LADA PRIORA TO MAKE DEBUT IN PORTUGAL
The LADA Sport team announced that the LADA Priora car will make its first WTCC appearance at Porto, on July 5th. The Priora will replace the LADA 110 2.0 that is currently used by the team.
The design and development of the new racing car have been ongoing since the end of 2008, and the Priora is currently under construction in the LADA Sport workshop. It is due to hit the track for testing by the end of May.
"The first aerodynamic tests in the wind tunnel showed that the Priora is well balanced, which is extremely important. The drag coefficient is very low and makes the LADA one of the best cars in its class," unveiled Vladislav Nezvankin, director of LADA Sport.

THIRD CAR FOR PROTEAM IN MARRAKECH
Proteam Motorsport will expand to three cars for the next event in Marrakech. The 32-year old Italian Vito Postiglione will join Félix Porteiro and George Tanev at the wheel of a third BMW 320si.
"We add a quality driver to an already strong team. I believe that with the addition of Postiglione, our team is getting even stronger. We will provide all three drivers with the best materials in order to offer them the opportunity to shine," team owner Valmiro Presenzini stated.
Postiglione boasts an impressive CV, with a number of races won in the Italian and European Renault Clio trophies. His best achievements were victories in the 2003 Vallelunga 6 hours and the 2007 Ferrari Challenge World Final. "This is an opportunity I was waiting for since long time and I wish to thank Valmiro for supporting me. The programme so far includes some of the European events, then we will evaluate my position in the championship and decide what to do," he said.
COMPENSATION WEIGHT COMES INTO FORCE
WTCC’s new Compensation Weight system will come into force for the first time on the next event at Marrakech.
The system determines the running weight of the WTCC cars on the basis of lap time calculation.
The best lap times of the two fastest cars of each model in qualifying and the two best lap times of the two fastest cars of each model in both races are averaged. The calculation is based on a three event rolling average, except it is applied after the first two events.
The compensation weight for Morocco has been determined by the lap times set in Brazil and Mexico. As a consequence, the SEAT León TDI and BMW 320si have been indentified as the reference models and will receive a compensation weight of 40kg in addition to the minimum weight of 1170kg fixed by the sporting regulations.
All the other cars - Chevrolet Cruze, LADA 110, SEAT León TFSI and Alessandro Zanardi’s BMW 320si (the only one equipped with a sequential gearbox) - will have 20kg deducted from their minimum weight.

PRIAULX IN THE LONDON MARATHON
Triple FIA WTCC champion Andy Priaulx will attempt his first ever marathon. In a personal mission to raise both money and awareness for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, a charity he set up with wife, Jo, Priaulx will take part in the London Marathon on April 26th.
"Foolishly I said to a few friends what about running the Great Wall of China, but before doing anything stupid like that, I should have a go at a marathon. At the end of the day what we really want to do is save more babies lives and that is why I am doing this," he said.

NUEVO PATROCINADOR PARA ALEX PALERM

Todo el equipo del joven piloto mallorquín que participa esta temporada en
el Campeonato de Cataluña y el Campeonato de España de Karting, sigue
trabajando para poder completar el presupuesto de la temporada y afrontar un
calendario con un total de 11 pruebas fuera de la isla.
Esta semana se ha sumado un nuevo colaborador para conseguir este objetivo,
Juan González, propietario de los pubs Revolution y Chaplins de Magalluf, ha
querido poner su grano de arena para apoyar la carrera de Alex Palerm y
colaborar para que el joven piloto siga evolucionando y escalando posiciones
en el duro mundo del karting.
Aprovechando la presentación de la nueva decoración del Kart de Alex Palerm,
Juan González aprovechó la ocasión para probar un kart de la categoría KF3,
una potente máquina preparada por MDC que sirvió para descubrir las
sensaciones de pilotar un kart de competición.
Aunque esta temporada Alex no participará en el Trofeo Super Go Kart, el
trazado de Magalluf sigue siendo su "centro de operaciones" donde realiza
sus entrenamientos y puestas a punto para las pruebas del nacional y el
catalán. La decisión del equipo Diabolo Karting sobre el trofeo Go Kart se
basa en las numerosas pruebas que se disputarán esta temporada ya que se
completará el Campeonato de Cataluña, el Campeonato de España y
probablemente volverá a participar en la Copa de Campeones de final de
temporada.

Letzte Testmöglichkeit vor dem Auftakt
Unmittelbar vor dem Auftaktwochenende trafen sich die Teams des ATS Formel-3-Cup zu einem letzten Test. Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein präsentierte sich ein beeindruckendes Feld am Gründonnerstag in der Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Nach zwei Testeinheiten am Vormittag versammelten sich Teams, Fahrer und Medien im Pressezentrum zum Mittagsimbiss. Schon früh wurde deutlich, dass man die Saison 2009 mit Spannung erwarten darf: 13 der 22 Piloten lagen innerhalb einer einzigen Sekunde.
Im Rahmen des Tests präsentierte die Organisation unter anderem auch einige Neuerungen für 2009. Der ATS Formel-3-Cup besticht diese Saison mit einem umfangreichen Fernsehpaket: im DSF werden diverse Magazinsendungen ausgestrahlt, sodass sämtliche Rennen des ATS Formel-3-Cup einem breiten Publikum zugängig werden. Ein kontinuierlicher Zeitplan bei allen ADAC Masters Weekends gewährleistet, dass die Rennen zu Top-Zeiten starten. Zudem wurde ein umfangreiches freies Training im Reglement festgeschrieben, dass eine perfekte Vorbereitung auf die Rennen ermöglicht.
Der Kreis der Hoffnungsvollen ist groß. Das Starterfeld mit mehr als 20 Fahrzeugen beweist das ungebremste Interesse an Deutschlands schnellste Formel-Rennserie. Hier gehen die Piloten durch eine harte, aber erfolgreiche Lehrzeit gehen, die sie für den internationalen Motorsport fit macht.
Beispiele gefällig? Der amtierende Meister Frédéric Vervisch und Rookie-Champion Sebastian Saavedra setzen ihre Karriere in den USA fort und andere Ehemalige, wie Kevin Mirocha oder Johnny Cecotto stiegen in internationale Formelserien auf. Die entstandenen Lücken wurden schnell gefüllt und mit Nico Monien, Markus Pommer und Willi Steindl (alle Dallara F307 Mercedes) fanden gleich drei Piloten den Weg von ADAC Formel Masters in den ATS Formel-3-Cup. Sie überzeugten bei den bisherigen Testfahrten mit tollen Leistungen und sehen gute Chancen, den etablierten Fahrern das Leben schwer zu machen.
Der Belgier Laurens Vanthoor (Dallara F307 Volkswagen) aus dem Team Van Amersfoort Racing geht in seine zweite Formel-3-Saison und gehört damit zu den klaren Favoriten. Bereits in seinem Debütjahr konnte er zwei Siege und mehrere Podiumsplätze einfahren. Man sollte aber auch ein Auge auf das Team Performance Racing werfen, das seit dieser Saison mit Volkswagen Motoren ausgestattet wird. Der Brasilianer Rafael Suzuki und der Chinese Adderly Fong haben in ihrem jeweils zweiten Formel-3-Jahr das Potenzial, weit nach vorne zu kommen. Darauf hofft auch das einzige Brüderpaar im weltweiten Formel-3-Sport, Garry und David Hausen.
Aber auch der Schwede Max Nilsson (Dallara F307 Mercedes) zählt zum Favoritenkreis. Dazu kommen noch die beiden Österreicher Bernd Herndlhofer und Marco Oberhauser, die ihre ersten Formel-3-Erfahrungen in der ATS Formel-3-Trophy sammelten und sich somit ausgezeichnet für den Start in der zentralen Wertung ATS Formel-3-Cup qualifizieren. Die aktuelle Saison verspricht aber auch den Kampf der Motoren-Giganten: Volkswagen tritt gegen Mercedes in der zentralen Cup-Wertung an und Opel dominiert die Trophy-Klasse.
Genau wie es die Philosophie des ATS Formel-3-Cup will, ist es in diesem Jahr erneut gekommen: neue Teams feiern ihr Debüt: das bayrische Team Zettl Motorsport, ADRF aus Finnland und die beiden russischen Teams ZyXEL RRT und ArtLine Racing. Einen besondern Farbtupfer setzt ArtLine Racing mit den eigen konstruierten und gebauten Monoposti Arttech F24. Man sorgt also für Abwechslung in der von Dallara bestimmten Chassiswelt.
All diese Faktoren tragen zu noch mehr Spannung bei, aber auch die seit dieser Saison verlängerte Renndistanz. Anstatt 25 Minuten fighten die Piloten jetzt 30 Minuten um Plätze und Punkte. Ein klarer Vorteil für diejenigen, die besonnen mit den Yokohama-Reifen umgehen. Somit bietet schon das erste Rennen neue Herausforderungen - auch für die erfahrenen Piloten.
