FIA WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 6: 6 HOURS OF BAHRAIN (28 & 29 September 2012) NELSON PANCIATICI WANTS A VICTORY
It is on the Bahrain International Circuit, in Sakhir, south of the capital Manama, that Nelson Panciatici takes part in the next challenge of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Not making the podium, or possibly even winning in Sao Paulo, Nelson wants a victory to confirm the performance he produced in that race.
Silverstone ended with a superb podium and the G-DRIVE RACING BY SIGNATECH NISSAN team dominated free practice in Sao Paulo before Nelson Panciatici set the third best times in the qualifiers with his ORECA 03 NISSAN equipped with hard DUNLOP tyres. Their performance places them at the same level as the best teams in the highly competitive LMP2 class where Nelson Panciatici and his co-drivers, Pierre Ragues and Roman Rusinov, are among the favourites!
The ORECA 03 NISSAN #26 has all the focus of the team managed by Philippe Sinault, and Nelson Panciatici is ready to face the competition on the Bahraini circuit:
Nelson: "The level of performance we achieved in Sao Paulo has certainly given us more confidence for Bahrain and we really want to prove it with a victory! The whole team deserves it considering the amount of work that has been put in since the start of the season and I will do my utmost to make it happen. I don’t know the Bahrain circuit but I have watched a lot of videos. It looks technical but the practice plan we have should allow us to make our mark. I trust Damien, my engineer, to find the right technical solution that will give us a little bit of an edge. As usual, competition will be tough and we have to take each race as it comes because that’s the best way to get a good result!"
The whole G-DRIVE RACING BY SIGNATECH NISSAN team is in the same frame of mind and their boss, Philippe SINAULT, has his eye on victory before the end of the season:
"We were among the fastest on the track in Sao Paulo. The car had great performance, without the incident in the warm-up we would definitely have had a podium if not better. We even set the fastest time in the race one hour before the end. Our objective now, and in view of the performance since Silverstone, is to get on the podium again and even get a victory before the end of the season."
The battle for victory in the LMP2 class will be tightly fought out and the drivers of the G-DRIVE RACING BY SIGNATECH NISSAN team will most certainly be key players!

David Salom: PROBLEMAS MECÁNICOS CONDICIONAN EL RESULTADO EN PORTIMAO

MULLER AND HUFF ON EQUAL POINTS AFTER USA

WTCC drivers treated American fans to a breathtaking show on the occasion of the championships first visit to Sonoma and the United States.
Both races were eventful. Yvan Muller and Rob Huff shared the victory honours and their results also made the fight for the world championship as hot as ever. The two Chevrolet drivers are now on equal points with only six races to go.
It is easy to predict that the battle will go to the wire at Macau once again.
If Huff was the happiest man in the paddock for having matched Mullers point tally on top of the Drivers Championship, Norbert Michelisz too had reasons to rejoice. The young Hungarian was a pain in the neck for the Chevrolet cars in both races and eventually claimed two podium results and stretched his leadership in the Yokohama Trophy.
Gabriele Tarquini and Alain Menu tried their best and never gave up. However, their hopes of achieving great results vanished when they collided at the start of the first race. The Italian had the consolation of a podium in Race 2, while the Swiss saw his hopes of staying in contention for the title fight seriously jeopardized.
Among those who contributed to entertain the Californian fans a few deserve to be mentioned: Tom Coronel completed two great recoveries from 20th on the grids to eight and fifth; Alex MacDowall chased the top drivers in both races; Tiago Monteiro finished twice in the points on his last appearance with Sunred before switching to Honda; Tom Boardman scored points in both races; Franz Engstler lulled into the dream of winning Race 2 before Muller brusquely woke him up
The championship takes a one month break, while cars and parts are being shipped to Japan. Rounds 19 and 20 will take place at Suzuka on October 21.

KTM X-BOW BATTLE: Highlights vom Red Bull Ring!

MENU STEALS POLE POSITION FROM TARQUINI

Photo: Nate Jacobson
With a last gasp lap, Alain Menu claimed his fourth pole position of the season beating Gabriele Tarquini by two tenths of a second.
The Italian driver had set the benchmark with a very fast first lap and felt like he had wrapped pole position for good. However, the Chevrolet team managed to prepare their cars in time for a second attempt that eventually Menu exploited stealing the pole at the very last moment.
Tarquini and the Lukoil Racing Team tried to react, but when the SEAT was ready to leave the pit lane, it was too late for a last flying lap.
Although they also managed to improve, Yvan Muller and Rob Huff were not able to beat Tarquinis time and qualified in second and third, ahead of the two best Yokohama Trophy competitors: Norbert Michelisz and Alex MacDowall.
A few drivers were disappointed by the results, as they did not manage to advance to Q2. Tom Coronel spoiled his Q1 by spinning on new tyres, Pepe Oriola could not make any better that 18th, and Team Aon team-mates James Nash and Tom Chilton were not able to repeat the good results they have had in Practice.
Stefano DAste and Mehdi Bennani qualified tenth and ninth, meaning a full BMW front row on the reversed grid for Race 2.

MACDOWALL TOPS A SHORTENED TEST
Alex MacDowall set the fastest lap in the first outing for the WTCC drivers at Sonoma. The 30-minute test lasted only 26 minutes before being red flagged when Felice Tedeschi crashed at Turn 4.
Yvan Muller was the first one to time a significant lap of 1:49.891, ten minutes into the session. A few moment later Alain Menu improved to 1:49.373 and then Pepe Oriola moved the mark further ahead to 1:48.609.
With twelve minutes left on the clock MacDowall clocked a lap of 1:48.281 that eventually remained the fastest as the red flag shortened the session by four minutes.
Tedeschi went wide at Turn 4 and his Proteam BMW 320 TC hit the wall and rolled; the Italian newcomer had struggled from the beginning, spinning three times at Turn 2 before the crash. Despite the hard crash, Tedeschi was unscathed.
Fernando Monje set an impressive third fastest lap of 1:48.979, demoting Muller to fourth in the fastest of the Chevrolet cars. While Stefano DAste was the best of the BMW drivers, ranking eighth with a lap of 1:49.449. James Nashs Ford was timed at 1:50.270 and classified 14th.
MACDOWALL: THE RED FLAG HELPED ME
Commenting on his fastest lap, Alex MacDowall said: It was good. The track was a bit dusty and slippery. It was difficult to make one lap on the proper racing line. A lot of drivers were running wide to check the limits of the tracks. I managed to complete one good lap and set a kind of a bench mark. However I dont think it would stay the fastest until the end, because the red flag prevented the Chevrolet drivers to improve.
Tuenti Racing Team fellow Spaniards Pepe Oriola and Fernando Monje set the second and third fastest lap.
I did not use the news tyres. So Im quite happy with my second time. It has been a very good beginning to the weekend Oriola said.
And Monje echoed: I cannot complain. I did put the new tyres, but I think that my lap time was very encouraging.

US DRIVER TO RACE WITH BAMBOO AT SONOMA
Robb Holland is the first US driver to compete in the FIA World Touring Car Championship as he will drive for bamboo-engineering this weekend at Sonoma.
Holland replaces Pasquale Di Sabatino for this weekends round at Sonoma in California, and partners Alex MacDowall in the teams Chevrolet Cruze.
After being a professional cyclist for the US national team, Holland switched to car racing in 2006. Since then he established himself as a podium finisher in the SSCA World Challenge for Touring Cars, winning his first race last year at the wheel of a Volvo C30.
During the current season he is racing in the British Touring Car Championship driving a Honda Civic.
This is a very exciting weekend for me, and Im delighted to have the opportunity to join WTCC for the US event. I cant wait to get behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Cruze. This has been a last minute call-up, but Im thrilled to be given the chance to show what I can do in a competitive car with a team as strong as bamboo-engineering, Holland said.
Team Principal Richard Coleman added: This has all come together very late and has been very short notice for Rob, but were all very excited. Robb brings a lot of experience to the team and were all very much looking forward to working with him here at Sonoma this weekend.

WTCC DRIVERS MEET THE LOCAL MEDIA
Rob Huff, Alain Menu, Tom Chilton and Pepe Oriola joined WTCC General Manager Marcello Lotti as they all attended two media lunches on Wednesday and Thursday.
The events promoting the WTCC Race of USA at Sonoma took place at two elegant restaurants: the first one in San Francisco at McCormick and Culetos in Ghirardelli square, facing the Marina, the second one at the Zócalo in Sacramento.
Lotti delivered a brief welcome speech explaining why and how WTCC set up a race meeting at Sonoma.
I am especially proud to be here with you today, because the WTCC Race of USA at Sonoma is an historical event that marks the FIA World Touring Car Championships visit to the United States. To establish an event in North America has been one of our priorities in recent years. United States are an important market for car manufacturers and feature a very proud and long-standing motor-sport tradition. We are pleased to have reached this goal and bring the WTCC to Sonoma, he said.

Harald Schlegelmilch joins F2 grid for season finale
Latvian racer adds name to Monza entry list
Latvian driver Harald Schlegelmilch will make his FIA Formula Two Championship debut this weekend (28/30 September) when he joins the grid for rounds 15 and 16 at Italys famous Monza circuit.
The 24-year-old brings with him a broad range of experience beginning in 2003 with Formula Baltic before going on to sample Formula Renault 2.0, Formula BMW and Formula 3 Euro Series enjoying a number of race wins and podiums. More recently, Schlegelmilch sampled the GP2 Asia Series together with Formula Renault 3.5, with his last outing being in the 2010 in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany before being forced to sit on the sidelines.
Speaking to Formulatwo.com Schlegelmilch said: Its great to be back out racing again and I cant wait to race at Monza, a track I love and know well. I havent competed properly in single seaters since 2009 but hopefully the F2 test beforehand will help me to get up to speed quickly. Ive not set myself any goals for the weekend, Im just going to try and do the best job I can!
The final Formula Two rounds take place at Monza from 28 30 September with pre-event testing beforehand on 27 September. Full coverage, including live timing and web streaming of both races, will be available on www.formulatwo.com.
IRC champion Mikkelsen turns marathon man
Defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Andreas Mikkelsen will swap his rally boots for a pair of running shoes when he takes part in the Oslo Marathon on Saturday.
Mikkelsen regularly runs half-marathon distances during his extensive training programme for his IRC campaign but has yet to run a full marathon. Despite his reputation as a super-fit driver, the 23-year-old fears hes behind with his preparations for the event in Norways capital.
Im far, far behind schedule training for my first marathon, admits the KODA UK Motorsport driver. It was a last-minute decision I only discovered I was running the week before Barum Czech Rally Zlín, so that gave me less than one month to prepare.
My housemate, Anders, did the Oslo Marathon last year, so my main goal is to try to beat his time. He finished in just under four hours, so I have an aim of three hours 45 minutes but that will be tough because of the limited amount of training Ive done. I am in training all the time of course, but not for marathons.

New name, logo for Sliven Rally
Sliven Rally organisers have confirmed a new event name and tweaked logo for their first appearance in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge next week.
Following an exciting sponsorship agreement with Mabanol, which specialises in premium lubricants for premium performance in the automotive and industrial sectors, the event will now be known as the Mabanol Sliven Rally, while the event logo has been adjusted to incorporate the companys key involvement in the all-asphalt contest from 28-30 September.
The IRC Sliven Rally is the most significant event in Bulgarian motorsport, said Alexander Alexandrov, Managing Director of Oiltanking Bulgaria AD. As Mabanol always strives for best quality and performance of its products, as well positioning them among best performing cars and rally pilots, we feel there is a great level of synergy between what Eurosport Events and the IRC is doing for motorsport and its fans Mabanol is doing for its customers.

Flodin tries circuit racing for size
Patrik Flodin switched from his regular Petter Solberg Engineering-run M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000 to take part in the Camaro Cup motor racing series in his native Sweden recently.
Flodin is keen to build his experience of driving on Tarmac and a circuit race represents ideal preparation for his Intercontinental Rally Challenge campaign.
After retiring from his opening heat at Knutstorp following a collision with rival Freddie Magnusson, Flodin took the chequered flag in the next heat in 10th place. It was just for fun, said Flodin. It was really just the beginning and it was good experience.
Flodins best result in the IRC remains the second place he recorded on the Sibiu Rally in Romania.

Kangur back in action for Honda in Sliven
Martin Kangur will return to the IRC 2WD Cup on the Mabanol Sliven Rally in Bulgaria next week.
Kangur, from Estonia, skipped last weeks trip to Ukraine for the Prime Yalta Rally but will be back in action in Bulgaria which is hosting a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for the first time in his Catwees Honda Racing Civic Type R.
Despite Kangurs absence in Ukraine, Honda still managed a strong haul of points in the IRC 2WD Cup with local heroes Oleksiy Panov and Olexandr Yukushev finishing fifth in the two-wheel-drive category and claiming 15 IRC 2WD Cup manufacturers points.

Three questions to: Yağiz Avci
Prime Yalta Rally winner on making it big in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge
Its fair to say you havent done many rallies on Tarmac during your career, right?
We have very little experience of driving on Tarmac, rallies in Turkey are on gravel and the stages in Yalta very long and rough and it was difficult to protect your car while keeping a good pace.
What did winning the Prime Yalta Rally your first in the IRC mean to you?
Winning has been very special for us, especially because this is my first time in Yalta and I found it a very difficult event. Our main aim was to make no mistakes here. We have had no problems with the car and the tyres have been fine also. My team has done a fantastic job. We hope to come back next year and improve on our stage times.
How much did you enjoy your first Prime Yalta Rally experience?
I was surprised by the number of fans on the stages and there has been a lot of support in the service park too. The atmosphere in the centre is nice and it has been a very well organised rally.

In the spotlight: Harry Hunt
Having recently turned 24, Londoner Hunt has been a regular in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge since 2010 when he won the IRC 2WD Cup in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta R2. Hes now competing in a Citroën DS3 R3T for Iwan Evans iCars Motorsport team and impressing alongside co-driver and fellow Brit Robbie Durant with regular strong results

Focus on Team Aon in Sonoma
Team Aon have been busy in the weeks between the Brazilian round of this years World Touring Car Championship and this weekends event in California, with some extensive development on the Global Ford Focus. As the team get to grips with their first season in the worlds premier touring car championship, 2012 has been a steep learning curve for Team Aon drivers Tom Chilton and James Nash. Now with the championships first visit to Sonoma Raceway this weekend, the team face a new challenge in Fords backyard.
Weve had a really busy few weeks at Team Aon, but its nice that weve had the big breaks in between races after such a busy start to the season, said Chilton. The great thing is that now weve actually got a test car to work on during the breaks. To have a test car ready in our first year in the championship is so valuable and a testament to the hard work of the team, in what has been a very busy season.
When the British squad took to the track in Monza for its first ever WTCC track, it was following a very limited WTCC test programme with the new Ford Focus. Embracing the challenges that brought, it did nevertheless create some difficult race weekends for the Team Aon drivers. Id be lying if I said we werent struggling at the start of the year. But thats only to be expected when youre new to a championship that everyone else has been in for years, and youve had a very limited test programme. I think weve got over the hard part now though, were in much better shape with every race weekend, added Chilton.
The 2010 BTCC Independents Champion is keen to make the most of the remaining events in the 2012 season. Weve very much using these last races to prepare for the 2013 season. Were trying as many things as possible. Theres restricted testing in WTCC, so were having to do a lot of testing during the race weekends.
Since Brazil weve focused on geometry, suspension, the engine, aerodynamics and brakes. Pretty much every significant part of the car has been looked at again. Its been a lot of work for the team, but its been productive. The testing weve done has been about testing the reliability of the new parts as well as speed and improvement to set-up, and so far weve made some strong steps forward on all counts. To the credit of the boys at Arena, theyve designed, made and run new parts with no problems in a very tight time schedule.
Racing in the US brings with it its own pressures. Taking part in this years WTCC with technical support from Ford, Team Aon is far from a factory team, but still the pressure is there to do well in Fords backyard. The essence of the big US manufacturers, Ford and Chevrolet, and racing for the first time in California, it all adds up to being quite a big deal. Its an important race for all of us in the team and everyone is pushing hard to deliver the best results we can. This season has really been a learning year, and while its been hard to do that in front of a global audience, were proud that weve been putting together this fantastic Ford Focus WTCC car.
As a new addition to the WTCC calendar the Sonoma Raceway will be a new experience for all the teams, putting Team Aon on a level playing field with the rest of the teams for the first time this season. I think it will definitely help us, said Chilton. It will be new for all the teams and drivers. We saw that even in Marrakech, a circuit that WTCC had been to before, because they changed so many areas of the track, speeds and braking points changed and I dont think its any coincidence that we had our best weekend there. It will be interesting to see how quickly everyone adapts to the new challenges of Sonoma.
With the 2.5 mile long Sonoma circuit providing overtaking opportunities, and short straights amongst the undulating features, the California circuit could suit the characteristics of the Focus Mountune built engine. Weve been working a lot on track and weve always had a lot of torque, so power wise our engine should suit Sonoma, said Chilton.
Im hoping that the changes weve made will help see us though to Q2 this weekend. One things for sure. Were going to see some exciting racing on the WTCCs first visit to the US.
Teilnahme an beiden Läufen streichen.
An
große Show von Patrick Stimmeder.
Ondrej Bach ins Ziel.
Wochenendes frustriert aufgeben musste.
Oktober 2012 in Brünn statt.
Die Ergebnisse:
1. Rennen, 14. September 2012:

FIA WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 5: 6 HOURS OF SAO PAULO (14 and 15 September 2012) NELSON PANCIATICI IS EFFICIENT
The G-DRIVE RACING BY SIGNATECH team and their drivers discovered the famous Jose Carlos Pace circuit in Interlagos, Brazil and produced some fine results during practice. Nelson Panciatici made the best time in the last session. For the qualifiers, he missed pole position by just over one tenth of a second with the third best time.
Hope for victory was therefore warranted. Unfortunately, Nelson PANCIATICI took a rear collision in the warm-up lap which forced him to return to the stands to change the rear bonnet. He got back into the race with 3 laps to catch up. Nelson and his co-drivers, Pierre RAGUES and Roman RUSINOV fought valiantly to get back into fourth place before they were once again delayed with a ruptured disc brake and lost more than four minutes. Nelson PANCIATICI threw himself into a desperate chase and crossed the line in a very disappointing seventh place considering the performance put on by the full ORECA 03 NISSAN #26 team. A small compensation for Nelson, he will remain overall, for this weekend, the best performer of a lap in the LMP2 category.
Nelson: "We are disappointed with the final result because we were certainly one of the most consistent teams and our Oreca 03 Nissan was among the best tuned. Damien, our engineer, gave us an almost perfect car and it was easy to drive. Even after the incident at the start we were still in with a fight for the podium, it’s a real shame but the positive side is that we are sure today that our team driver package is able to aim for victory whatever the track, and that’s important in a category as competitive as LMP2. It bodes well for the rest of the championship. Personally, I learnt a lot again this weekend and I’m beginning to feel the traffic better, my last two relays were good and consistent. I had a great time in full attack mode from the beginning to end of my relays. When we drive single-seaters we think that you have to drive carefully in endurance, I can assure you that it’s far from that!"
Philippe Sinault: "We were fighting for fifth place in the end. It’s satisfying to see that we were still in the running all along the weekend and among the liveliest on the track. The car was very high-performance, without the incident in the warm-up with Liuzzi who came and hit us from behind and destroyed a part of the car. That stupid accident deprived us of the podium, if not more. The car was producing better and better results as the temperature fell toward the end of the race. Pierre had done his job by mid-race, Roman drove at a very high pace, and Nelson even signed the best time of the race one hour from the end. We are disappointed of course because success really was within our reach. We will now take the races as they come and try to make our mark with a victory. Since Silverstone we’ve have really stepped up in terms of performance. We definitely have one of the best driver teams and the teamwork is paying off. Bahrain, Mount Fuji and Shanghai will definitely be the stage for a lot of fights on the track. Despite the incidents this weekend, I am still confident for the coming races and I really hope that we take a victory between now and the end of the season."
The next meeting, the 6 Hours of Bahrain, will take place on September 28 and 29 on the international circuit of Sakhir which usually hosts the Formula 1.
