso’s first ever pole position, using Bridgestone’s extreme wet tyre to set a time of 1min 37.555secs at a treacherously wet Monza race circuit for the Italian Grand Prix. Vettel showed his mettle in the difficult conditions and was over seven hundredths of a second faster than the second fastest driver, Heikki Kovalainen (Vodafone McLaren Mercedes). Mark Webber (Red Bull Racing) was the third fastest driver whilst Sebastien Bourdais (Scuderia Toro Rosso) qualified in fourth. Nico Rosberg (AT&T Williams) went fifth fastest whilst Felipe Massa (Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro) was the top qualifier of the leading three drivers’ championship contenders with the sixth fastest time. Jarno Trulli (Panasonic Toyota Racing) and Fernando Alonso (ING Renault F1 Team) qualified on the fourth row, whilst Timo Glock (Panasonic Toyota Racing) and Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber F1 Team) were the final drivers to qualify in the top ten. Current drivers’ championship leader Lewis Hamilton (Vodafone McLaren Mercedes) qualified in fifteenth position, and was the only driver to use the wet tyre using qualifying. Reigning champion Kimi Raikkonen (Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro) is one place ahead of Hamilton on the grid for tomorrow’s race. Vettel is now the youngest driver to achieve a Formula One pole position. In the morning practice session Timo Glock topped the times with a 1min 35.464secs lap, set on the extreme wet tyre. Glock was over six tenths faster than Vettel, with Rosberg the third quickest. Today’s fastest lap time, a 1min 35.214secs, was set by Kovalainen using the extreme wet tyre in Q1. Jun Matsuzaki – Chief Engineer, Bridgestone Motorsport, said: “Today was all about reading the weather conditions and using the correct tyre at the correct moment, when the track was at its best. Sebastian Vettel and Toro Rosso did a fantastic job to achieve their first pole position at the team’s home Grand Prix. There were many notable performances today and our extreme wet tyres worked well in the difficult conditions. It is unusual to have such a wet event in Italy and we will have to see what the weather does tomorrow for the race. "Das war eine wahnsinnige Sitzung. Es war wirklich schwierig, das
Auto zu fahren, und die Sicht war ausgesprochen schlecht. An einem
Punkt im Q2 wurde Sebastian Vettel vor mir auf der Geraden plötzlich
langsamer. Bei diesen Bedingungen kann man von Glück sagen, dass
daraus kein Unfall geworden ist, es war ein gefährlicher Moment.
Trotzdem, wir auf unserer Seite haben das Qualifying gut hinbekommen,
also sind wir zufrieden. Es war eine gute Vorbereitung für morgen
und wir werden im Rennen unser Bestes geben. Hier in Monza herrscht
immer eine besondere Atmosphäre, weil hier so viele Motorsport-
Enthusiasten versammelt sind. Wir werden jetzt alles daran setzen,
vor meinen Fans in der Heimat ein gutes Resultat zu holen.
