Alex Palerm: PREPARADO PARA UNA DURA TEMPORADA

MULLER’S FIRST TEST WITH CHEVROLET

2008 FIA WTCC champion Yvan Muller made his first appearance behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Cruze earlier this week, at Valencia’s Circuito Ricardo Tormo.
The Chevrolet WTCC team successfully completed the two-day testing session held on Monday and Tuesday. Despite Spain being hit by bad weather, conditions were excellent for testing on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Yvan Muller and Rob Huff carried out an intense programme, aimed at testing different balance solutions and optimizing set-ups.
Chevrolet’s new recruit Yvan Muller, proved he is already perfectly integrated in his new team and completely at ease with the Cruze, despite having discovered the car only very recently.
"I am still discovering the Cruze but can already tell it is a car with an excellent basis and a good potential for further growth. The team looks extremely professional and I am very pleased with the way we are working here in Valencia," Muller commented.
Chevrolet will be testing again next week, on 20th and 21st January, at Portimão, where Alain Menu and Yvan Muller will be sharing driving duties.

SEAT TO SUPPORT CUSTOMER TEAMS
SEAT Sport will not take part in the 2010 FIA WTCC; however the Spanish car manufacturer announced that SEAT Sport will give maximum support to the drivers who will be competing in the León TDI and the fuel-powered León FSI cars.
Jaime Puig, SEAT Sport Director explained: "After achieving all possible successes in the WTCC, we are now going to focus all our efforts on customer sports in different championships, such as the WTCC. We are always eager to win when a SEAT is on the track and to do so, SEAT Sport will provide all of our customers with the necessary technical support."
Dominik Hoberg, SEAT Communications Director, added: "SEAT will continue with a noteworthy presence in motor sports in 2010, with a team of highly qualified professionals of which we are particularly proud of, but the company will have a different approach as regards to its motor sports activity. The presence of our cars in different championships and countries will continue to be a major value to strengthen our brand image."

MICHEL NYKJÆR TO RACE FOR SUNRED
Reigning Danish Touring Car champion Michel Nykjær will take part in the 2010 FIA WTCC at the wheel of a SEAT León run by SUNRED Engineering.
During the latest seasons the 30-year old Dane emerged as one of the most successful touring car drivers in Europe, clinching two Danish Touring Car titles (2007 and 2009) and twice winning the FIA European Touring Car Cup (2007 and 2008) in SEAT León and Chevrolet Lacetti cars.
Nykjær, who is sponsored by Pole Position Denmark and Valvoline International, has recently driven the SUNRED car in a private test, with excellent results.
"The SEAT León is a fantastic car. SUNRED and SEAT Sport have very close relationships and I am confident that they can help me to reach the very top. My goal is to win the Independents‘ Trophy in 2010, which I consider possible in spite of the tough competition," Nykjær said.

D’ASTE RETURNS TO PROTEAM
Stefano D’Aste will return to Proteam Motorsport for the 2010 FIA WTCC season. The Italian driver previously raced for the team directed by Valmiro Presenzini Mattoli in 2005, 2006 and 2008, but spent the 2007 and 2009 seasons with Wiechers-Sport.
"I am very pleased with our agreement. With D’Aste back in the team we can look at the next season with high expectations," said Presenzini.
"I am really happy I have received this offer from Proteam. We have managed to find a deal and we have the same goal: achieving the best possible results without wasting money," D’Aste stated.
The team is currently negotiating to sign their second driver, whose name will be unveiled soon.

David Salom: PILOTO OFICIAL TRIUMPH

Superleague Formula by Sonangol champion set to net one million euro prize money in 2010

Superleague Formula by Sonangol will offer the biggest prize fund in European motor sport next season with the league champions set to pocket a hefty €1 million. On top of that, runners-up will receive a cool €500,000 with third place taking home €250,000.
But that’s not all. In total, over €5 million will be dished out throughout 2010 as the football-themed championship continues to offer fans and teams alike a unique take on motor sport. Moreover, Superleague Formula by Sonangol is also in negotiations to offer the 2010 champion a prize test drive with a top Formula 1 team.

The popular Super Final concept, a five lap dash for cash at the end of race two on Sundays, returns for a second season with €100,000 again going to the winners at each of the 12 rounds. Unlike in 2009 however, prize money will be awarded to all half-dozen finalists meaning that for the first time, fourth to sixth stand to win a share of €55,000, with second and third receiving €75,000 and €50,000 respectively, as they did in ‘09. It’s therefore possible for one driver to amass a staggering €2.2 million should they win all 12 Super Finals throughout the season!

Meanwhile, the existing format of two 44 minute, plus one lap races will remain for 2010.
This significantly increased winners’ purse, not to mention the recently-announced 12-round calendar – a 100% increase over last season – demonstrates just how far Superleague Formula by Sonangol has come since its first race just two and a half years ago as it bids to become a genuine alternative to other single seater formula.
Superleague Formula’s Competition Director Robin Webb said: “The new prize fund offers drivers and teams an even greater incentive to top the Superleague Formula by Sonangol table come November. I can’t think of anything else in Europe that offers this level of prize money for the winners, not to mention for individual races as in the Super Final’s case. All in all, the series really does now offer drivers the chance to earn a living from motor sport, something that’s not possible in single seater racing outside of Formula 1.”
The opening fixture of the 2010 Superleague Formula by Sonangol campaign kicks off at Silverstone on April 3/4.

12 races on the 2010 Superleague Formula schedule

Superleague Formula will visit a host of new countries and venues in 2010 as part of an expanded calendar. Despite a number of changes to the provisional schedule revealed back in October, the football-themed championship’s calendar does still feature a dozen dates.
Indeed, next season’s fixtures represent a 100% increase compared to 2009 in line with the series’ four year plan set out before the very first Superleague Formula race in 2008. For the first time, three countries welcome multiple races with Britain, Spain and Germany hosting two each. In addition, the series welcomes at least six new circuits to the schedule.

The season kicks off at a new-to-Superleague venue, Silverstone, on April 3/4 in what is the first of two UK rounds scheduled, while the expanded calendar means that the championship will start nearly three months earlier than in 2009.
Another exciting new circuit – Assen – lies in wait for the teams and drivers in May, before moving on to 2009’s season curtain raiser – France’s former F1 venue – Magny-Cours, the following weekend.
Spain’s Jarama is next up three weeks later before the series travels north-east for a Germanic double-header, firstly to the historic Nurburgring before moving on to Oschersleben, the first of three rounds in what promises to be a busy July.
It’s then on to Zolder, back for a third straight year, on the 17/18 before Brands Hatch replaces Donington Park at the end of the month. A well-deserved month-long break is followed up with a trip to Adria in Italy on September 4/5 with Estoril’s date moved back two weeks to the 18/19.
Monza retains its place in the first week of October ahead of a venue returning to the calendar – Jerez – which will stage the penultimate round on November 13/14. An as-yet unnamed circuit will then play host to the Superleague Formula season finale.
Superleague Formula Competition´s Director Robin Webb, said: “Although we’ve had to make some changes in the last few weeks, I’m extremely happy with the new schedule. There’s a great mix of circuits with some existing and ex-F1 venues supplemented by regional tracks which are ideal given their location. Jarama’s proximity to Madrid for instance allowed local Atletico fans the chance to come along and support their team this year, a factor which helped attract 30,000 people. With more established drivers also taking an interest in Superleague, I’m confident that 2010 will prove a vintage season.”
“We are still looking at one or two non-European rounds at the end of the year. We are getting offers from outside of Europe, and our two major targets are the Middle East and South America.”
“We already have football clubs on board, but we are open to people approaching us with a new club.”
Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of MotorSport Vision, added: “I’m delighted that Brands Hatch will host Superleague Formula next season, and it’s fantastic to add another prestigious single seater series to the calendar alongside the FIA Formula Two Championship. The Superleague cars are even more powerful than the A1GP cars and with their V12 engines sound absolutely amazing. They are impressively big cars too so with the reverse grids it will be a fabulous spectacle for fans of motorsport and football alike.”
Philippe Guillaume, board member of the Magny-Cours Circuit, said: “I congratulate Superleague Formula for the excellent progress made in developing this original, fan friendly discipline which has now consolidated its position in the international motorsport market. The French round on 22-23 May at Magny-Cours, which last year was the only French circuit to express an interest in the formula, has been made, taking into account our requirements. I would like to thank the organization for having taken into account our two wishes to have the French race on a date close to the end of the French Ligue 1 championship and before of the World Cup in South Africa.

£100,000 F2 scholarship prize for 2010 FPA Champion

£100,000 F2 scholarship prize for 2010 FPA Champion

MotorSport Vision announces the largest prize in British Motorsport

FPA_1 FPA

The 2010 Formula Palmer Audi Championship is now launched and offers young drivers an opportunity to win the biggest prize in British motorsport, as this year’s champion will receive a remarkable £100,000 scholarship prize towards a drive in the 2011 FIA Formula Two Championship.

As well as offering a huge financial reward for the 2010 champion, series organiser MotorSport Vision has further enhanced its prize offerings this season to include an official Formula Two test for the top six finishers in this year’s FPA championship.

MotorSport Vision Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer said: “Clearly the current economic climate continues to be challenging and our philosophy with both FPA and F2 is to provide exceptional affordability, which has never been more important.  Whoever wins the 2010 FPA Championship will be an outstanding talent, most deserving of progressing to F2 en route to their F1 dream, and I wanted to have a championship prize that was going to make a real difference to that driver’s chance of progressing their career.  With our record £100,000 scholarship prize, the cost of a Formula Two season for the FPA championship winner is likely to be around just £185,000, which is an incredibly low sum for an F1 feeder championship.

“Once our 2010 FPA champion is in F2 he will in turn have the chance to challenge for the title and the stunning reward of a test with the Williams F1 team, to help enable him to achieve his goal of a Formula One race drive.”

The 2010 Formula Palmer Audi Championship will take place over 20 rounds at seven UK circuits. Highlights include an outing on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit supporting the British F3 and GT Championships, along with a four race format for the season finale at Silverstone in October. The full calendar will be announced shortly.

Other enhancements for FPA include the installation of new onboard video cameras to all vehicles to aid driver performance analysis.  Jonathan Palmer said:  “We have already pioneered on board cameras in F2 with the drivers being able to have access to all their footage within minutes of a session ending.  Our F2 drivers have found this to be of great benefit in developing their skills.  As part of our commitment for FPA drivers to have the best learning opportunities at the lowest cost we are now extending this opportunity to them.”

The 2010 Formula Palmer Audi Championship costs just £59,500 +VAT and applications for drives are now being considered.

8 Hours of the Castellet: tickets on sale!

The first race of the Le Mans Series 2010 season will be held on the Castellet circuit, in the south of France, on 9, 10 and 11 April. This circuit, at the same time ultra modern and firmly rooted in the history of motor sports which has just reopened its doors to the public, has welcomed the Official Tests of the Series since 2004 and will do so again in 2010 on 7 & 8 March.

For an exceptional race, an exceptional format! The opening of the season will not be done with the usual 1000 Km schema (or 6 hours), but will last 8 hours with a late morning start and an arrival at sunset around 7pm.

Note that this round will award the same number of points as a 6 hour race, only races 50% longer than the usual 1000Km distance count double.

The new expanded partnership includes extensive on-site branding, hospitality as well as TV coverage of the FIA WTCC on Eurosport TV channels and worldwide online visibility on Eurosport’s and FIA WTCC’s websites.

In addition, MONROE will also be the Event Presenting Partner of the Race of Belgium (Zolder, 20 June 2010) and of the Race of Czech Republic (Brno, 1 August 2010).

On top of the sponsorship package, MONROE will present a brand new prestigious award in 2010: the "MONROE PERFORMER" that will be given at each WTCC round to both factory and independent drivers who have recorded the fastest lap times.

"Monroe is a very special partner for us, as it has been very active on WTCC in the past years. We are delighted to welcome Monroe back with such a strong commitment that underlines its loyalty to and trust in the continuous development of the WTCC brand," said Jacques Raynaud, Vice-Chairman of Eurosport Group and Eurosport Events. "This cooperation will also enable Monroe to benefit from Eurosport’s powerful multimedia platform, on-air, online and through event sponsorship," he continued.

"WTCC has been an excellent marketing and communication platform for both MONROE and its customers since 2007. Following the pause we felt it appropriate to take in 2009 due to the economic environment, we are delighted to invest again in our WTCC partnership," said Alex Gelbcke, Vice President and General Manager Aftermarket Europe for Tenneco which manufacturers and markets Monroe branded suspension worldwide. "The demanding performance requirements and high quality standards of the Championship and its fans worldwide are values that are extremely well aligned with those of the Monroe brand," he added.

The 2010 FIA WTCC will be visiting twelve different countries over four continents, and will resume in Brazil on 7 March for its sixth season.

M-SPORT TO JOIN INTERCONTINENTAL RALLY CHALLENGE

M-Sport, the team that has run Ford’s factory rally activities since 1997, is to enter the Intercontinental Rally Challenge this year, which allows any Driver in a Ford car to score points in the Drivers and in the Manufacturers classification for both the main IRC series and the IRC 2WD Cup.
Consequently, the number of represented brands on the IRC will rise to eight for the 2010 season, with Ford drivers joining Abarth, Honda, Peugeot, Proton, Ralliart, Skoda and Subaru among the ranks of the IRC competitors. Five of them, including Ford, will be represented by state-of-the-art Super 2000 machinery.
M-Sport will make its IRC debut on the Monte Carlo Rally from January 19-23, with an entry for its star driver Mikko Hirvonen from Finland in the all-new Ford Fiesta S2000. In addition, a number of private clients are lining up entries with the brand new Ford Fiesta, which first appeared on the IRC as zero car on the RAC MSA Rally of Scotland last year.
The two-wheel drive variants of the Ford Fiesta are also expected to figure prominently on the IRC 2WD Cup.
Malcolm Wilson, the Managing Director of M-Sport, commented: "Joining the IRC allows us to offer our customers the chance to make the most out of their participation on the series, as well as the opportunity to showcase our products in new markets. Initial testing with the Ford Fiesta S2000 has gone extremely well, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing our car make its competition debut with Mikko Hirvonen in Monte Carlo later this month."
Marcello Lotti, the General Manager of the IRC, added: "We’re extremely happy to welcome M-Sport, one of the most successful and prestigious teams in the history of rallying, to the IRC family. With this important news, the 2010 IRC season promises to be the most exciting we have experienced so far, with breathtakingly close competition for all the spectators, whether watching the action on-site or live on TV."

Formula BMW Europe Rennkalender 2010.
