1. Rallysprint Costa de Calviá.

Un total de 37 vehículos se daban cita en el recinto El Molino de Santa Ponça para tomar parte en el Rallysprint Costa de Calviá, organizado por la Peña Slick Quemado bajo el patrocinio del Ayuntamiento de Calviá. De ellos no se presentaban Sebastián Galmés, Fernando Dameto y Marcos Márquez. El calor veraniego nos dio una tregua y fueron muchos los aficionados que se acercaron al Coll de Sa Creu para ver pasar a los equipos participantes.

La prueba estuvo marcada por su dureza que hizo abandonar a un total de once equipos, destacando a los favoritos Lorenzo Andreu (Peugeot 306) en el tercer tramo por avería, o José Martorell (Citroen Saxo) que sufría una ligera salida de carretera en la segunda pasada.. Por su parte Dani Lozano perdía tres minutos en el segundo tramo al tener problemas con el cable del acelerador. Puestas así las cosas la carrera fue un mano a mano entre los pilotos de la Escudería Mallorca Competició, Julián Gómez y Carlos Pérez, ambos con Mitsubishi Evo 6. Al final se imponía el primero de ellos con 23 segundos de ventaja sobre Carlos Pérez. A un minuto y medio se clasificaba, en tercera posición, David García que estuvo a la espera del posible error de los pilotos de cabeza.

Antonio Amer se aprovechaba de la debacle de los pilotos favoritos para ascender hasta la cuarta plaza de la general y superar a un Dani Lozano que solo podía ser quinto a pesar de marcar algunos scratch tras su incidente en el segundo tramo. Jaime Martorell demostró que sigue estando en forma y acababa sexto a los mandos del Citroen Saxo. Arnau Bisquerra se anotaba el grupo N y era séptimo de la general en su mejor resultado con el Mitsubishi Evo 7, mientras que José Lavigne se situaba a continuación y se anotaba el grupo RI, seguido de Ivan Colóm y José Garrido, ambos con Peugeot 205. En esta segunda sección debían abandonar por avería Jaime Riera, Sión Verger o José Manuel Álvarez.

En cuanto a la regularidad, que contó con seis participantes, la victoria iba a manos de Fullana-Fullana (Alfa Romeo Giulia), siendo segundos Gene-Haverland (MG B) y terceros Castañer-Caballero (Alfa Romeo GTV), que superaron por poca diferencia al Porsche de Hernández-Casares.

Pedro Font suba otra victoria y mantiene el liderato en grupo N

A pesar del duro varapalo sufrido en la carrera del sábado en el Rallye Baja España Aragón 2011, Pedro Font ha podido sumar otro triunfo este domingo y mantiene de esta manera el liderato en el Campeonato de España de Rallyes de Tierra en el apartado de grupo N.

El sábado las cosas empezaron mal para el piloto balear que venía dispuesto a todo en esta prueba doble. Nada más salir al primero de los cuatro largos tramos que componían el rallye, Pedro Font se empezó a encontrar mal con fuertes dolores en la barriga, a mitad de la especial el manacorí se paraba y vomitaba debiendo continuar hasta el final del primer tramo. Al encontrarse indispuesto el equipo tomaba la difícil decisión de retirarse y esperar los resultados del médico de carrera que le diagnosticaba un cólico digestivo.

Afortunadamente en la segunda cita del Rallye Baja España Pedro Font se encontraba en mejores condiciones físicas pudiendo tomar la salida. Para ello los hombres de Calm Competició habían podido terminar de afinar el coche para las condiciones de esta segunda carrera, que contaba con un recorrido bastante más rápido y ancho que el del día anterior. El objetivo del piloto del Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X no era otro que recuperar el tiempo perdido y de esa manera sumaba tres scratchs consecutivos logrando casi medio minuto de ventaja sobre el segundo clasificado. En la última cronometrada el balear levantaba ligeramente el pie del acelerador sin tomar riesgos innecesarios. Tras finalizar la carrera piloto y copiloto se felicitaban por sumar su segunda victoria de la temporada, además lograban el segundo puesto de la Mitsubishi Evo Cup. Dicho triunfo les da fuerza en el campeonato y les permite seguir encabezando el certamen del grupo N.

Pedro Font nos comentaba al llegar al parque de asistencia:

"El sábado fue un día para olvidar, instantes antes de tomar la salida ya me encontraba mal, pero lo achaqué a los típicos nervios previos a la carrera, no obstante en plena especial aguanté lo que pude, pero finalmente en el segundo tramo no pude evitar vomitar. Me encontré indispuesto durante gran parte del día, pero tenía claro que si podía mejorar de cara al domingo, mi meta no sería otra que salir a atacar."

Por fortuna las cosas han mejorado hoy y he realizado una gran actuación gracias a la ayuda de mi copiloto Oriol Julià, hemos podido mantener la primera posición durante toda la carrera, e incluso hemos podido levantar un poco el acelerador en la parte final del último tramo cronometrado."

GIOVANARDI WINS THIRD EUROPEAN CUP FOR HARTMANN RACING

Fabrizio Giovanardi has crowned with another FIA European title his comeback to international touring car racing.
Ten years after winning the European Touring Car Championship twice for Alfa Romeo (in 2001 and 2002) e having added two British Touring Car Championship titles in the meantime, the Italian driver proved that at the age of 45 he is still a winner. At the wheel of a Honda Accord car he won the Super 2000 cup at the Austrian Salzburgring, beating Pepe Oriola (28 years junior!) by one mere point and giving the Danish Hartmann Motorsport their third consecutive title after those won in 2009 and 2010 by James Thompson.
The 17-year old Spaniard Oriola was equally impressive, and showed that his first year in the WTCC is bringing him to maturity very quickly. Just like a veteran he fought with Giovanardi with no awes, and even managed to win the second race, clinching the last international victory for the glorious SEAT León TDi.
Tomas Engström confirmed his consistency and finished third, his fourth podium result in the Euro Cup. Michel Nykjær had less luck, as his hopes to win a third European title were swept away by unexpected engine problems that plagued his Chevrolet Cruze in the qualifying and the races.
The Super Production title went to Serbian racer Aleksandar Tosic, at the wheel of the very same Honda Civic car driven by his fellow countryman Vojislav Lekic to become champion in 2010.
Thomas Mühlenz scored a double victory and clinched the S1600 crown; an historical success as it was achieved at the wheel an LPG-powered Ford Fiesta.

Spanish youngster makes superb start to beat Bortolotti to victory

Spanish newcomer Ramon Pineiro secured his maiden FIA Formula Two win after dominating today’s (Sunday) thrilling race at the legendary Brands Hatch GP circuit.

The 19-year-old, racing in his first year in F2, made a superb start to beat pole-sitter Mirko Bortolotti off the line and lead the packed field into the first corner where he remained until the end of the race.

As Pineiro led the way off the line, Bortolotti had to fend off the attentions of race one winner Jack Clarke, who again made a rapid start from third place on the grid and tried a move up the inside of Paddock Hill Bend but was forced out by the Italian.

With the top three pulling away, Romanian Mihai Marinescu spent much of the race fending off German Tobias Hegewald with the two finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Meanwhile, title challenger Christopher Zanella was trying hard to improve on his ninth place grid slot, working his way up the field to seventh but was then unable to pass Armaan Ebrahim ahead. Ebrahim’s sixth spot was also his best result of the 2011 season and his second points finish of the weekend, with his race including a great battle involving Max Snegirev.

Miki Monras was looking on course for a secure fourth place but a spin at Westfield dropped him down the field, fighting his way back to ninth at the flag and passing Brit James Cole and Mikkel Mac along the way before battling with Jordan King. The 19-year-old Spaniard eventually finished ninth just behind Frenchman Benjamin Lariche who enjoyed one of his best weekends to date.

Alex Brundle endured another difficult race with two trips through the gravel early on at both Paddock Hill Bend and Sheene to run at the tail of the field.

At the front, however, Pineiro was largely untroubled and gradually extended a comfortable lead which eventually stabilised at over two seconds. The winning margin was 1.4 seconds, mainly due to Pineiro easing off towards the end to bring his car home.

21-year-old Bortolotti finished second to maintain his lead in the drivers‘ standings with Clarke claiming third spot and rounding off a fantastic weekend for the Brit on home soil.

Speaking afterwards a delighted Pineiro said: "It’s just fantastic. Coming from a series of disasters that have happened all the way through to then turn it around at Brands Hatch, both yesterday and the win today, is just great and a boost for the next rounds."

The next rounds of the 2011 FIA Formula Two Championship take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 26-28 August.
