El jovencísimo piloto mallorquín Juan Carlos Resoagli, se proclamó vencedor en la categoria cadete, este pasado fin de semana en la segunda prueba puntuable para el Campeonato Balear de karting, disputada en la Isla de Ibiza.

Juan Carlos, que se mostró uno de los pilotos más rápidos en pista, demostrando una facilidad asombrosa para adaptarse a cualquier tipo de trazado, ya en los entrenamientos cronometrados realizaba el 3º mejor tiempo, para en la primera manga de carrera clasificarse en 2ª posición, y en la última y definitiva manga, obtener una merecidísima victoria, que de esta manera hace que el joven piloto se situe en la 2 ª posición de la clasificación general del campeonato.

Juan Carlos, contó con el asesoramiento y colaboración técnica del equipo de competición KPS Racing, y el apoyo incondicional de su inseparable entrenador Angel Campos, a los que dedicó la victoria final, haciendo mención especial al Circuito Mallorca Renn Arena, donde el joven piloto mallorquín realiza los test de preparación de su kart.

Inmersos ya en pleno verano, el Campeonato de Cataluña de Velocidad (Open Fórmula) afronta este fin de semana su tercera cita de la temporada y lo hace en el complejo del Parcmotor de Castellolí (Barcelona) donde se esperan temperaturas máximas que superen los treinta grados, mientras que las mínimas rondarán los dieciocho. El astro sol será uno de los protagonistas y a buen seguro que pondrá a prueba las mecánicas de las diferentes especialidades que se darán cita este fin de semana en el Parcmotor de Castellolí.

El trazado barcelonés cuenta con un recorrido máximo de 4.200 metros con un diseño revolucionario que difiere de la mayoría de circuitos de Europa, ello implica que los pilotos deben aplicarse y demostrar sus mejores cualidades, ya que cuenta con importantes desniveles en subida y bajada.

Toni Alarcón para esta ocasión tiene una difícil tarea, defender el primer puesto de la provisional del campeonato. El piloto de Munditubo ha partido hoy rumbo a la ciudad condal con la intención de tener su primera toma de contacto con el circuito lo antes posible, no obstante no será hasta mañana, con motivo de los entrenamientos libres, cuando su monoplaza con los colores del Santander pise el asfalto del circuito de Castellolí.

Al igual que en las anteriores pruebas Toni Alarcón competirá en el seno del equipo Master Júnior Fórmula con un monoplaza BMW FA-99 y dentro de la categoría Sub-18. La ventaja del mallorquín es mínima ya que tan solo le separan dos puntos del segundo clasificado, Mauro Marques. De ahí la importancia de puntuar en ambas carreras, y a ser posible siempre pensando en subir al podio.

El sábado los participantes en el Open Fórmula tendrán tres tandas de entrenamientos libres a partir de las 14:30 horas, mangas que alternarán con el resto de categorías, y que pondrán punto y final a las 18:00 horas. El domingo a las 8:00 horas se realizarán las verificaciones y posteriormente del tradicional "briefing". A las 9:55 se disputarán los entrenamientos oficiales, mientras que las carreras del Open Fórmula serán a las 12:35 horas, la primera, y a las 15:20 horas la segunda y definitiva.

"Nuestra meta para esta cita pasa por seguir manteniendo el liderazgo en el campeonato, y para ello habrá que hacer un esfuerzo extra, ya que las altas temperaturas pueden hacer mella tanto en las mecánicas como en los pilotos, será primordial mantener una buena hidratación, y por otro lado no cometer errores. Hay que hacer una buena clasificación e intentar salir en los primeros puestos de la parrilla, ello nos permitirá poder llevar nuestro ritmo y evitar duelos innecesarios que pueden perjudicar nuestra privilegiada y ajustada posición en el certamen."

Volvo Cars has announced that Polestar Racing – Volvo Motorsport’s official partner – will take part in the FIA WTCC events at Brands Hatch and Okayama this year.
These participations will mark the first step towards a possible full time involvement by the Swedish Manufacturer in the world championship from 2011.
"We see WTCC now addressing its major obstacle for growth with the new engine regulations. At the same time we see several national championships starting to stray from the FIA S2000 regulations by several own counterproductive decisions and dispensations from a manufacturer perspective. We will remain focused on the improved FIA S2000 regulations used in WTCC. That is why we have given Polestar a green light to further evaluate competitiveness and challenged them to establish a financial and technical plan for WTCC for 2011, including a full FIA homologation of the current C30 car," commented Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Motorsport Commercial Director at Volvo Cars.
Polestar Racing entered one bio-ethanol powered Volvo C30 DRIVe for Robert Dahlgren, who is currently leading the Scandinavian and the Swedish Touring Car Championships.
"We are very happy Volvo Cars has made the decision to let us do Brands Hatch again and Okayama. We have done one World Touring Car Championship event per season the last two seasons to evaluate our car against the best. These two meetings will allow an even better evaluation," said Polestar Racing Managing Director Christian Dahl.
Because the Volvo C30 has been homologated on a national basis, it will not be eligible to score championship points in Brands Hatch and Okayama, according to art. 9. b) of the WTCC Sporting Regulations.

ROUTE TO: BRANDS HATCH, UK
The 11th and 12th rounds of the FIA WTCC will take place next week at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, located 30 km South East of London. It is the fifth consecutive year the championship will have visited the Kent racetrack.
The WTCC races in Brands have often marked a first. In 2006 Race 1, Yvan Muller claimed his first success since he joined SEAT Sport, while in Race 2 Alain Menu gave Chevrolet their first WTCC win. In 2007 Race 2 Andy Priaulx obtained his first (and so far his only) WTCC victory on home soil.
Among the current WTCC drivers, Menu has won at Brands Hatch eleven times, four WTCC victories and seven racing in the British Touring Car Championship.
Since winning last year’s Race 1 on the Kent circuit, the Swiss racer has been unable to claim another victory and will definitely be looking to end his drought.
In 2009 the second race was won by BMW’s Augusto Farfus.

Brazilian touring car star Carlos "Cacá" Bueno will join the Chevrolet team for the British event at Brands Hatch. The 33-year old from Rio will be at the wheel of the fourth Cruze car that was previously driven by Leonel Pernía in Monza and Vincent Radermecker in Zolder.
Bueno has built himself a solid reputation in South American touring car racing. In 1997, at the age of 21, he clinched the national title in the Stock Car’s Class B and two years later he was crowned champion of the South American Supertouring Nations Cup in a Peugeot 406. He then moved to Argentina and was classified 4th in the 2001 TC2000 before returning to the Brazilian Stock Car championship in which he drove for Chevrolet, Mitsubishi and Peugeot, grabbing three titles (2006, 2007 and 2009) and finishing second three times (2003, 2004 and 2005).
"Cacá’s presence in Brands Hatch will be a great plus for the team in RML’s home race and will contribute to further raise interest for the WTCC in South America," commented Eric Nève, Chevrolet Motorsport Director.

THE RETURN OF TOM BOARDMAN
Tom Boardman will make his first WTCC appearance of the season at his home event in Brands Hatch driving a petrol-powered SEAT León car entered by SUNRED Engineering.
Boardman was a regular competitor in last year’s WTCC and claimed his first victory in the Independents‘ Trophy in Brands Hatch’s Race 2. This year he is competing in the British Touring Car Championship and currently lies 11th in the standings.

El CEV llega a su ecuador en el Circuito de Motorland

Sin apenas tiempo para descansar de su reciente participación en el Gran Premi de Catalunya, donde consiguió una meritoria 19ª plaza en la categoría de 125GP, el piloto mallorquín Joan Perelló se ha desplazado al nuevo circuito de Motorland – Aragón, donde participará en la cuarta prueba del Campeonato de España de Velocidad (CEV).

Tanto el piloto como el equipo en el que milita, el Honda SAG-Castrol, están convencidos de sus posibilidades, y se han fijado un objetivo muy ambicioso, luchar por las plazas de honor.

El jefe del equipo Eduardo Perales y su jefe de mecánicos Gorka están convencidos que Joan está ya totalmente recuperado de su lesión de clavícula, y que se puede cumplir el objetivo inicial, que no es otro que el de “ser constantes en cada carrera y no cometer errores, siendo regulares en el top 5″. El piloto de CTE/EBE se encuentra en este momento situado en la décima posición de la provisional con 15 puntos, y aunque los tres primeros se han distanciado considerablemente, aún está relativamente cerca de resto de pilotos que le preceden. La carrera de Motorland marca el ecuador del certamen, y es crucial para el despegue de Perelló.

El próximo fin de semana del 10 al 11 de julio, el Campeonato de España de Velocidad (CEV) llega a su ecuador con la cuarta prueba de la temporada, que se celebra en el nuevo circuito de Motorland – Aragón, muy cerca de la localidad de Alcañiz. La Escudería Mallorca New Limit, y sus pilotos Ángel Poyatos y Alfonso Alcaide, seguirán con su participación en este importante y competido certamen, en un año donde deben coger experiencia y optar por situarse en la zona media de la clasificación.

Ángel Poyatos participa con una Aprilia RSW 125R en la categoría de 125GP, mientras que Alfonso Alcaide lo hace con una Yamaha R1 en Stock-Extreme, con un objetivo común, lograr sus primeros puntos. Mallorca New Limit ha iniciado este jueves el traslado de toda su infraestructura al circuito Motorland, con Luis Borrás y César Bisbal al frente, director y jefe de macánicos de la escudería mallorquina, para dar el soporte técino a sus dos jóvenes y prometedores pilotos.

El piloto mallorquín participará este fin de semana en la novena prueba puntuable para el Campeonato del Mundo de Supersport que se celebra en la República Checa.
Uno de los problemas que presentará el ciruíto de Brno será el de las altas temperaturas que hacen que la puesta a punto de las motos sea más complicada.
Con un total de 5.403 metros de cuerda, el Autódromo de Brno es uno de los más largos del Campeonato y el equipo Triumph deberá trabajar la puesta a punto para conservar los neumáticos sobretodo con las altas temperaturas que se sufrirán durante todo el fin de semana.
David Salom acude a la cita como quinto clasificado del Campeonato del Mundo, por delante de experimentados pilotos oficiales, pero el mallorquín no se conformará con defender su posición, sino que espera poder disputar la cuarta plaza a su compañero de equipo Chaz Davies.
David Salom: "Tenemos una buena moto y tenemos ritmo de carrera, si solucionamos algunos detalles de la puesta a punto podemos estar delante, lo hemos conseguido en Philip Island y Valencia, ahora tenemos que lograrlo en otros circuitos y seguir sumando puntos en la clasificación."

Desafortunado fin de semana para el Mallorca New Limit

Este pasado fin de semana se ha celebrado en el Circuito de Cartagena la tercera prueba del certamen MotoDes, en la que participa el piloto de la Escudería Mallorca New Limit Miquel Pons en la categoría Pre-GP. La progresión de Miquel fue contante a medida que se acercaba el día de la carrera, consiguiendo un tiempo de 1:48.397 en la primera sesión, rebajándolo hasta 1:47.836 en la segunda. Miquel hubiera podido revajar estos registros, pero el excesivo celo de los auxiliares de pista lo impidió, ya que tras una salida de pista en cada uno de los entrenos, no le permitieron que se incorporara a la pista, no pudiendo aprovechar en ninguna de las ocasiones el tiempo disponible.

Aún así, el tiempo marcado en la segunda sesión le permitiría salir desde la tercera linea de la parrilla de salida en la décima posición, con la circunstancia de que desde el quinto clasificado hasta Miquel habían conseguido tiempos muy similares, por lo que la escudería tenía muchas esperanzas de que el joven piloto mallorquín pudiera conseguir un gran resultado.

Pero las cosas no sucedieron como estaban previstas y tras una mala salida quedó relegado a las últimas posiciones. En su afán de recuperar las posiciones perdidas lo antes posible, y tras adelantar a varios pilotos, se tocó con uno de ellos, desplazándolo al “piano”, que al estar muy sucio le provocó una nueva caída. Se levantó inmediatamente, pero otra vez los auxiliares le negaron la ayuda necesaria para poder volver a la pista, por lo que tuvo que retirarse. Una verdadera lástima, ya que Miquel Pons está demostrando una gran progresión.

La cuarta y última prueba del motoDes se celebrará en el nuevo circuito de Motorland-Aragón, el 26 de septiembre, aunque la Escudería Mallorca New Limit tiene esta misma semana (11/07) una importantísima cita en el Campeonato de España de Velocidad (CEV), en este mismo circuito, ya que participará en la categoría de 125GP con Ángel Poyatos y en la de Stock-Extreme con Alfonso Alcaide.

Gran Actuación de Joan Perelló en el G.P. de Catalunya

El piloto mallorquín Joan Perelló, ha participado en la categoría de 125GP del Gran Premio de Catalunya del Mundial de Motociclismo, que se ha celebrado este pasado fin de semana en el Circuito de Montmeló. Esta es la segunda ocasión en la que Joan participa como wild-car (piloto invitado), integrado en el Equipo Honda SAG-Castrol que dirige Eduardo Perales. El tremendo calor que estuvo presente en las tres jornadas que dura todo gran premio, no permitió al piloto del “Centre de Tecnificació de Motociclisme de l’Escola Balear de l’Esport” (CTE-EBE), rendir al nivel esperado, consiguiendo como mejor tiempo un 1:54.735, que le obligó a salir desde la 26ª posición.

en carrera, el piloto Balear Joan Perelló estuvo a muy buen nivel bajo el sol abrasador que castigaba el asfalto del circuit de Catalunya. Joan estuvo batallando durante gran parte de la carrera con un grupo grande de pilotos donde un error se penalizaba perdiendo varias posiciones en la clasificación. Finalmente, Perelló se hizo con la 19ª plaza de la carrera confirmando con ello que vuelve a estar a la altura de las circunstancias.

19º JOAN PERELLÓ (SAG-CASTROL HONDA TEAM), 42’22.538: “Hoy he tenido una carrera muy divertida ya que, a pesar de que la salida no ha sido gran cosa, me he colocado detrás de un grupo de unos 7 pilotos, se ha puesto bastante difícil la lucha por encabezar el grupo y tenía que ser muy técnico y hacer buenas trazadas porque el más mínimo error podía hacerme perder muchas posiciones. Finalmente he acabado la carrera 19º y con muy buenas sensaciones de cara a la carrera de Motorland en la que todo el equipo está poniendo todo su empeño por hacer algo histórico. Quiero agradecer a los patrocinadores la oportunidad que me han brindado para competir en una carrera mundialista y también a mi familia y amigos por todo el apoyo que me dan para que siempre esté peleando por mejorar.”

Este próximo fin de semana, del 10 al 11 de julio, Joan retomará su participación en el CEV Buckler 2010, que celebrará su cuarta carrera de la temporada en el nuevo trazado de Motorland Aragón.

MONTEIRO AND TARQUINI MAKE TWO SEAT WINS

Local hero Tiago Monteiro and reigning world champion Gabriele Tarquini scored one victory apiece in Portugal, making it a perfect weekend for SEAT Customers Technology.
In Race 1, cheered by his home crowd, Monteiro ended the monopoly of the three WTCC champions – Tarquini, Muller and Priaulx – who had claimed all the race wins from the beginning of the season. The Portuguese racer came back on the WTCC winning podium two years after another home victory at Estoril, resisting a final charge from Yvan Muller and Tarquini.
In Race 2, Tarquini put in a dominant performance, annihilating the rest of the field to achieve his fourth victory of the season. Muller and Rob Huff completed the podium after a breathtaking battle with Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus, Tom Coronel and Alain Menu.
Thanks to a couple of second places, Yvan Muller maintained his leadership in the Drivers‘ Championship. With Priaulx and Huff non-scorers in the first race, the Frenchman and Tarquini stretched the gap at the front.
Norbert Michelisz and Fredy Barth shared victories in the Rookie Challenge, while the Independents‘ Trophy saw successes for Sergio Hernández and Darryl O’Young.
The championship will resume for rounds 11 and 12 at Brands Hatch, UK, on July 18th.

LAST UPDATE – HUFF STRIPPED OF RACE 2 PODIUM
Chevrolet’s Rob Huff was stripped of his third place in the second race following a Stewards decision.
The Briton was under investigation for two different incidents with Augusto Farfus, one in each of today’s races.
After hearing the competitors and watching videos, the Panel of the Stewards decided to impose Huff a reprimand for the first incident and a 30-second time penalty for the second one. The decision meant that Huff slipped from third to 22nd in Portimão’s Race 2, while his teammate Alain Menu inherited third position.

Briton takes third win of the season ahead of Palmer and De Marco

Dean Stoneman took a commanding victory in the second race in Portugal, the Briton jumping Jolyon Palmer from the start and setting a relentless pace to eventually clinch his third win of the year by just over four seconds.

Palmer limited the damage done to his championship lead by finishing second, although the Briton came under intense pressure from Nicola De Marco and Benjamin Bailly as the race drew to a close.

De Marco crossed the finish line less than half a second behind Palmer, clinging on to third after running wide at turn 13 on the final lap to give Benjamin Bailly a sniff of his third podium in a row. Bailly had trailed De Marco by less than one second for almost the entire race, but wasn’t quite close enough and had to settle for fourth.

Such was the competition between Palmer, De Marco and Bailly that the trio were covered by less than one second, although it emerged after the race that Palmer has been running with a loose wheel nut on his front left tyre.

Romanian Mihai Marinescu drove to a lonely fifth place, after improving from ninth on the grid. Much of his progress was made during a first lap melee, which sent Kazim Vasiliauskas and Armaan Ebrahim out of the race and Benjamin Lariche to the back of the field.

The drama on lap one continued when Jack Clarke tipped Kelvin Snoeks into the gravel and both cars retired on the spot, leaving a disjointed feel to the lower end of the top ten. The contest began to calm down on lap two and it was Britain’s Will Bratt who emerged in sixth place, although with visible damage to his front wing.

Clearly struggling for downforce, Bratt set about defending for the entire race as a gaggle of cars bunched up behind him. Philipp Eng attacked time after time in the early stages, before Bratt began to find his pace and hold position. A surging Sergey Afanasiev had made his way up to eighth from 14th on the grid, but the Russian had Ricardo Teixeira in his mirrors throughout as the pair closed in on Bratt and Eng ahead.

The fight ended for Afanasiev and Teixeira on lap 17 however, when both cars spun into the gravel at the final corner – narrowly avoiding the stricken machine of Plamen Kralev who had crashed out a few laps earlier.

Bratt and Eng went on to claim sixth and seventh, ahead of another great tussle for eighth. Despite spinning at the turn five hairpin at the midway distance, Ivan Samarin recovered to claim eighth after passing the impressive Natalia Kowalska late on. The Polish female racer went on to score her second points paying position of the weekend however, capping a memorable event for the 20-year-old.

Lariche was able to score a solitary point after coming back from his opening lap disappointment, but the Frenchman still has a credible record of scoring points in seven of the ten races so far this season.

Nürnberg. Rennsportfieber im Herzen von Nürnberg. 132.000 Fans verfolgten ein spannendes DTM-Rennwochenende auf dem Norisring und feierten am Sonntag den Sieger Jamie Green aus Großbritannien. Der Mercedes-Benz-Pilot gewann nach 2008 und 2009 nun bereits zum dritten Mal auf dem 2,3 Kilometer langen Stadtkurs und das immer mit dem selben Fahrzeug des Jahrgangs 2008. Green wehrte sich über viele Runden gegen die Angriffe des zweitplatzierten Mattias Ekström im Audi A4 DTM, setzte sich aber am Ende mit einem Vorsprung von gerade einmal 0,5 Sekunden gegen den Schweden durch. „Mattias war mir stets auf den Fersen, das war nicht einfach. Auf dieser Strecke kannst du leicht Fehler machen. Ich bin froh, dass ich mich bis zum Schluss vorn halten konnte. Drei Siege hintereinander sind ein gutes Geschenk zur Hochzeit. Diesen Sieg widme ich meiner Frau. Wir können zwar keine Fußballspiele, dafür aber Autorennen gewinnen“, sagte der Brite, der jetzt sechs DTM-Rennen gewonnen hat.
Ekström zeigte sich wegen der verpassten Siegchance ein wenig enttäuscht: „Natürlich bin ich nicht überglücklich mit meinem zweiten Platz. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass ich der Schnellste wäre. Das Auto war so gut, ich könnte noch eine Stunde fahren. Die Reifen haben gut gehalten. Aber der Gegner ist fehlerfrei gefahren und war klug genug, den Sieg nach Hause zu bringen. Die Strecke passt Jamie, das haben wir in den vergangenen Jahren auch schon gesehen.“
Der Führende der Gesamtwertung, Mercedes-Benz-Pilot Bruno Spengler, überquerte als Dritter die Ziellinie und baut seine Führung nun auf 32 Punkte aus. Green schob sich dank zehn Punkten für den Sieg mit 22 Zählern auf die Verfolgerposition vor, gefolgt von Ekström, der nun 21 Punkte auf seinem Konto hat.
Beim Start blieb zunächst der Pole-Mann Ralf Schumacher mit der AMG Mercedes C-Klasse vorn. Doch die Sportkommissare verhängten für seinen Frühstart eine Durchfahrtstrafe, die Schumacher in Runde sieben als Führender antrat und die ihn auf den 18. Platz zurückwarf. Der Kerpener kämpfte sich durch das Feld und wurde schließlich Elfter.
Schadensbegrenzung bei Audi-Pilot Timo Scheider. Der zweifache DTM-Champion wurde im Qualifying am Samstag nur Zehnter, konnte sich jedoch im Rennen steigern und fuhr hinter dem Briten Oliver Jarvis (Audi) mit Platz fünf in die Punkte. Der Auftaktsieger aus Hockenheim und Dritter der Gesamtwertung, Mercedes-Benz-Fahrer Gary Paffett, wurde Sechster vor Alexandre Prémat aus Frankreich (Audi).
Unzufrieden zeigte sich Martin Tomczyk. Der Rosenheimer erwischte von Platz vier einen schlechten Start und verlor zehn Plätze. Nach 82 Runden sammelte der Audi-Pilot als Achter dennoch einen Punkt für die Gesamtwertung. Der Brite Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz), der vor dem Rennen auf Platz zwei der Gesamtwertung lag, wurde Opfer einer Kollision mit Prémat in der ersten Rennrunde. Er drehte sich und beendete das Rennen als Zehnter. Markenkollege David Coulthard aus Schottland verpasste den Sprung in die Top-Ten und sah als 13. die Zielflagge.
Das fünfte DTM-Rennwochenende des Jahres findet vom 6. bis 8. August auf dem Nürburgring in der Eifel statt.
Mercedes-Benz-Motorsportchef Norbert Haug: „Das heute war ein knapper Sieg. Wir hatten in der Box ein Problem mit Brunos Auto. Ansonsten hätten wir mit ihm einen Doppelsieg erlebt. Jamie hat mit demselben Auto bereits das dritte Mal gewonnen. Das hat es noch nie gegeben. Der Norisring liegt unseren Autos ganz gut. Wir haben eine sehr gute Traktion und kommen gut aus den Ecken raus. Heute waren wir dicht beieinander und die Audi waren sicherlich siegfähig. Alles in allem war das ein schönes Rennen mit einem guten Ergebnis für uns.“
Audi-Motorsportchef Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich: „Nach dem Qualifying-Ergebnis haben wir das Maximum im Rennen rausgeholt. Wir hatten eine sehr gute Fahrzeugperformance, gute Boxenstopps und eine gute Strategie. Ein zweiter Platz am Norisring ist gut. Wichtig ist, dass wir wieder da sind.“

Valtteri Bottas feiert ersten Sieg in der Formel 3 Euro Serie

Nach zwei Siegen beim Masters of Formula 3 hat Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) auf dem 2,3 Kilometer langen Norisring endlich seinen ersten Sieg in der Formel 3 Euro Serie errungen. Der Finne, der im vergangenen Jahr bester Rookie der Euro Serie war, wurde von Marco Wittmann (Signature) und Edoardo Mortara (Signature) auf das Siegerpodest begleitet. Mortara bleibt nach seiner siebten Podiumsplatzierung in diesem Jahr in der Gesamtwertung weiterhin vorne.
Erster Führender war für wenige Meter António Félix da Costa (Motopark Academy), dann übernahm Roberto Merhi (Mücke Motorsport) Rang eins. Wenig später wurde der Spanier von Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix) verdrängt, der bis zur 21. Runde vorne lag. Valtteri Bottas zog an ihm vorbei; auch Wittmann und Mortara konnte der Brite nicht aufhalten. Sims wurde schließlich als Vierter abgewinkt. Im Kampf um den zweiten Platz nutzte Wittmann kurz zuvor einen Fehler von Mortara, als der Italiener leicht mit Alexander Sims kollidierte. Nach spannenden Duellen um Rang fünf setzte sich schließlich Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) durch. Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) eroberte als bester Rookie den sechsten Rang.
Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): „Es fühlt sich gut an, endlich auch das erste Rennen in der Formel 3 Euro Serie gewonnen zu haben. Das nächste Ziel ist nun, auch einen Lauf am Samstag zu gewinnen. Mein Auto war heute etwas besser als gestern und auch ich bin heute besser gefahren.“
Marco Wittmann (Signature): „Mit meinen beiden zweiten Plätzen an diesem Wochenende bin ich glücklich. Das Rennen heute hat Spaß gemacht. Als Edoardo und Alexander Sims leicht kollidierten, konnte ich die Chance nutzen und an beiden vorbeiziehen.“
Edoardo Mortara (Signature): „Ich hatte heute ein paar Probleme mit der Bremse. Ich denke, dass ich mit dem dritten Platz einfach zufrieden sein muss. Ich muss mich außerdem bei Alexander Sims entschuldigen. Ich wollte ihn gar nicht angreifen, aber meine Räder blockierten und ich konnte die Berührung mit ihm nicht mehr verhindern.“

Briton takes fifth pole of the year ahead of Eng and Stoneman

Championship leader Jolyon Palmer secured his fifth pole of the 2010 campaign with a commanding performance in the second qualifying session in the Algarve.

Dean Stoneman had held top spot after going out early on fresh rubber, but his provisional pole time always looked slightly fragile and so it proved as Palmer hooked up a fantastic lap to finish more than two tenths clear of his fellow Briton.

"It’s great – I’m really enjoying the track," said Palmer. "I was very confident coming in to today, I had good pace in the race yesterday and obviously pole as well, I knew I could do a good job so I just put my head down and concentrated on making the best of the boost lap and it worked!"

A resurgent Philipp Eng looked to be the only driver capable of toppling Palmer, but he eventually had to settle for second. Unfortunately for the Austrian, second will become 12th for this afternoon’s race after he was handed a ten-place grid penalty by the stewards for an incident with Stoneman in Saturday’s contest.

Eng and Stoneman were both happy with their performance however, after qualifying only sixth and ninth in the opening qualifying session. Both drivers admitted to making positive changes to their respective cars ahead of qualifying, and Stoneman in particular is confident of challenging for the top step of the rostrum this afternoon.

"We changed the car last night," said Stoneman. "We sat down with the engineer – it wasn’t anything major, just a slight little tweak and obviously that made all the difference this morning.

"I’m good at keeping the car consistent, but we knew the car wasn’t 100% – hopefully now we’ve solved the problem. It will be the same tactic as always, going all out for victory."
Eng’s penalty promotes Nicola De Marco and the impressive Benjamin Lariche to the second row, which is the Frenchman’s best ever qualifying position, having recorded a previous best of tenth at Silverstone.

Belgian Benjamin Bailly fell short of Lariche by just 0.010s, and Dutchman Kelvin Snoeks will line-up alongside the Zolder race winner on row three. British duo Jack Clarke and Will Bratt will be slightly disappointed to have qualified in eighth and ninth having shown front-running pace yesterday, whilst Mihai Marinescu rounded out the top ten – although he will start from ninth alongside Russia’s Ivan Samarin.

The final F2 race of the Portimão weekend takes place at 1:05pm. The official Formula Two website will provide live video streaming, text commentary, results and reports.
