NEW MANUFACTURER PROTON JOINS INTERCONTINENTAL RALLY CHALLENGE
Eurosport Events, the promoter of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, is delighted to announce that Proton will join the IRC in 2009 - following the recent competition debut of its new Satria Neo Super 2000 car. The Malaysian manufacturer becomes the seventh constructor to compete in the IRC series so far.
Proton joins Abarth, Honda, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Skoda and Volkswagen amongst the ranks of the IRC competitors, who go head-to-head on spectacular events this year, taking in both asphalt and gravel rallies. The IRC series is designed not only to showcase these unique events through the use of innovative television coverage, but also to provide manufacturers with a good promotional platform for customer competition business.
Since producing its first car in 1985 Proton has risen through the ranks of automotive manufacturing and has now exported cars to the UK, Western Europe, The Middle East, China, South East Asia, and Australasia. The company also has a tradition of motorsport, having won the Production Car World Rally Championship title in 2002 with the Proton PERT. Proton has also been the owner of Group Lotus since 1997: an iconic name from the past in motor racing.
In line with many other manufacturers Proton has now moved on to embrace the Super 2000 formula. Since making its competition debut at the end of last year, the Proton Satria Neo S2000 has marked itself out as a car to watch.
Marcello Lotti, the IRC’s General Manager, commented: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome Proton into the IRC family, which goes from strength to strength. The new Satria Neo S2000 has already attracted a lot of praise in its short career to date. I have no doubt that Proton will quickly find success with competitive rally customers on IRC events, as well as on national and regional championships that are based on S2000 technical regulations."
Proton Managing Director, Datuk Syed Zainal, added "The IRC provides the ideal format for manufacturers to showcase their products around the world. We are very excited to register for the IRC this year, alongside many of the leading manufacturers in motorsport. Although we are still developing the Proton, the IRC will provide the perfect opportunity to gauge the competitiveness of the car, and ultimately to take the project forward."
The IRC is an intercontinental rally series authorised by the FIA, which got underway at the start of this year with the Monte Carlo Rally: the oldest and prestigious event in the history of the sport.
The second round of the series took place last week in Brazil, at the Rally Internacional de Curitiba.

Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport betritt Neuland. 
Auf der Strecke von Losail in Qatar dürfte es für das Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport sehr viel schwieriger als beim Auftakt im australischen Phillip Island werden, eine weitere Top Ten Platzierung zu erreichen. Dort profitierte das Team von einem unmittelbar vorangegangenen Test, wohingegen man die Strecke in Doha erstmals beim freien Training am Donnerstagmorgen kennenlernen wird. Der Rundkurs in Qatar ist nur eine von vieIen Rennstrecken im diesjährigen Rennkalender, bei denen das Team – im Gegensatz zu den meisten Mitbewerbern - auf keinerlei Daten und Informationen zurückgreifen kann.. Die beiden ersten Trainingssitzungen werden für Troy Corser, Ruben Xaus und das Team daher extrem wichtig sein, wenngleich die große Erfahrung der beiden Piloten für die Techniker sicherlich hilfreich sein wird, um für die beiden Rennen gute Voraussetzungen zu schaffen.

Der achte Platz auf Phillip Island war fantastisch und hat uns allen viel Auftrieb für die Saison gegeben. Doch jetzt geht es auf eine Strecke, für die wir keinerlei Daten haben, und das dürfte sich nachteilig auswirken. Das Rennwochenende auf Phillip Island hat uns gewissermaßen die Augen geöffnet, denn es geschahen an diesen drei Tagen Dinge, wie sie bei den Tests zuvor nie auftraten, und das liefert natürlich wertvolle Erfahrungen. Darauf müssen wir jetzt aufbauen, und alle im Team sind fest entschlossen und arbeiten hart daran, dieses Projekt so schnell wie möglich voran zu bringen. Qatar wird für uns ein weiterer interessanter Prüfstein werden, bei dem wir wieder 100 Prozent geben werden und letztlich schauen, was passiert.

Phillip Island hat meiner Ansicht nach gezeigt, dass wir gut dabei sind – und das früher als gedacht. Wenn ich im ersten Rennen nicht zwei oder drei Kollisionen gehabt hätte, wäre ich ganz sicher weiter vorne und möglicherweise sogar in den Top ten gelandet. Aber wenigstens bin ich nicht gestürzt. Ich freue mich über Troys großartiges Ergebnis im ersten Lauf sowie darüber, dass wir bei beiden Rennen ins Ziel gekommen sind. Jetzt am Wochenende in Qatar wird es deutlich schwieriger, da wir das erste Mal dort sind und über keinerlei Aufzeichnungen verfügen. Wir müssen von Anfang bis Ende hundert Prozent geben, und dann ist mit diesem großartigen Team wieder vieles möglich.

Es war toll, unser Abenteuer auf Phillip Island endlich begonnen und dann gleich ein so gutes Ergebnis erzielt zu haben. Hätten wir die Probleme in der Superpole nicht gehabt, wer weiß, wo wir gelandet wären? Pedro Font en el Campeonato de España de Rallyes de Tierra

El piloto balear afronta con ilusiones renovadas su segunda temporada en el CERT
PEDRO FONT PREPARADO PARA LA PRIMERA CITA DEL CAMPEONATO

Está costando verdadero esfuerzo completar el presupuesto para correr el Campeonato
de España de Rallyes de Tierra, no obstante el mallorquín Pedro Font ya tiene
cerradas las tres primeras carreras del certamen.
Para esta temporada que está a punto de empezar el equipo isleño cuenta con
algunas novedades. En primer lugar Pedro Font contará con los servicios del
experimentado copiloto catalán Oriol Julià, quien aportará sus conocimientos para
mejorar y evolucionar el pilotaje del balear. Otra de las novedades es la incorporación
del preparador Mavisa Sport cuyo equipo humano se encargará del mantenimiento
y asistencia del Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX en cada una de las siete pruebas que hay
previstas para este año.
El piloto manacorí hizo una jornada de tests la semana pasada con su nuevo equipo
en un tramo cerrado en las inmediaciones de Bassella (Lleida). La idea era preparar
la primera carrera de esta temporada y las conclusiones fueron bastante positivas,
a pesar que tuvo que probar el coche sobre un piso muy resbaladizo y algo enfangado
debido a la lluvia que estuvo cayendo durante gran parte de la jornada.
La primera cita del campeonato 2009 será este fin de semana en la ciudad andaluza
de Palma del Río (Córdoba). Allí les espera a todos los participantes un trazado muy
rápido y técnico con buen piso y compuesto por diez especiales que sumarán un
total de noventa y cuatro kilómetros cronometrados.
La prueba dará inicio el viernes a las 20:30 horas con la ya tradicional ceremonia
de salida. Aunque el verdadero rallye comenzará el sábado a las 9:00 de la mañana
y terminará por la tarde sobre las 17:30 horas tras haber completado un total de diez
tramos, uno de ellos será una superespecial que se recorrerá en dos ocasiones y
estará ubicada en el Polígono Industrial de Palma del Río.
Los comentarios de Pedro Font antes de tomar el avión rumbo a Sevilla eran los
siguientes:
"Hasta finales de la semana pasada no supe a ciencia cierta si correría el campeonato
o no, al faltarme gran parte del presupuesto. Y es que la cosa esta bastante mal.
Pero finalmente estaremos un año más en este competido certamen, a pesar de
que a fecha de hoy no hemos reunido todo el presupuesto". El manacorí añadía:
"Esta temporada quiero agradecer más que nunca el apoyo de mis patrocinadores
y espero y deseo darles muchas alegrías, ya que sin ellos, esta aventura no habría
sido posible."

V. RALLY CLASICO ISLA MALLORCA 18.-21. Marzo 2009

El Rally Cásico Isla Mallorca ya está preparado para celebrar su quinta edición, con importantes cambios y 
novedades que convertirán este rally en un evento de máxima categoría tanto a nivel deportivo como turístico.
Con una inscripción record de 73 equipos participantes, este año promete ser muy emocionante y divertido con pilotos procedentes de diferentes puntos de Europa como cada año, participantes de Inglaterra, Francia, Portugal, Alemania y España, competirán en algunos de los mejores tramos de rally del calendario internacional.
Una de las novedades más importantes será la ceremonia de salida que este año se realizará el miércoles día 18 a partir de las 20:00 h. en la plaza del Parc de Ses Estacions junto a la plaza de España, donde quedarán expuestos los coches desde las 18:00 h., en pleno centro de la ciudad y que contará por primera vez con un gran pódium de salida y el carismático Bob Gourlay como presentador para dar salida a los coches participantes.
Este año el primer tramo será tambien una gran novedad, ya que tras la salida desde el parc de Ses Estacions, el miercoles día 18, los participantes se dirigirán a realizar el Coll de Sa Creu como tramo nocturno.
La familia de colaboradores del rally se ha visto aumentada este año con el patrocinador CCF (Carbon Credited Farming) que trabaja en la producción de energía renovable como el aceite que se utiliza para fabricar el biodiesel, actualmente CCF posee 34 millones de árboles de aceite en 10 países de todo el mundo.
También hemos estrenado nueva página web, donde se pueden encontrar fácilmente todos los datos de interés de este rally y de sus ediciones anteriores. Los horarios, tramos, planos además de todos los videos y fotos de los participantes.
