HUFF WINS POLE IN QUALIFYING DRAMA
Robert Huff took pole position in a dramatic final qualifying session of the season. Andy Priaulx took second and Augusto Farfus third. Both SEAT title contenders, Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini, had huge crashes in Q2 and will line up seventh and eighth respectively if their cars can be repaired.
Q1 – As expected in such a crucial qualifying, the teams hit the track in groups to benefit from slipstreaming.
D’Aste was the first to make a mistake and did so after the Solitude Esses. He hit the wall and his car stayed on the track for the remainder of the session. Meanwhile, Yvan had a spell at the top while Huff was also on the pace. Farfus was sitting tenth before he and Priaulx had a hot lap and the Brazilian took himself to eighth and the Briton to sixth. A final surge by team SEAT saw all five cars in Q2, however Rydell’s car suffered engine problems at the end of session and stopped on the track. The session ended in drama as James Thompson smashed into the back of D’Aste’s stationary car. He was taken to hospital for check-ups.
Zanardi and Larini narrowly missed out on Q2 appearances. Tom Coronel was the fastest Independent taking 13th on the grid followed by rival Porteiro 14th and local man Couto 16th.
Q2 – Within five minutes, two of the championship fighters had crashed. Tarquini and Muller were in close contact when they encountered the oil left from Thompson’s earlier collision and it sent them spinning. The cars were both too damaged to continue and Muller was also taken to hospital for check-ups. Menu was behind the SEAT duo and also obtained damage. Although the team tried to make the Cruze track-worthy in time he could not clock a lap time. As the night was falling, Huff completed a lap of 2:32.141 that ousted Priaulx and Farfus to second and third, while Gené took fourth ahead of Monteiro and Müller.
Qualifying results remain suspended pending the Data Logging System checks and fuel analysis.
Check and analysis results will be available tomorrow in the late morning.
UPDATES ON INJURED DRIVERS‘ CONDITIONS
James Thompson, Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller were all sent to the Macau hospital for clinical checks after their crashes during today’s qualifying session.
All examinations and scans were clear and the three drivers were discharged.
They will be checked again by the FIA doctor tomorrow at 17.00 in the circuit’s medical centre to be cleared for racing on Sunday.

2010 FIA Formula Two Championship Announced
The successful maiden season of the FIA Formula Two Championship saw Andy Soucek
crowned the first F2 champion for 25 years with a dominant performance that his rivals
recognised was well deserved.
To build on that success, series organiser MotorSport Vision is pleased to announce that it is
working closely with the FIA and Williams F1 in proposing a number of significant advances
for the 2010 FIA Formula Two Championship, to ensure that the championship continues to
provide the revolutionary combination of optimum performance, professionalism and equality
at an exceptionally low cost.
As in 2009, the eventual champion will again receive a full test with the Williams F1 team at
the end of the season.
The 2010 calendar has been expanded from eight to nine events, with two races to be held at
each event to give a total of 18 races for the championship. Eight rounds of the F2
championship will accompany the FIA World Touring Car Championships European events,
together with the Moroccan round at Marrakech. F2s season will open with a major Formula
Two headlining event at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
All races will be televised live by Eurosport, the worlds foremost sports broadcaster, whose
network reaches 69 countries across Europe and Asia. In 2009 more than three million
people on average watched live coverage of F2 events and this will increase in 2010.
MSV has been eager to ensure the price of F2 remains uniquely inexpensive, representing
extraordinary value despite car specification upgrades and the addition of a further race
weekend. The 2010 FIA Formula Two Championship season will therefore cost £275,000
(300,000*) + VAT. Entries are now open for the grid of 25 cars which is expected to be
rapidly filled.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive, MotorSport Vision commented:
"When the FIA announced in September 2008 that MSV had won the tender to design and
build a fleet of new Formula Two cars and operate the championship we knew we faced an
enormous challenge to get 24 cars on the grid for the first race at Valencia.
Williams F1 did an outstanding job designing our new JPH1 F2 car under the direction of
Patrick Head. Our MSV F2 team headed by Giles Butterfield has worked phenomenally hard
this year to both build the cars and run them so professionally in F2’s first year.
There is no question F2 has been a great success already. We have had a full grid from the
start to the end of the season. The unprecedented affordability of F2 has meant we have had
drivers from 15 different nationalities competing. F2 has been fiercely competitive with eight
different drivers winning races. Most importantly F2 has enabled the outstanding talent of
Andy Soucek to prove his ability by winning the championship and underline his claim to an
F1 drive.
However 2009 has just provided us with a solid base from which to aggressively enhance F2.
Key areas that will be addressed for 2010 include a target of achieving 100% car reliability,
greater car performance and team operational efficiency. Our championship will expand to 18
races and yet the cost will still be kept at an extraordinarily low £275,000.
Early indications are that the 2010 grid will fill quickly with a high quality field of drivers and
that our champion next year will be another talent destined for F1."
Patrick Head, Director of Engineering, Williams F1 said:
"I am pleased to see that the F2 championship in 2009 has been successful and has been
won by the driver who not only had the best speed over the season, but who also was
tactically ahead of his competition.
Jonathan Palmer is never one to stand still, and amongst many other improvements wishes
to raise the performance of the car by working on all the major performance controlling
parameters; weight, power, tyre grip, downforce and drag.
2009 champion Andy Soucek will be driving for a full day of our permitted three days testing
allowance for young drivers in December, and I am sure he will perform well. Formula Two
has made a mark in 2009 as a competitive championship, professionally run with equal cars,
but everything can be improved and we intend that this shall be the case for F2 in 2010."
Formula Two Testing Information
Formula Two is running a winter testing programme in Spain and Portugal in December. The
tests are open to any driver, subject to F2 approval:
Valencia, Spain 3/4 December 2009
Portimão, Portugal 11/12 December 2009
1 day: 9,500 + VAT
2 days: 17,500 + VAT
4 days: 30,000 + VAT
Drivers competing in the 2010 F2 championship will participate in five official group test days
(three pre-season and two mid-season).
FARFUS-MÜLLER TOP TEST IN MACAU
BMW Team Germany’s duo of Augusto Farfus and Jörg Müller set the pace in today’s test at Macau.
In the first half of the session all drivers were very cautious in getting to know the grip on the track. Tom Coronel was the first to top the time sheet with a lap of 2:35.871, which was then improved by Gabriele Tarquini (2:34.585), Yvan Muller (2:34.281), Müller (2:34.216) and Rickard Rydell (2:33.765).
Halfway through the session Farfus and Müller clocked the two fastest laps for good: 2:32.747 for the Brazilian and 2:33.333 for the German. Afterwards, only Robert Huff’s Chevrolet managed to close the gap as the Briton completed a lap of 2:33.729 and climbed to third.
Championship leaders Tarquini (2:34.069) and Muller (2:34.049) were placed in seventh and fifth positions respectively, while Coronel improved to 2:34.178 and emerged as the fastest of the Independents. James Thompson’s best try was 2:34.773 that placed his LADA Priora in 13th.
A few drivers had some moments. Lei Kit Meng went straight at the Lisbõa bend and later spun at Dona Maria but managed to avoid the walls. Which was not the case for Stefano D’Aste and Jaap van Lagen who stopped at Matsuya and Fishermen’s respectively.
The WTCC competitors will hit the track again tomorrow for two 30-minute practice sessions (at 8.45 and 12.15 local time) and the extended 45-minute qualifying (Q1 from 15.50 to 16.20 ; Q2 from 16.25 to 16.40).
Farfus and Coronel were the fastest drivers (overall and independent) in Macau test
WTCC TEAM WIN MACAU CHALLENGE
The FIA WTCC team won the MGP challenge that took place yesterday at Macau’s Fisherman’s Wharf as promotional act of the racing weekend.
Tom Coronel (captain), Tom Boardman, Augusto Farfus, Robert Huff, Tiago Monteiro and Jaap van Lagen made up the six-person crew that defeated three other teams of Formula 3 drivers, bike riders and representatives of the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf.
The challenge consisted in a course with four obstacles: Heritage (completing a puzzle of famous Macau landmarks), Driving Test (handling a remote-control toy car around a scale map of the Guia circuit), Best Foot Forward (jumping in the squares of a ladder laid out on the ground), Dim Sum (bringing to the finish line two piles of Dim Sum baskets without dropping it).
The FIA WTCC completed the challenge with the fastest time from F3 and Bikers, but not without casualties. While crossing the line, Coronel threw the Dim Sum baskets in the air and was hit by one of them, receiving a couple of scratches on his lip and forehead.
The FIA WTCC celebrate their victory in the MGP Challenge
A NEW LIVERY FOR TOM CORONEL’S CAR
Tom Coronel’s SUNRED Engineering-run SEAT León will sport a brand new livery in Macau, as the Dutch driver got backing from Hong Kong-based company Noble Group.
This is the third different livery for Coronel during the current season, after the orange-and-white of SEAT Netherlands and the dark blue of McGregor’s.
"I actually have to thank McGregor’s and Noble Group, because without them I would have been forced to miss Japan and Macau, losing my chances to win the Independents‘ title," Coronel said.

RACMSA Rally of Scotland Preview
Scotland promises a fine finale to the 2009 IRC
Final preparations for the inaugural RACMSA Rally of Scotland this weekend (November 19-21) have reached fever pitch, with the teams, crews and organisers readying themselves for a true winter festival. The final round of this years Intercontinental Rally Challenge is set to be all-action in the forests around Perth and Stirling.
The rally route takes in more than 1000km over the three days, with 225km of timed special stages. Starting at the fabled Scone Palace, where the kings of Scotland were once crowned, Thursday night will see two special spectator stages in the grounds of the historic Perthshire venue. A full days action on Friday will incorporate some of Scotlands most famous and demanding special stages, many of which have lain dormant for over 20 years since the heyday of the great RAC Rally.
Throughout the day the crews will tackle Craigvinean, Blackcraig, Errochty and Drummond Hill stages, where a carpet of pine needles guarantees minimal grip for the front-runners. The greatest challenge of all will come on Saturday, when the staggering 33km blast through Loch Ard will close the morning leg and will return as a rousing finale to the event itself.
Newly-crowned series champion Kris Meeke starts as favourite but has had a testing start to his home event, after damaging the suspension on his Peugeot UK-entered 207 S2000 on the official test. While there was some dismay in the headlines, Meeke himself brushed off the incident: It was an innocuous-enough thing, he said. I clipped a log which was hidden in the grass about three inches off the road and that dinked a steering arm.
More serious was the engine failure that afflicted his team-mate for this weekend, 22-year-old Adam Gould. The Englishman, who was nominated to drive the BFGoodrich Drivers Team Peugeot 207 S2000 by a panel of expert journalists, had his all-important familiarisation with the car truncated by engine failure. His total experience of the car which is very different from the Group N machine he campaigned in this years British championship has been limited to a little over 50km.
Nevertheless the youngster remains undaunted: I just can’t wait to get to the start line, he said. The car is absolutely fantastic – just amazing! The noise is sensational.
With six manufacturers and the cream of British-based talent preparing to go head-to-head in this final round of the IRC, many big names will be vying for a shot at beating Meeke on home soil. None more so than Meekes career-long rival Guy Wilks, who has competed with Proton on this years IRC but switches to a Skoda UK-entered Fabia S2000 in Scotland.
It was the Fabia that ran Meeke closest to the title in this years IRC points battle, with the works drivers Jan Kopecky and Juho Hanninen both claiming rally victories. On home ground and at the head of Skoda UKs first international event since its all-girl team on the 1997 RAC Rally, Wilks is ready to take the fight to Meeke.
"The car looks mega in Skoda UK colours – and it drives as good as it looks! Wilks said. "It inspires confidence in you as a driver. It has loads of grip and we felt right at home straight away. I can’t wait for the rally to start now."
Taking Wilkss seat in the Proton Satria Neo S2000 is none other than former British and Asia Pacific rally champion, Alister McRae. The younger brother of 1995 world champion, the late Colin McRae, Alister has flown back from the Rally of China with hours to spare in order to join in the first international series to visit his native soil for 14 years.
Adding further spice to the line-up are two newly-crowned champions of Britain Irelands Keith Cronin, who has a works-prepared Abarth Grande Punto S2000 and Scotland, in the form of local hero David Bogie in his familiar Ralliart Lancer Evo IX. Leading Hondas assault on the 2WD Cup and hoping to repeat his overall points finish on this summers Rally Russia is Estonian hotshoe Kaspar Koitla.
All the 60 entrants in this weekends event must brave the elements both night and day. The weather will be crucial for tyre choices and strategy in Scotland and heavy rain is set to be the main feature of the event. An absolute deluge forecast until Thursday nights opening stage is completed. Friday will however dawn brighter and without rain but it is nevertheless set to return for Saturdays closing action.
Ticket sales to the spectator stages is undiminished despite the worst that autumn can throw at the event, and the RACMSA Rally of Scotland will be a national celebration led by First Minister Alex Salmond and three-time Formula One world champion Sir Jackie Stewart. For fans wishing to catch the action at home there will be a premier TV experience including four hours of live coverage across the Eurosport global platform with Australia joining the Eurosport Asia Pacific network coverage for the first time.
With British Eurosport viewers benefitting from the addition of 2001 world championship-winning co-driver Robert Reid to the commentary team, its clear that a high quality high octane finale to the 2009 season is in store. The stage is set and the contenders are ready: let the inaugural RACMSA Rally of Scotland begin…

Formel-3-Elite beim Weltfinale in Macau
Streckenlänge: 6,21 Kilometer
Rundenrekord: 2:11,744 min / Marko Asmer 2007
Distanz: 15 Runden
Sieger 2008: Keisuke Kunimoto
