Ginetta star targets £100,000 F2 scholarship prize

Successful Ginetta driver Nigel Moore is set to make his single seater debut this season after his participation in the 2010 Formula Palmer Audi Championship was confirmed today (11/03).

18-year-old Nigel has already notched up an impressive list of racing achievements. He won the Ginetta Junior Cup in 2007, the Ginetta G50 Championship in 2008 and became the youngest ever British driver to compete at Le Mans in 2009 when he raced the Ginetta-Zytek LMP1 car.

Moore will enjoy his first full test in an FPA car over the coming weeks before the season gets underway at Brands Hatch on 8/9 May. The talented young racer is now targeting the FPA title and the £100,000 scholarship prize towards a drive in Formula Two – the biggest prize in UK motorsport.

Nigel’s Formula Palmer Audi will be liveried in traditional Ginetta ‚orange‘ as the Briton is being backed by the marque during his 2010 campaign.

Nigel commented: "I’m just ecstatic to be given this chance by Lawrence and Jonathan. The driving talent to come up through FPA speaks for itself and there couldn’t be any bigger incentive to go all out for the title, than the chance to win an F2 scholarship for 2011. I can’t wait to test my new FPA car, the overboost feature is going to make for some very close racing and that’s just the kind of on-track action that I am best at!"

Am Samstag, 08. Mai 2010, ist es wieder soweit: Oldtimer-Freunde aus ganz Deutschland und den Niederlanden werden mit ihren automobilen „Träumen aus Lack und Chrom" den Peter-Plümpe-Platz ansteuern, wo um 10 Uhr der Startschuss zur 21. Kevelaerer Oldtimer-Ausfahrt fällt. Die Starterliste der veranstaltenden Wirtschaftsförderungs-Gesellschaft der Stadt Kevelaer (WfG) umfasst erneut rund 100 gemeldete Fahrzeuge, die am Veranstaltungstag eine große Niederrhein-Tour absolvieren. Neben Wirtschaftsförderin Ruth Keuken (3. von rechts) und WfG-Mitarbeiterin Verena Ridder (links) engagieren sich Jakob und Uschi Louven von Fahrzeugbau Louven (2.v.re. u. re.), Oldtimer-Fachmann Klaus Lentzen aus Weeze (2. von links) sowie Anne Heistrüvers und Christian Ripkens (3. und 4. von links) von der Katholischen Landjugendbewegung Winnekendonk-Achterhoek im Interesse der Traditionsveranstaltung. So werden gemeinsam letzte Details für das Frühstück in Kevelaer besprochen und Informationen für die Helfer, die als Streckenposten eingesetzt werden, ausgetauscht. Ebenso werden letzte Absprachen zur Strecke getroffen, die in diesem Jahr von Kevelaer über Kranenburg nach Uedem führt. Während der Fahrt sorgen kurze Stopps und kleine Spiele für Abwechslung bei den Teilnehmern der 21. Kevelaerer Oldtimer-Ausfahrt. Auch hier hat sich das Team Aufgaben ausgedacht, die für jeden Oldtimer-Liebhaber lösbar sein werden.

Bobby Issazadhe ist der Mann hinter dem Team Performance Racing, Schwedens einzigem international agierenden Team im Formel-Sport. Schon seit der Gründung im Jahr 1999 steht Issazadhe am Ruder der Truppe aus Göteborg. Im vergangenen Jahrzehnt war Performance Racing in diversen Serien von der Britischen Formel-3-Meisterschaft bis zur A1GP-Serie aktiv. Seit 2008 jedoch konzentriert man sich in erster Linie auf den ATS Formel-3 Cup. Im Jahr 2010 nun hat das Team einen Landsmann als Fahrer für den ATS Formel-3 Cup verpflichtet: Felix Rosenqvist.
Was hat Felix Performance Racing zu bieten?
Bobby Issazadhe: Felix wird für Performance Racing gute Resultate einfahren sowie – langfristig – Siege und Titel.
Wie war der Eindruck nach den ersten Gesprächen?
Bobby Issazadhe: Während unseres Testtags in Valencia – im Dezember – hat Felix uns sehr beeindruckt. Er war gut vorbereitet, zu 100 Prozent auf den Job konzentriert und wusste genau, was er zu tun hatte. Trotz des teilweise grauenhaften Wetters war das Team mit seinen Leistungen sehr zufrieden. Später in der Woche hatten wir das Vergnügen, ihn auch auf trockener Strecke zu erleben – und waren erneut sehr beeindruckt. Auch haben wir während der Tage in Valencia mehrfach mit Felix gesprochen und kamen zu dem Schluss, dass er absolut entschlossen ist, im Rennsport Karriere zu machen. Also ein Fahrer, der es verdient, dass man ihm jede erdenkliche Unterstützung zukommen lässt.
Mit Alon Day als Teamkollege von Felix geht Performance Racing mit einer vollständig neuen Fahrer-Paarung an den Start. Was erwartet man von einer Saison, die mit zwei F3-Rookies bestreiten wird?
Bobby Issazadhe: Obwohl sowohl Alon als auch Felix Formel-3-Novizen sind, haben beide in der Formel Renault bewiesen, dass sie in der Lage sind, Rennen und Titel zu gewinnen. Deshalb denke ich, dass sie sich beide schnell positiv entwickeln werden. Allerdings müssen wir Ihnen ein paar Rennen Zeit geben, sich an alles zu gewöhnen. Doch ich hoffe auf Podiums-Platzierungen und – eventuell – sogar Rennsiege.
Was wird sich für Felix als Aufsteiger aus der Formel Renault als größte Herausforderung erweisen?
Bobby Issazadhe: Aus technischer Hinsicht sicherlich, sich mit der sehr ausgeklügelten Aerodynamik eines Formel-3-Autos auseinanderzusetzen und anzufreunden. Ein Formel 3 produziert deutlich mehr Abtrieb als der Formel Renault. Dazu kommen auch noch die neuen Strecken, die er lernen muss und die Tatsache, dass er gegen Fahrer mit weitaus mehr Formel-3-Erfahrung antreten wird.
2010 feiert Performance Racing sein zehnjähriges Formel-3-Jubiläum. Wo würden Sie den ATS Formel-3 Cup im Vergleich zu anderen nationalen Formel-3-Serien einstufen?
Bobby Issazadhe: Wir haben schon 2003 einige Rennen in Deutschland bestritten und ich habe die seit damals gemachten Fortschritte direkt miterleben können. Meiner Ansicht nach hat die Serie mittlerweile ein Level erreicht, auf dem sie in punkto Professionalität der Top-Teams und -Fahrer locker mit der Britischen Formel-3-Meisterschaft mithalten kann. Die Euro Serie bleibt weiterhin die Top-Klasse des Formel-3-Sports, doch aufgrund der extrem hohen Kosten gibt es einige Fragezeichen bezüglich ihrer Zukunft. Der deutsche ATS Formel-3 Cup hingegen wird dank der erfolgreichen Kosten-Kontroll-Programme von Organisation und Teams Jahr um Jahr immer stärker. Die kommende Saison wird definitiv die beste seit vielen Jahren und beim Kampf um Positionen, Punkte und Siege dürfte es extrem hart zugehen.
Wenn Sie einen Faktor nennen müssten, der die Stärken von Performance Racing am besten beschreibt, welchen würden Sie nennen?
Bobby Issazadhe: Unsere Stärken sind unsere Erfahrung und unser Wissen! Ich persönlich habe einerseits eine Menge Erfahrung als Fahrer auf zwei und vier Rädern und andererseits bin ich auch ein erfahrener Geschäftsmann und Team-Besitzer. Die Kombination aus Erfahrung sowie den Fähigkeiten des Schlüssel-Personals unseres Teams ist unsere Hauptstärke.

Jolyon Palmer to make Formula Two return

19-year-old Briton aiming for maiden F2 victory in 2010

Jolyon Palmer has today (10/03) confirmed that he will return to the Formula Two line-up in 2010 for his second year in the F1 feeder series.

Jolyon, son of 1983 F2 champion and ex-F1 driver Jonathan Palmer, graduated to Formula Two last season after finishing third in the 2008 Formula Palmer Audi Championship. One of the youngest competitors in the 2009 F2 field, he made a promising start to the season when he recorded his first top ten finish in the second round at Brno in the Czech Republic.

Palmer, 19, went on to perform well at both Spa-Francorchamps and Brands Hatch, before scoring his first points of the season with a sixth place finish in the second race at Imola in September.

The Comma-backed Briton also joined F2 for all four days of winter testing, beating an exceptional field to set the fastest time of day two at Portimão, Portugal. After gaining valuable experience in his first year of international single seater racing, Palmer admits he will be looking to launch himself towards the front of the field in the forthcoming campaign.

Jolyon Palmer said: “Last season was a little disappointing for me until towards the end of the year when I scored my first points. I was also quick during winter testing and hopefully I can carry this momentum into my second F2 campaign. The testing in Portimão in December was particularly competitive and I went really well there, so this is hopefully a good sign that I can run at the front and get my first win in F2 this season. I am used to the one team environment having been in FPA previously and then in F2, and I really feel I can get the best out of it. I will start the season on a race by race basis to see where I stand compared to the other drivers, but I really feel that I have the potential to be a contender and if things go my way, maybe even win the title.”

Jonathan Palmer, Formula Two Series Director, said: "As with a number of young drivers, F2 was always going to be a multi year programme for Jolyon. Last year was very challenging – I think many people underestimated just how tough the competition was – but Jo improved encouragingly over the final couple of events. He was right on the pace in winter testing and should be a regular points scorer in 2010 when he will be hoping to match the pace of the current field, plus some well respected, quick drivers who are about to finalise their F2 budgets and be announced next week.”

Moisés Vallés será el responsable de trasladarse con los dos prometedores pilotos, contando con el pleno apoyo del equipo italiano a todos los niveles.

This is the big news of this second and last test day: Matech Competition will enter one of its Ford GTs in the 1000Km of Spa (May 7/8/9) with three handsome Swiss girls -Cindy Alemann, Natacha Gachnang and Raël Frey. As for Belgian Vanina Ickx, she announces that she will be one of the Signature Plus Lola Aston Martin’s drivers for both the 1000 Km of Spa and the 24 Hours of Le Mans!

MULLER AND TARQUINI ON TOP AGAIN

History repeated in Brazil with Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini taking a victory apiece for the second year in succession in Curitiba and leaving Brazil as joint leaders of the Drivers Championship, the only difference being the teams they are competing for.
The Chevrolet team commanded Race 1 with all three of their drivers filling the podium. The good points haul means the USA brand comes away from Curitiba leading the Manufacturers‘ Championship with 70 points.
All eyes were on the newly formed SEAT customer team, SR-Sport, to see what they had to offer. Race 1 provided a best result of fourth with Tarquini, but the defending champion came fighting back in Race 2 to take victory ahead of team mate Jordi Gené and making it a satisfactory end to the weekend for the team.
BMW Team RBM struggled on race day after the weather went against them despite being the pace setters for most of the weekend. Local boy Augusto Farfus had to settle for two sixth places, while Andy Priaulx was forced out of the second race after a clash with his team-mate.
The newcomers were impressive. Norbert Michelisz and Michel Nykjær showed they can chase the most experienced drivers, Fredy Barth opened the roll of honour of the new Rookie Challenge, while Darryl O’Young fought for the Independents‘ victory in Race 1 with Stefano D’Aste and Sergio Hernández.

Meeke takes IRC record with Rally Internacional de Curitiba victory

Kris Meeke has become the most successful driver in the short history of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge by winning Rally Internacional de Curitiba for a second successive time. Co-driven by Irishman Paul Nagle, the defending IRC champion beat fellow Briton Guy Wilks to victory in Brazil by 46.7 seconds following a faultless performance in his Peugeot 207 Super 2000. It was Meeke’s fifth win from 12 IRC starts.
Behind Skoda UK driver Wilks, Juho Hanninen claimed six fastest stage times on his way to the final podium spot in third. The result means the Finn now tops the drivers‘ standings with 14 points to the 11 Wilks has accumulated during the opening two rounds of the 12-event IRC season.
Meeke’s only cause for concern on day two occurred when he came across a flooded river just under three kilometres into stage ten. He said the section was almost one metre deep and 50 metres in length. At one point he feared he might aquaplane off the road. However, he completed the test unscathed and marked his victory by completing a celebratory lap of the Curitiba race circuit, which is hosting the opening two rounds of the World Touring Car Championship tomorrow (Sunday). The races are being televised live on Eurosport.
Wilks also suffered at the hands of the watersplash when his Skoda Fabia’s engine momentarily cut onto three cylinders after taking in too much liquid. To prevent a repeat of the problem on the second pass of the stage in the afternoon, Wilks attacked the watery section at full speed. He avoided any time loss but damaged his car’s bumper.
Jan Kopecky started the second leg in third place but a right-rear puncture five kilometres before the finish of the Saturday’s first 28.32-kilometre Bocaiuva stage dropped him into Hanninen’s clutches. And his Skoda team-mate duly moved in front on the next stage to run.
Bruno Magalhaes scored points on his second IRC event in a row despite reporting making a few mistakes with his pacenotes, which resulted in a loss of confidence. Unable to catch Kopecky for fourth and with his fifth place secured, Magalahes spent the final stages trying different set-ups for the third round of the IRC in Argentina later this month.
Eduardo Scheer completed the top six in his Ralliart Mitsubishi Lancer. The Brazilian fought out a close battle with Bolivian Eduardo Peredo, whose similar Lancer suffered an engine failure within sight of the finish of the final stage, where he retired.
Daniel Oliveira had been sixth when he picked up a front-left puncture ten kilometres into Saturday’s first stage. Because it was only a slow puncture Oliveira and new co-driver Denis Giraudet elected to soldier to the end of the stage before changing the damaged tyre. They were rewarded with seventh overall in their Stohl Racing-run 207.
IRC 2WD Cup winner Marcos Tokarski, from Brazil, secured the final IRC drivers‘ point in eighth overall aboard his 1600cc Peugeot 207.
Heavy rain during rally week forced organisers to cancel the two Rio Pesqueiro stages when the river of the same name running adjacent to it burst its banks. The event-closing Super Prime Pinhais stage was also lost because of the weather.

Juho Hanninen (Finland), Skoda Fabia S2000, third overall: "I am quite satisfied because we are now leading the championship when yesterday we thought it would be a really bad result after the puncture. I kept pushing today to keep the rhythm and it is lucky for me Jan got his puncture because it might have been hard to have got ahead of him."
