RALLYE DU MONT BLANC PRESTATION ÉCOURTÉE POUR MATHIEU ARZENO

Mathieu Arzeno portrait

Rallye du Rouergue :The performance of Mathieu Arzeno!

image
Played in the sun near Rodez, Rally Rouergue was up to its reputation. From the first stage, Mathieu Arzeno lost all chances to do well overall. After 15km, the front left tire of his DS3 R3 exploded, forcing its driver to stop and change. "It’s unbelievable, I really didn’t hit anything. I felt a vibration in a straight section. Then, the phenomenon has diminished until the tire literally exploded. The tire will be analyzed in Italy because nobody has an explanation. Anyway, for me, victory is gone! " Restarting now with the objective to show his speed, Mathieu would sign the last 3 best times of the day, with even a second fastest time overall in the last night stage. "I am even more disappointed when I see that I did all the best times. My DS3 R3 works very well and I can do what I want with the car. Tomorrow I will drive with the same goal: to show that I had to win here! "
And on Saturday morning, he kept his promise. Signing 3 of the 6 fastest times possible, Mathieu set a great stage time in the famous Moyrazès stage, of more than 30 km long. He took again the best of all his rivals, pushing them 12 seconds behind. And it was again on the second run of the long stage that Mathieu signed a third fastest time ahead of his teammate Cedric Robert. "I really enjoy driving this DS3 prepared by Saint Eloc. I pushed hard in the first loop. With my lack of experience on this rally, my pace notes were sometimes a bit optimistic but I have not made one single mistake from the beginning of the rally. In the final loop, my tires were "tired" so I slowed down a little bit. A lot of people came to congratulate me for my times, but it was a win I needed. I have nothing to gain tomorrow as the others drivers are too far in front of me. So I’m going to enjoy myself as from the beginning. "
The Sunday were like the other two : a real show of performance. And as like he wanted to prove his supremacy, Mathieu signed all the best times of the last day, leaving only crumbs to the rest. When passing the finish podium, Mathieu had the sense of accomplishment. "With my codriver, Renaud, we do everything to get to prove our abilities, not hesitating to review our onboard camera images taken during the recce when back at the hotel. I am fighting against drivers with a lot of experience. In the beginning of the season, I was told that if I held the pace of Cedric Robert , that I had a good level. Here, I proved that I could be in front, without any mistakes. If I calculate well, without this puncture in the first stage, we would have finished in fifth place overall, with almost 1 minute ahead of the next driver in two-wheel drive! I had the speed, but I proved here that I also had the consistency. I hope other people will realize this and give me a chance in the future! " Appointment is made for the next round of the French Rally Championship in Morzine for the Rallye du Mont Blanc in early September. Enclosed you will find a summary table of the Stages times, and the best performers of the weekend in R3.

Rallyesprint Ciutat de Manacor Da-li Gas 2011

DSC_2975

ROSSETTI-CHIARCOSSI (ABARTH GRANDE PUNTO) WIN RALLY CROATIA

Final

Italians Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi (Abarth Grande Punto) are the winners of the 38th Rally Croatia, second round of the FIA European Rally Championship. The reigning European champions led fellow countrymen Luca Betti and Maurizio Barone (Peugeot 207) and Polish Maciej Oleksowicz – Andrzej Obrebowski (Ford). With this result the Italian crew, which had also won the opening round of the series, scores full points and leads the continental ranking. Slovenian Rok Turk (Peugeot 207 R3T) won the two-wheel drive cars ranking and take the lead of the specific standings. Winners of Gr R and Gr.N were respectively Maciej Rzeznik – Przemyslaw Mazur (Subaru Impreza) and Mauro Patrucco – Chiara Bioletti (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX).

In the third and final day of competition Luca Rossetti further increased his lead by winning  almost all the special stages (the final total is of 10 stage wins against 3 for Betti and one each for Oleksowicz and Szymon Ruta with the Peugeot 207). A great fight for third position between Oleksowicz and Longhi (Skoda). The Polish driver managed to get past his rival before the latter was forced to retire because of the consequences of going off the road on the penultimate special stage, held in the rain.

Once again it is worth to mention the performances, often in the Top 5, of Croatian Juraj Sebali (Mitsubishi), although he is far behind in the overall standings because of the nearly 20′ lost in the first two days of competition. Another excellent race by Niko Pulic (Abarth Grande Punto), the best of the local drivers, who finished seventh overall.EUROPEAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP RANKING:

Driver: 1. Luca ROSSETTI 85 p.; 2. Luca BETTI 47; 3. Maciej OLEKSOWICZ; 4. Renato TRAVAGLIA 28; 5. Dimitar ILIEV 26.

Driver 2WD: 1. Rok TURK 67 p.; 2. Stefano ALBERTINI 39; 3. Giovanni VERGNANO 35; 4. Marco SIGNOR 28; 5. Andrea DALLAVILLA 2.

CROATIA RALLY – SECOND LEG – FINAL

ROSSETTI PULLS AWAY WHILE BETTI INCREASES THE GAP FROM LONGHI

With a bright end to the second day, which had its peak in the fantastic performance amongst a crowd of spectators on the special stage in the town of Opatija (derived from the old circuit). Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi (Abarth) have stretched their led to a reassuring margin of one minute ahead of Luca Betti and Maurizio Barone (Peugeot). The latter, after a great day in which he also won two stages, has in turn gained the same advantage over Piero Longhi. The former Italian champion Italy managed to regain third place overall towards the end of the day, but he will have to with the predictable reaction of Polish Maciej Oleksowicz (Ford) who pursues him, only 6"6 behind.

Behind them, firmly in fifth is Bulgarian Iliev (Skoda), while the fight for sixth place sees Ruta (winner of a stage in the second day), Tlustak (Skoda) and Pulic (Abarth) enclosed in less than 30 seconds.

Andrea Dallavilla’s day had an unlucky epilogue: The leader in Gr.N and ninth overall after the last special stage was forced to retire in the final service due to an engine overheating problem.

Among the 2-wheel drive cars Rok Turk (Peugeot 207 R3T) continues to lead in the  European Championship category, ahead of Giovanni Vergnano (Fiat Grande Punto R3D).

Performance wise,  Croatian Juraj Sebali (Mitsubishi) is still outstanding, almost always among the top 5 overall, although he is far behind in the standings because of the nearly 20′ he lost first when he hit a rock in the first day, and for a puncture in the second.

Standings after Day 2: 1. Rossetti 1.45’53.4; 2. Betti + 1’00.2; 3. Longhi + 1’53.1; 4. Oleksowicz + 1’59.7; 5. Iliev + 3’05.8; 6. Ruta + 4’56.7; 7. Tlustak + 5’09.6; 8. Pulic + 5’23.3; 9. Rzenzik + 6’18.1; 10. Turk-Kranjc + 10’37.9.

CROATIA RALLY – SECOND LEG

ROSSETTI IS STILL LEADING, BETTI AND RUTA ARE THE STARS

OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY

Ruta

While we wait for the grand finale of the second day, culminating in the final special stage in the city of Rijeka, Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi with the Abarth Grande Punto S2000 are still in the lead of the overall standings, but their advantage has been reduced by a few seconds since this morning, although they are still safe thanks to a new best stage time on SS 8.

Thanks mainly to Luca Betti (Peugeot 207) – the fastest on the second stage – but also to a  mistake of the reigning European Champion (a spin on the same stage after having won the  first one) and to a not-perfect set-up choice by Piero Longhi. Longhi had a difficult day, as he fell from second to fourth place.

Remarkable performances of Polish Szymon Ruta, who set a fastest stage time on SS7 gaining two positions in the overall standings.

Another leap forward for Andrea Dallavilla, who passed Polish Rzeznik (Subaru R4).

Among the 2-wheel drive cars still an excellent performance of Slovenian Rok Turk, who with the Peugeot 207 R3T leads ahead of Italian Giovanni Vergnano (Fiat Grande Punto R3D) for the European 2WD standings.

Another great performance for Croatian Niko Pulic, who, although he is transparent for the  European championship standings (as well as the other Croatian driver Dobrila, like all the competitors entered for the sole purpose of the Croatian championship), occupies the seventh position overall behind Ruta and before Czech Tlustak.

CROATIA RALLY – FIRST LEG

ROSSETTI

Croatia Rally started under the banner of the European champions Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi, who with their Grande Punto Abarth with Michelin tires have dominated the first leg winning all the four special stages run.

Renato Travaglia was immediately forced to retire due to an engine problem to his Skoda, the fight for second place was between Piero Longhi (Skoda) and Luca Betti (Peugeot), who took turns behind the Abarth driver and ended the leg divided by just two tenths of a second: an important gap because this gave 2 more points more (for the leg results) to Longhi in the European championship standings.

In the wake of the three Italians are Polish Oleksowicz (Ford) and Bulgarian Iliev (Skoda), while the first local driver, Croatian Niko Pulic is sixth. Andrea Dallavilla (9 th overall) leads in Gr.N and is very close to Maciej Rzeznik (Subaru R4), while Slovenian Rok Turk with the Peugeot 207 R3T leads between the 2 wheel drive cars.

It is worth mentioning the great start of Juraj Sebalj (Mitsubishi): the three-time winner of the race was fifth overall after the first two special stages, but lost 12′ on the third test.

Also noteworthy is the fact that Mauro Patrucco (Mitsubishi) lost a lot of time on the last special stage last night due to a malfunction of his lamp pods.

Luca Rossetti: “Everything is going very well. I also took this opportunity to try out some alternative solutions in view of my next event in the Italian championship, the Targa Florio, which has an itinerary and a surface similar to today’s stages".

Piero Longhi: “The set-up is not completely right, but I am satisfied”.

Niko Pulic: “It is my first race this year and I do not know the car well: I am extremely happy with my result”.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC IN RIJEKA TO MEET THE STARS OF RALLY CROATIA

President_of_Croatia_and_Luca_Rossetti

The President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipovic wanted to greet the protagonists of Rally Croatia before the start of the race. The President arrived in the town centre of Rijeka at 12.30, at the end of the shakedown, and spent about half an hour with the drivers in the start podium area.

His visit has honoured the drivers and the organizers, and that is even more significant since the president found the way and the time to be in Rijeka despite the international institutional commitments set for the afternoon in the Croatian capital.

In the afternoon the Mayor of Rijeka, Vojko Obersnel, waved the start flag to Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi, who opened the list of starters tackling today the first 4 stages of the competition with a return in Rijeka from 22.59.

Three entered drivers have not started. Michal Solowow due to the unavailability of the Mitsubishi Lancer R4, and also Frenchman Cyril Vosalho (Subaru Impreza) and Slovenian Uric Petric (Citroen C2)

CROATIA RALLY: 59 ENTRIES LED BY THE REIGNING EUROPEAN CHAMPION

Longhi-Baggio

A legitimate satisfaction for the organizers of the Croatia Rally who have a total of 59 entries in the event, an uncommon figure for the country, about half of which are foreign crews. There are 16 crews registered for the FIA European Rally Championship, including all the main candidates for the 2011 title, starting with the reigning European champion and current leader of the series, Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi on the Grande Punto Abarth, the 2006, 2009 and 2010 European Champion car.

In the race there will be all the main models of Super 2000 cars: Abarth Grande Punto, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 207, Skoda Fabia. Among the favourites for the overall victory are also the two-time European champion Renato Travaglia, former Italian national champions Piero Longhi and Andrea Dallavilla, former European 2WD champion, Czech Anton Tlustak, former Bulgarian champion Dimitar Iliev and outstanding drivers such as Polish Maciej Oleksowicz, Italian Luca Betti, Polish Szymon Ruta, Frenchman Cyril Vosalho, Croats Niko Pulic and Juraj Šebalj, Slovenian Rok Turk, Hungarian Janos Szylagyi.

It is worth noting that thanks to the organizers‘ decision to offer a free entry to female crews, there will be two such teams at the start, one from Bulgaria, Ekaterina Sratieva and Blagovesta Milanova and one from Croatia, Lana Sutlović and Anamarija Pozojević.

The Croatia Rally is valid for the FIA European Rally Championship, the FIA Central European Trophy, for the Croatian Regional Rally Championship and for the Croatian Rally Championship.

The competition, based in Rijeka, will be held from Thursday to Sunday this week.

CROATIA RALLY WITH ROSSETTI, SOLOWOW AND LONGHI

Rossetti, Solowow, Longhi. Three great protagonists who in the last hours have come to enrich the entry list of the Croatia Rally, the second round of the FIA European Rally Championship scheduled from May 19th to 21st based in Rijeka.

Luca Rossetti and Matteo Chiarcossi, reigning European champions, current series leaders after the first event of 2011 and winners of last year’s Rally of Croatia will have, as always, the Abarth Grande Punto S2000, a car which won the European title both in 2009 (with Basso) and in 2010 (with Rossetti). For the works Abarth driver the opportunity to defend his records and to prepare the way for a new continental title, which would be the third for the crew.

Last year’s championship runner-up Michal Solowow has sent the entry to the race which marks his season debut in the series with a surprise: he is actually entered in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X in the brand new R4 version.

The entry of Piero Longhi also has something unexpected: he will race with the works Skoda Fabia S2000 of the official Slovenian subsidiary.

Entries for Croatia Rally must be sent before midnight on May 5th, therefore the entries‘ complete overview will be available over the weekend.
