Romanian secures second F2 victory ahead of Bacheta and Zanella

Mihai Marinescu was the man to finally end Luciano Bacheta’s unbeaten record by securing victory during today’s (Saturday) opening Formula Two race at the Nűrburgring.

Starting from pole, the 23-year-old led from start to finish to pick up his second F2 win since Monza last year. He was followed home by championship leader Luciano Bacheta with Christopher Zanella picking up the final podium spot after a superb drive from seventh on the grid.

The Romanian led as the lights went out with Kevin Mirocha quickly getting up alongside Bacheta with the Brit just managing to hold him off around Turn 1 while the Pole slotted into P3. Just behind, a slow starting Daniel McKenzie lost his third-place grid slot to Swiss teenager Mathéo Tuscher with Zanella and Alex Fontana following closely.

At the front Marinescu tried hard to pull away but was unable to shake his mirrors of Bacheta in a repeat of the battle we saw at Silverstone back in April during the opening rounds. Meanwhile, McKenzie was coming under increasing pressure from Zanella, allowing the top four to edge away. A few laps later McKenzie was forced to succumb to the pressure of Zanella with the 2011 F2 runner-up going around the outside at Turn 1 before cutting back through Turn 3 for fifth spot.

In clear air, Zanella was then able to push and catch the back of Tuscher who in turn was right up with Mirocha. Tuscher then tried to pass around the outside of Turn 1 but Mirocha gave him no room as the two ran very wide allowing Zanella to join the fight. The three then went three-a-breast into Turn 1 soon after with somehow the three emerging in the same order, all the while allowing the leading pair to pull away.

Zanella then got the better of his fellow countryman over the start/finish straight and now turning his attention to chasing down Mirocha for the final podium spot which he did shortly after at Turn 2.

Bacheta had no reply to Marinescu’s pace though with the gap now more than three seconds, leaving the Brit to settle for second. Mirocha and Tuscher completed the top five with Fontana in sixth and Chinese racer David Zhu in seventh.

McKenzie eventually crossed the line eighth after losing out to Zhu in the closing stages while German Markus Pommer endured a difficult home event to only manage ninth. Hector Hurst continued his unbeaten points run with 10th with Plamen Kralev narrowly missing out on a points score in P11.

Speaking afterwards Marinescu said: "It feels really good! I really missed the podium at the last race so it’s nice to be back. Last year I also missed out on the podium with a difficult weekend and I feel it’s where I lost the championship so it’s great to win here and was confident I could do it."

Tomorrow’s second qualifying session gets under way at 9:00 (local time) tomorrow with full coverage and live timing on the F2 website.

Romanian keeps cool during sun-soaked session to take front row start

Mihai Marinescu kept his cool during this morning’s (Saturday) sun-soaked Formula Two qualifying session at the Nűrburgring to secure pole for today’s opening race.

The 23-year-old Romanian set his best lap late in the session to just edge out championship leader Luciano Bacheta by 0.330s, with fellow countryman Daniel McKenzie securing a personal best in third.

The sun shone bright over the 5.148km track as the 30-minute session got underway with McKenzie setting a strong early benchmark lapping in the 1:46s – significantly up on the best time from yesterday’s free practice.

Marinescu, Christopher Zanella and Alex Fontana were all looking P1 contenders too before the majority of the field pitted for fresh Yokohama tyres. Bacheta, meanwhile, stayed out on track and in clear air went even quicker than McKenzie to secure provisional pole.

Further down, German Markus Pommer, racing on home soil this weekend, and Mathéo Tuscher were still yet to set quick laps with less than 10 minutes remaining as Dino Zamparelli then went fifth with Mauro Calamia looking strong in P7, just ahead of Parthiva Sureshwaren.

At the top, Pole Kevin Mirocha then moved up to third with Fontana sliding into fourth and Tuscher still yet to set a competitive lap. A quick lap from Marinescu then put the Romanian top as Tuscher went fifth and leaving time for one more lap to improve as the top four headed to the pits. He was unable to go quicker though handing Marinescu his second pole position of the season with a time 1.5s quicker than 2011’s pole.

At the flag, Mirocha secured P4 with Tuscher and Fontana behind him and 2011 F2 runner-up Zanella in seventh. In the end Pommer could only manage eighth with David Zhu in ninth and Zamparelli completing the top 10. Calamia finished P14.

Speaking afterwards Marinescu said: "It’s a good place to start the first race. I just hope to maintain that position! It’s difficult to tell how the tyres will react today but seeing the results from yesterday’s free practice they should be ok. The wind is blowing quite hard here so it might affect the boost strategy for the race but I hope to pull out a big enough gap so no one is in my boost zone."

Today’s opening race gets underway at 13:40 (local time) with live coverage on Motors TV and the F2 website.

ALBERT COLL, con el team STC Motorsport Performance 10º, en las 24 horas de Ca’n Picafort.

El equipo aleman STC Motorsport Performance de Toni Thorsten Streicher, invitaba por segundo año consecutivo al piloto mallorquin Albert Coll, a participar en la 14ª Edicion de las 24 horas de Ca’n Picafort.

El equipo que en esta ocasion contaria con 6 pilotos entre ellos: Rick Freiheit, Daniel Ludewig, Andreas Buring, Sebastian Grunert, Eugen Mavrenko, y el mallorquin Albert Coll, empezaria la carrera con un problema mecanico grave, rotura de embrgue.

De esta manera el equipo tomaba la salida en la posicion decimo tercera, con Albert a los mandos del kart con el dorsal numero 9, y que en menos de una hora lo colocaba en una meritoria 7ª plaza.

Despues de intercambiarse posiciones, entre los pilotos del equipo, al final de la prueba terminaban en la 10ª posicion, con un balance positivo, ya que finalizar esta dura prueba de resistencia ya es un merito.

Formula Two announces new partnership with rFactor2

All 2012 JPH1B cars to feature in latest version of worldwide racing simulation

The FIA Formula Two Championship is pleased to announce a new partnership with Image Space Incorporated (ISI), makers of leading racing simulator rFactor, which will see its entire 2012 grid featured in the brand new rFactor2.

rFactor2 is the forthcoming sequel to the award winning computer racing simulation which has become the standard for a simulated racing experience. Developed by ISI, who also produced the Formula 1 titles for EA Games, the company has more than 20 years experience in the market, developing racing software used by both amateurs and professional racing teams.

Due for release later in the year, all of this seasons upgraded JPH1B F2 cars featuring new Yokohama tyres and carbon brakes will appear on the new version, with each one recreated with meticulous detail. Every aspect of the Williams designed car, from handling characteristics through to the pitch of its 500bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, have been captured, aided by Formula Twos Chief Engineer James Goodfield.

Weve spent many hours working with ISI to ensure we recreate the highly sophisticated and new-spec F2 car with the utmost accuracy, right down to the physics and the engine note, said Goodfield. Were very pleased with the results and feel confident it will provide professional racing drivers, as well as amateurs, with a simulation as close to the real thing as possible.

He added: Having all of this years cars and their liveries featured will also provide increased exposure to our drivers and their sponsors thanks to the global following of rFactor.

Luis Salom: G.P. Francia – Carrera

Este pasado fin de semana se ha celebrado el Gran Premio de Francia, con la participación del balear Luis Salom, que no ha podido concluir la prueba por una caída en la vuelta 14, debido a un fallo en el sistema eléctrico de su moto. El Circuito de Bugatti (Le Mans) estaba en muy malas condiciones de adherencia, ya que poco antes de que se diera inicio la carrera cayó una fuerte lluvia.

El piloto del RW Racing GP de Roelof Waninge, salía desde la tercera linea de la parrilla de salida, pero comenzó una impresionante remontada pasando en la quinta posición al término del primer giro, llegando a liderar la prueba en la cuarta vuelta. A partir de ahí mantuvo un bonito duelo con Héctor Faubel por la primera posición hasta que Kalex-KTM se paró por unos momentos. Salom perdió algunas posiciones pero fue capaz de volver a coger el ritmo otra vez, situándose en el giro 13 en la cuarta posición. Pero entonces se volvió a reproducir el fallo, con la diferencia que en esta ocasión produjo una inevitable caída, que dio al traste con las expectativas de Luis.

Fue una carrera llena de incidentes y en unas dificilísimas condiciones, acabando la carrera tan sólo 15 pilotos de los 33 que tomaron la salida. Lo malo fue que el mallorquín salió de Le Mans sin poder sumar puntos, pero lo positivo es que como tampoco acabaron la gran mayoría de pilotos punteros, Luis mantiene la tercera posición provisional de la categoría de Moto3, con la que llegará al Gran Premio de Cataluña, próxima prueba del Mundial de MotoGP.

Luis Salom: Estoy muy decepcionado. Me sentí muy seguro bajo la lluvia y todo iba muy bien. Estaba muy cómodo en el segundo lugar y sabía que sería capaz de luchar para la victoria. Y de repente la moto parecía que quería detenerse. No sabemos todavía a ciencia cierta lo que sucedió, pero creo que fue un fallo eléctrico debido al agua. Perdí algunas posiciones, pero intenté coger el ritmo otra vez para volver a la parte delantera. Pero cuando estaba cuarto la moto falló nuevamente y se me fue de la parte de atrás. No pude hacer nada para evitar la caída.

Johan Stigefelt (Director del Equipo): Tuvimos una buena oportunidad para ganar la carrera. Una vez más, Luis ha demostrado que bajo estas circunstancias es un piloto superior y tiene potencial para ganar carreras. Por lo tanto estamos molestos por no haber podido sumar unos valiosos puntos. Afortunadamente nuestros rivales más cercanos tampoco lo han hecho. Ahora tenemos que ir a Barcelona y trabajar en conjunto con Kalex y KTM para tener una moto aún mejor.

ONE VICTORY APIECE FOR HUFF AND D’ASTE

The WTCC race day at the Salzburgring had two faces. The first race delivered another 1-2-3 for Chevrolet, while the second one saw Stefano DAste claiming his first win after a dramatic last lap.
Rob Huff, Yvan Muller and Alain Menu dominated Race 1, but at the same time they treated the Austrian fans to a good show, engaging each other in close fights nearly at every corner.
The second race was set to end in another 1-2-3 for Chevrolet, as Muller, Huff and Menu were able to recover and take command despite starting ninth, tenth and eighth respectively. However, tyre problems plagued all the three Cruze cars and also the León cars of Monteiro, Tarquini and Dudukalo and this resulted in a last-corner sprint that propelled DAste towards an unexpected victory from Huff and Tom Coronel.
In terms of the title fight, Huff emerged as the overall winner of the weekend. The Englishman overtook Menu for second place and also reduced his gap from Yvan Muller to only eight points, which promises exciting battles for the second half of the season.
In the Yokohama Trophy, before DAstes sensational overall triumph (that followed Norbert Micheliszs in the previous event), Alex MacDowall won the category in the first race, claiming his maiden victory since he joined the championship.
The championship will resume at Portimão, Portugal on June 3 for rounds 13 and 14.

ETCC ROUNDS 5 & 6

MONJE AND SEAT DOMINATE IN AUSTRIA

Fernando Monje, driving a SEAT León TDi, took back-to-back victories at the Salzburgring despite having to fight his way through the field in both races. Starting from 11^th on the grid in Race 1 and 8^th in Race 2, Monje twice carefully picked his way through to the front and, with an extra 3 Super 2000 Championship points for qualifying on pole position, takes the maximum 23
points away from Austria. Monjes lead in S2000 with only two races remaining is now 12 points, with both Peter Rikli (Honda Civic) and Petr Fulín (BMW 320si) still able to clinch the title.
In the Single-Make Trophy, there was one win and one second place apiece for Norways Stian Paulsen and Andreas Pfister from Germany. Just one point separates the pair heading for the final pair of races.
The honours were also split in the Super 1600 category, with victories going to the two Ford Fiesta drivers Kevin Krammes and Paulo Necchi. Its now only these two that can win the S1600 crown, with Krammes leading Necchi by 17 points.
Finally, the Super Production category saw both victories go to Russias Nikolay Karamyshev, who has extended his head over Aleksandar Toić to 11 points. The pair made contact several times during the second race so we can expect the two races at Imola to be anything but straightforward!

Points for Team Aon in both races

Team Aons James Nash has scored points in both races this weekend at the Salzburgring, Austria. Having qualified 13th the Brit driver made his way up to finish in a strong tenth position in both races. Team mate Tom Chilton started race one from the back of the grid after a penalty, however made up a handful of places to finish 16th and 11th respectively.

Despite a difficult qualifying for the team on Saturday both drivers were looking strong to make up places from their starting positions. The first race of the day was a reserved affair from the start and by the end of the first lap Nash had lost one place while Chilton had made up a handful to place him 17th.

Both Nash and Chilton made up one place with the retirement of Alberto Cerqui and gained a further place after Darryl OYoungs off track excursion put him in the gravel and out of the race. This ultimately brought out the safety car for a few laps while the stricken car was removed to a safer place.

A clean restart with no positions lost or gained ensured Nash was P12 and Chilton P15 as the race got back underway. However just a few minutes later contact between Aleksei Dudukalo and Mehdi Bennani elevated both Team Aon drivers up the field and Nash into the points. As they crossed the finish line Nash picked up a point for tenth place while Chilton finished 16th having made his way through the grid from his last place grid slot.

With less than an hour between the two races it was a quick turnaround for the team as Chilton and Nash made their way back out on the grid for the final race of the weekend.

As the lights went green both Team Aon drivers once again made good clean starts with Chilton making up three places to put him 16th; Nash meanwhile was holding on to 13th place.

After a few laps it became clear that many drivers were having issues up and down the grid. Tiago Montiero was the first to suffer as he locked his wheels which sent him straight on at turn one.

Next it was Alain Menu who hit the gravel, closely followed by Alex MacDowall on the very same corner. Soon enough most of the front wheel drive cars were falling by the wayside; Gabriele Tarquini and Dudukalo both had front left punctures while Di Sabitino also lost out in the closing laps.

With all of the problems around them Nash and Chilton had moved up to a solid 11th and 12th place by the last lap. However a problem for one of their competitors on the very last lap meant that Nash collected the final point for finishing tenth; Chilton was just outside in 11th.

Having picked up points in both races James said, Its been quite a challenging weekend for me, and I didnt feel that I maximised my own performance during qualifying yesterday. However these two races have given us a strong idea of the direction we need to be going in. Its great to have scored points in both races this weekend to be consistent and walk away with points during both races is always a positive.

Reflecting on the days racing, Tom said I made great starts on both the rolling and standing starts making up two or three cars by the first corner in each race. Considering weve had a few problems this weekend I was really happy to have gone from last to 11th. It was quite interesting seeing everybody spinning off around me during the last race it shows how hard everyone was pushing this weekend.

Every session weve gone out weve made the car go faster by using a different direction on the set-up so Im looking forward to getting back in the car in Portimao so we can continue to go faster.

Zweiter Saisonsieg: Paffett gewinnt Heimspiel in Brands Hatch

Fawkham. Er ist der Mann der Stunde in der DTM: Der Brite Gary Paffett gewann im DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé souverän den dritten Lauf des Jahres in Brands Hatch (GB). Beim ersten Auslandsauftritt der populärsten internationalen Tourenwagenserie in dieser Saison feierte der 31-Jährige beim Heimspiel einen Start-Ziel-Sieg. Das war ein super Rennen, alles war perfekt. Obwohl mein Start nicht so gut war, blieb ich vorn und konnte den Sieg ungefährdet ins Ziel retten. Es wäre toll, wenn es so weiter ginge, sagte Paffett, der bereits das Auftaktrennen in Hockenheim gewann und nun insgesamt 19 DTM-Erfolge auf seinem Konto hat.
Überglücklich zeigte sich auch Bruno Spengler im BMW M3 DTM, der nach 97 Runden als Zweiter die Ziellinie überquerte. Bis zehn Runden vor Schluss sah es nach einem ungefährdeten zweiten Platz für den Kanadier aus. Dann brach an seinem Fahrzeug ein Frontsplitter und der 28-Jährige musste sich gegen den hinter ihm fahrenden Mike Rockenfeller im Audi A5 DTM verteidigen. Ich hatte ein gutes Rennen und versuchte Gary zu überholen, aber er hat keinen Fehler gemacht. Nach dem Bruch des Frontsplitters habe ich Abtrieb verloren und musste vorsichtig sein. Das gab Rockenfeller die Möglichkeit, mich unter Druck zu setzen. Glücklicherweise hat es für mich gereicht, sagte Spengler. Mit 43 Punkten ist er härtester Verfolger des Gesamtführenden Paffett, der in der Wertung mit 68 Zählern vorn liegt. Dritter ist Mattias Ekström (Audi) mit 35 Zählern.
Mike Rockenfeller im Audi A5 DTM verbesserte sich beim Start um eine Position. Der 28-Jährige aus Neuwied wehrte sich erfolgreich gegen die Angriffe des zweifachen DTM-Champions Martin Tomczyk (BMW) und schaffte als Dritter den Sprung aufs Podium. Rockenfeller sagte nach dem Rennen: Das Ergebnis ist für Audi sehr wichtig und gibt dem gesamten Team Auftrieb. Am Ende habe ich versucht, noch an Bruno vorbeizukommen, aber ich wollte nicht alles riskieren, da mir die Punkte für Platz drei sehr wichtig waren.
Der Schwede Mattias Ekström (Audi) wurde hinter Tomczyk Fünfter. Christian Vietoris fiel nach einem schlechten Start von Platz zwei bis auf neun zurück. Der Mercedes-Benz-Pilot kämpfte sich zurück und sah die Zielflagge als Sechster. Der Spanier Miguel Molina (Audi), der Brite Jamie Green (Mercedes-Benz) sowie die beiden Audi-Piloten Edoardo Mortara (IT) und Filipe Albuquerque (PT) komplettierten auf den Plätzen die Top-Ten.
Insgesamt 27.000 Fans verfolgten das Rennwochenende in der Grafschaft Kent im Südosten Englands. Das nächste Rennen findet am 3. Juni auf dem Red-Bull-Ring in Österreich statt.
Mercedes-Benz-Motorsportchef Norbert Haug: Das war ein wirklich spannendes Rennen und ich freue mich riesig über den Sieg. Wenn wir diese Serie fortsetzen könnten, wäre das toll. Gary hat sich das Rennen so eingeteilt, wie er es brauchte. Trotzdem war es kein Spaziergang, denn man muss sich unheimlich stark konzentrieren. Christian Vietoris hat nach seinem schlechten Start Plätze gut gemacht und wurde Sechster. Das muss man auf dieser Strecke erst einmal schaffen.
BMW Motorsport Direktor Jens Marquardt: Bruno hatte einen tollen Start und fuhr auf Platz zwei vor. Er hat Druck gemacht und konnte diesen auch aufrecht erhalten. Nach dem Bruch des Frontsplitters hatten wir Probleme mit der Aerodynamik am Fahrzeug. Aber Bruno hat das toll gemacht und den zweiten Platz klasse ins Ziel gerettet. Das war eine sehr gute Leistung. Im dritten Rennen bereits zum zweiten Mal auf dem Podium zu sein, hätten wir vorher nicht erwartet.
Audi-Motorsportchef Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich: Ich denke, wir haben heute das Beste aus unseren Möglichkeiten gemacht. Vor allem Mike Rockenfeller und Miguel Molina waren im Rennen sehr schnell unterwegs. Das Podium zeigt das derzeitige Bild der DTM: Alle drei Hersteller kämpfen auf Augenhöhe. Es geht um Zehntel, Hundertstel und Tausendstel. Rockys dritter Platz gibt der ganzen Mannschaft zusätzliche Motivation. Mattias Ekström hat sich auf den dritten Tabellenrang verbessert.

Zweiter Erfolg für Raffaele Marciello auf der britischen Insel

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) schloss das Rennwochenende der Formel 3 Euro Serie auf dem 1,929 Kilometer langen Indy-Circuit von Brands Hatch mit einem Sieg ab. Der Italiener gewann damit zwei der drei Läufe auf der Rennstrecke vor den Toren Londons. Zweiter im parallel auch zur FIA Formel-3-Europameisterschaft gewerteten Rennen wurde der Brite William Buller (Carlin) vor Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam). Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam), der nach einer Durchfahrtsstrafe wegen inkorrekter Startposition als Achter abgewinkt wurde, ist nach sechs Saisonrennen Führender der Formel 3 Euro Serie. Sein Vorsprung auf Marciello beträgt aber nur noch einen Zähler.
Daniel Juncadella ging am Start zwar in Führung, aber nach seiner Durchfahrtsstrafe übernahm Teamkollege Raffaele Marciello die Spitze. Der vom Formel-1-Team Ferrari geförderte 17-Jährige konnte sich im Laufe des Rennens immer weiter von seinem Verfolger Will Buller absetzen und feierte einen ungefährdeten Triumph. Juncadella hingegen fiel nach seiner Strafe auf den 14. Platz zurück, arbeitete sich aber mit einer kämpferischen Leistung noch bis auf den achten Rang nach vorne.
Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam): In diesem Rennen hatte ich etwas Glück, denn hätte Daniel keine Durchfahrtsstrafe bekommen, dann hätte ich ihn sicher nicht überholen können. Dieser Sieg ist klasse und ich freue mich auch, dass ich in der Gesamtwertung der Formel 3 Euro Serie nur noch einen Punkt hinter Daniel liege. Mein Auto war toll und mein Prema Powerteam hat wieder einen tollen Job gemacht.
William Buller (Carlin): Dieses Wochenende war nicht schlecht. Im Qualifying war ich schon schnell, aber leider wurde ich wegen zu schnellen Fahrens in der Boxengasse für Rennen eins um fünf Startplätze zurückversetzt. Umso mehr freue ich mich, heute meinen ersten Podestplatz in der Formel 3 Euro Serie zu feiern.
Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam): Zweimal an einem Wochenende auf dem Siegerpodest zu stehen ist eine gute Ausbeute. So kann es nun weitergehen.

Gaststarter Jazeman Jaafar vor Rookie Sven Müller

Im fünften Saisonlauf der Formel 3 Euro Serie, der auf dem 1,929 Kilometer langen Indy-Circuit von Brands Hatch ausgetragen wurde, setzte sich Gaststarter Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin) knapp gegen Rookie Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam) durch. Der Nachwuchspilot aus Malaysia hatte nach 28 Runden einen Vorsprung von 0,392 Sekunden. Rookie Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) belegte den dritten Rang. In der Gesamtwertung der Formel 3 Euro Serie führt weiterhin Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam), der das Rennen nach einem schwachen Start auf Position zwölf beendete.
Beim Start konnte Jazeman Jaafar das Duell gegen Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) für sich entscheiden. Beide fuhren nebeneinander in die erste Kurve, doch der Schwede kam kurz von der Strecke ab und fiel auf den fünften Platz zurück. Rang zwei übernahm Sven Müller vor Pascal Wehrlein und Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam). Müller hielt über das gesamte Rennen den Anschluss an den Führenden; die Chance auf einen erfolgreichen Angriff bot sich ihm aber nicht. So fuhr Jaafar seinem ersten Sieg in der Formel 3 Euro Serie entgegen. Hinter Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) auf dem fünften Platz verteidigte Carlos Sainz (Carlin) Position sechs über die gesamte Renndistanz erfolgreich gegen einen drängelnden Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam).
Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin): Ich fahre dieses Wochenende vor allem deshalb in der Formel 3 Euro Serie, um Erfahrungen zu sammeln, um zu lernen und um die Hankook-Reifen kennenzulernen. Dass ich dabei auch noch ein Rennen gewinnen konnte, ist natürlich besonders toll.
Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam): Mein Start war richtig gut. Noch in der ersten Runde konnte ich dann auf Platz zwei vorfahren, den führenden Jazeman Jaafar habe ich zu Beginn aber nicht mehr erfolgreich angreifen können. Danach war ich zwar schneller als er, aber er hat keinen Fehler gemacht und mir so keine Chance auf ein Überholmanöver gegeben.
Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport): Vor allem zu Beginn des Rennens konnte ich den Speed meiner beiden Vordermänner Jazeman Jaafar und Sven Müller nicht mitgehen. Unser Auto war hier in Brands Hatch bisher nicht perfekt. Aber ich habe trotzdem meinen ersten Podestplatz in der Euro Serie errungen und das freut mich natürlich.

ALBERT COLL, Invitado a las 24 horas de Ca’n Picafort.

El piloto mallorquin Albert Coll, participara por segundo año consecutivo, invitado por el equipo aleman STC Motorsport Performance, en la 14ª Edicion de las 24 horas de karting, que se celebrara este proximo fin de semana en el Circuito de Ca’n Picafort.

El equipo, capitaneado, por Toni Thorsten Streicher, que realizara las funciones de director de equipo, y que decidira todas y cada una de las tacticas, a realizar durante las 24 horas de duracion de la prueba, que hay que resaltar que para esta carrera, los pilotos, aparte de tener un alto grado de resistencia, tienen que ir organizados, y el equipo aleman, en esta edicion se lo ha tomado muy en serio.

Contara con 6 pilotos de diferentes nacionalidades, cuatro alemanes como Rick Freiheit, Daniel Ludewig, Andreas Buring, Sebastian Grunert, un ucraniano Eugen Mavrenko, el español Albert Coll.

ALBERT COLL, SEGUNDO EN CA’N PICAFORT

Con motivo de la celebracion de la tercera prueba puntuable para el Campeonato Balear de karting 2012, que tuvo lugar en el Circuito de Ca’n Picafort, el piloto Albert Coll, volvio a conseguir dos segundos puestos.

Albert, que en la primera manga de carrera estuvo presionado por Jose Luis Zarcos, compañero de la Escuderia Mallorca Competicio, y que mantuvieron una disputada y bonita lucha, los dos son pilotos que se conocen y entrenan juntos, disfrutaron, en esta manga como en la segunda, en la que Albert tuvo una mala salida y se colocaba cuarto, hasta que a pocas vueltas del final, el piloto patrocinado por Star Transfers, Albert Coll, lo superaba tras el toque que sufria Jose Luis con Carlos Anguita.

Albert que se mantiene en segunda posicion del Campeonato Balear, tiene este fin de semana otra cita importante, con la celebracion de la 14ª edicion de las 24 horas de Ca’n Picafort. Una prueba dura ya que la resistencia y las tacticas de equipo juegan un papel fundamental para conseguir un buen resultado final.

SIMON GACHET SHINES IN PAU

Fifteen days after the inaugural event fought out on the Ledenon circuit, the drivers of the French F4 Championship met again for the Pau Grand Prix, ready to tear down the streets of the Béarnaise city. Simon Gachet, the "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" 2011, created a stir when he won second place right from the very start of the qualifiers in Ledenon and finished second in race 2 after leading the race for a great part of it. Emerging from rugby, he discovered motorsport last year, without even going through the karting stage, unlike his young friends, Simon has astonished everyone!

Arriving in Pau with great ambitions, Simon Gachet stepped up on the second step of the podium twice for both races fought out on the urban circuit of the city. The "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" 2011 was the driver who won the most points during this "risky" weekend, boosting his rise in the general provisional ranking of the French F4 Championship where he now stands in 3rd place.

After some studious free practice, Simon Gachet completed some great qualifiers finishing with 4th and 3rd places on the starting grid, advantageous positions in a race where it’s almost impossible to overtake!

Off to a good start in race 1 which saw him finish the first lap in 4th place, the "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" would benefit from a penalty attributed to his leading opponents to finish in second place. Same again for the second race where he would also finish in second place after a brilliant and consistent race, the "Gachet" rocket was launched:

"I came to Pau with the objective of picking up some big championship points on a very technical and dangerous circuit. Objective achieved since I did win the most. For that I knew it was vital to succeed in the qualifiers to get a start on the two front lines, after that it was relatively easy because I only had to control the situation according to events on the track, I think I had a successful weekend. A big thank you to EUROFORMULA and RALF TECH."

There was satisfaction all around at EUROFORMULA, as the director, Laurent Fradon, tells us: "He was the driver who brought in the most points from this weekend and there’s no doubt that it will weigh heavily in the balance when the tally is counted for the championship! Simon knew how to manage the pressure perfectly while all the time being fast and consistent, he is among the lead players of this championship and he’s fast becoming one of the favourites for the title. The next step is victory but not at any price, Simon must always keep in mind that it is the intermediate points that often determine the champion!"

The next challenge in the French F4 Championship will take place on June 23 and 24 on the Val de Vienne circuit where Simon Gachet has always felt at home. We can now count on the "EUROFORMULA VOLANT" 2011, and thoughts of victory are now among the possibilities!

Eurointernational kommt mit Tom Blomqvist

Tom Blomqvist kehrt in den ATS Formel-3-Cup zurück. Der Sohn des schwedischen Rallye-Weltmeisters Stig Blomqvist wird im Team Eurointernational einen Dallara F311 mit Volkswagen Power Engine pilotieren. Blomqvist wird zunächst die kommenden sechs Rennen bestreiten. Der Brite fuhr bereits in der vergangenen Saison im ATS Formel-3-Cup, damals im Team Performance Racing
Am Sachsenring darf man sich auf einen prominenten Neuzugang im ATS Formel-3-Cup freuen. Tom Blomqvist wird das Teamdebüt von Eurointernational in Deutschlands schnellster Formel-Rennserie unterstützen. Vorher steht noch ein ausgiebiger Test an. Wir werden uns unter anderem am 30. Mai in Varano auf das Debüt im ATS Formel-3-Cup vorbereiten. Ich bin sehr froh, dass wir mit Tom einen erfahrenen und auch nachweislich schnellen Mann im Auto haben. Vielleicht können wir schon auf Anhieb im ATS Formel-3-Cup glänzen, so Teamchef Antonio Ferrari.
Bei Eurointernational scheinen sich die Söhne von Rallye-Weltmeistern sehr wohl zu fühlen. 2010 holte das Team aus Italien mit Carlos Sainz jr. den Rookie-Titel in der europäischen Formel BMW. Die Geschichte des Teams reicht bis 1989 zurück, als man in der CART Serie in den USA beispielsweise auch mit Christian Danner unterwegs war.
Für Tom Blomqvist ist der ATS Formel-3-Cup nichts Neues. Der 19-Jährige musste die Saison im vergangenen Jahr jedoch vorzeitig beenden, nachdem er auf dem Lausitzring einen Unfall erlitten hatte. Damals schlug er im Startgetümmel rückwärts in die Boxenmauer ein und zog sich eine Rückenverletzung zu. Bis dahin hatte Blomqvist vier Podestplätze sowie jeweils zwei Pole-Positions und schnellste Runden eingefahren. In Zolder feierte der sympathische Brite seinen ersten Formel-3-Sieg.
Ich freue mich schon sehr auf den Sachsenring. Zum einen treffe ich viele alte Bekannte wieder und zum anderen reizt mich die tolle Strecke. Im vergangenen Jahr war ich im ATS Formel-3-Cup gut unterwegs, bis der blöde Unfall auf dem Lausitzring passierte, so Blomqvist. Seit 2003 betreibt der Brite Kartsport, 2009 holte er den dritten Platz in der schwedischen Formel Renault, 2010 wurde er Meister der britischen Formel Renault, ehe er 2011 in den ATS Formel-3-Cup einstieg.
Tom Blomqvist war schon lange mein Wunschpilot für die Formel 3, verrät Teamchef Antonio Ferrari, ich denke immer positiv und deshalb glaube ich auch, dass wir schon am Sachsenring gut aussehen werden.
