FARFUS TAKES FIRST POLE FOR BMW
Augusto Farfus claimed the first pole position of the season for BMW with a lap time of 2:00.672, one year on from his last pole position at Brno. The Brazilian will line up alongside Chevrolet’s Rob Huff (2:00.697) on the front row with BMW Team RBM fellow driver Andy Priaulx in third (2:00.807)
Top rookie Norbert Michelisz (2:01.731) will start eighth overall with bamboo-engineering scoring a 1-2 in the Independents’ class with Darryl O’Young (2:02.186) finishing 12th overall, ahead of team mate Harry Vaulkhard (2:02.384) in 14th.
Q1 - As the 20-minute session began, Huff took provisional pole for Chevrolet as most of the field headed out for their first runs. Huff had a 0.436-second lead at the halfway point but as the cars completed their second sets of laps, Tarquini edged ahead with a time of 2:00.690.
Sergio Hernández’s problems continued into qualifying as the Proteam Motorsport crew worked on his car for a large part of Q1. He eventually got on track to record a quickest time of 2:04.260 but down in 20th.
Franz Engstler spun at the second chicane early in the session before running wide later on at the second Lesmo.
The top ten going forward into Q2 was Tarquini, Huff, Muller, Monteiro, Priaulx, Michelisz, Menu, Farfus, Barth and Gené.
Q2 - In the ten minute shootout the field of ten cars stayed close together on the high speed Italian track as team work and slipstreaming is crucial to getting a good grid position.
On the first lap out Tarquini and Barth both ran wide kicking up the dirt at the second Lesmo. Farfus took the provisional pole position which he then never relinquished. After the first two runs Farfus led from Huff and Priaulx with Priaulx also running wide at the second Lesmo. The top drivers didn’t improve on their final run leaving Menu (2:00.899) fourth from Muller (2:01.078), Gené (2:01.400) and Tarquini (2:01.544).
Norbert Michelisz lost time with the cars running wide at the Lesmos ahead of him, but still posted a time of 2:01.731 to start tomorrow’s race eighth and top rookie. Fredy Barth (2:01926) will start ninth with Tiago Monteiro (2:01.927) rounding out the top ten.
GRID PENALTY FOR TIAGO MONTEIRO
SR-Sport driver Tiago Monteiro posted the 10th fastest lap in today’s qualifying. However he will start from the 15th spot on the grid for tomorrow’s Race 1 at Monza.
The Portuguese driver was handed a 5-grid position penalty for repeatedly cutting the first chicane and improving his lap time during the Q1 session.

Palmer doubles up in Monza

Briton takes qualifying clean sweep as Afanasiev and Bratt complete the top three
Jolyon Palmer stormed to his second pole of the weekend in Monza, the Briton becoming the only driver to dip under the 1m40s bracket after a fantastic lap five minutes from the end of the session.
Palmer’s effort means he is currently on for the coveted clean sweep after taking pole and victory in the opening race.
Behind him Sergey Afanasiev took second, just over two tenths adrift, after the Lukoil-backed racer briefly held top spot. With times tumbling rapidly during the overboost enabled session, Palmer produced his stunning late flyer to relegate his Russian rival down to second. Such was the speed during the session that Palmer’s benchmark was nearly two seconds faster than Mihai Marinescu’s pole time from yesterday.
"Monza has been a good track for me so far!," Palmer said. "I’ve never been here before this weekend but I’ve really got to grips with it, I love the place and it couldn’t be going any better so far. I just got a good lap together and used my boosts perfectly - a two second improvement was more than I thought, but it was a great lap."
Although Afanasiev was pipped to pole, the Russian will be pleased to have bounced back from a difficult weekend so far. Having missed qualifying one due to illness, Afanasiev went on to carve his way through the field in today’s opening race, only to crash out in disappointment late on.
Will Bratt has enjoyed a fantastic day at Monza - a circuit which holds special memories for him having clinched the Euroseries 3000 crown here last October. The young Briton narrowly finished outside the podium positions in the earlier race after starting from tenth on the grid, and he continued with his good form to take third in qualifying two this afternoon.
Championship leader Philipp Eng clinched fourth narrowly ahead of Mihai Marinescu and Kelvin Snoeks - incredibly the trio were covered by just 0.011s. Home driver Nicola De Marco took seventh away from Kazim Vasiliauskas, although both drivers were hoping to be closer to the front.
Johan Jokinen and Dean Stoneman rounded out the top ten after setting exactly the same time - Jokinen will line-up in ninth however, as he set his lap time shortly before the Briton. Having set the fastest race lap earlier today, Jokinen had been targeting pole position, but he lost critical time after unfortunately being held up by Plamen Kralev on his flying lap.

Nach einem heißen Duell mit Yelmer Buurman eroberte Craig Dolby auf den letzten Metern die Pole Position. Max Wissel wurde Vierter.
Craig Dolby ist der Mann des Tages. Nach einem packenden Duell mit Yelmer Buurman entschied der Meisterschaftsführende das Finale für sich. Chris van der Drift, der schon voriges Wochenende einen Laufsieg feiern konnte, geht von der dritten Position ins Rennen. Sein Teamkollege Max Wissel hatte im Halbfinale Probleme mit dem Auto und startet am Sonntag aus der vierten Position.
Die fünf Franzosen hätten sich ihren Heim Grand Prix in Magny-Cours wohl anders vorgestellt. Sebastien Bourdais ist mit der achtschnellsten Zeit bester Lokalmatador. Franck Perera und Franck Montagny schieden schon in der ersten Quali-Runde aus und starten aus der elften und dreizehnten Position. Robert Doornbos und Tristan Gommendy traf es noch schlimmer. Doornbos startet von der 15. Position, Gommendy von der letzten.
Im Finale zwischen Craig Dolby und Yelmer Buurman sah es zunächst danach aus, als würde der Niederländer die schnellste Zeit in den Asphalt brennen. Gegen Ende der fliegenden Runde verbremste sich Buurman aber und büßte viel Zeit ein. Die Chance für Craig Dolby, die er sich auch nicht entgehen ließ. Der Brite feierte damit am Samstag seine erste Pole Position überhaupt.
Auch Max Wissel war im Halbfinale schnell unterwegs. Im ersten Sektor konnte er noch gut mit Yelmer Buurman mithalten. Nach der Start- und Zieldurchfahrt war Wissel jedoch über 1,5 Sekunden langsamer. "Ich weiß nicht, was los war. Ob wir zu wenig Sprit an Bord hatten oder die Benzinpumpe kaputt gegangen ist, wissen wir noch nicht. Morgen wird aber alles berichtigt sein. Mit dem vierten Platz kann ich gut leben", sagte Wissel.
Der Kampf um die Pole Position
Bei den beiden 15-minütigen Qualifikationsrunden drehte Julien Jousse in Gruppe A die schnellste Runde, gefolgt von seinem Landsmann Sebastien Bourdais und dem Rennsieger Davide Rigon mit der drittschnellsten Zeit. Den letzten Platz unter den Top 4 und damit die Qualifikation für das Viertelfinale entschied Alvaro Parente für sich.
Zu Beginn drehte die einzige Dame im Feld, Maria de Villota, ihre Runden. Trotz freier Fahrt qualifizierte sie sich jedoch nicht. Einen spektakulären Abflug hatte Marcos Martinez, der somit schon frühzeitig ausschied.
Lange Zeit führte Franck Montagny in Gruppe B. Gegen Ende verdrängte Craig Dolby mit der schnellsten Zeit den Franzosen. Yelmer Buurman, der am Samstagmorgen Trainingsschnellster war, fuhr die zweitschnellste Zeit. Chris van der Drift und Max Wissel qualifizierten sich mit den Plätzen 3 und 4 ebenfalls für die Viertelfinals. Die beiden Franzosen Franck Perera und Franck Montagny schieden bei ihrem Heim Grand Prix mit den Plätzen sechs und sieben schon frühzeitig aus.
Schon bei den Viertelfinals wurde es spannend. Craig Dolby trat gegen den Lokalmatador Sebastien Bourdais an. Der Meisterschaftsführende Dolby ließ nichts anbrennen und fuhr knapp eine Zehntel schneller als Bourdais. Auch Max Wissel hatte mit Davide Rigon keinen leichten Gegner. Der Italiener dominierte am vergangenen Wochenende in Assen mit der Pole Position, einem Laufsieg und dem Sieg des Super Finals. Der Deutsche konnte Rigon übertrumpfen und sicherte sich sein Ticket fürs Halbfinale. Yelmer Buurman und Chris van der Drift waren die weiteren Qualifikanten für das Halbfinale.
Craig Dolby und Chris van der Drift trafen im Halbfinale als erstes aufeinander. Dolby ließ dem Newcomer keine Chance und zog mit über einer Sekunde Vorsprung ins Finale ein. Der zweite Finalist hieß Yelmer Buurman. Max Wissel hatte das Nachsehen und musste Buurman den Vortritt lassen.
Beim alles entscheidenden Finale fuhr Craig Dolby die Pole Position ein. In den Sektorzeiten hatte zunächst Buurman die Nase vorn. In der letzten Kurve hatte der Niederländer aber einen starken Verbremser, womit er seinen Vorsprung auf Dolby verlor.

Mattias Ekström eiskalt - Pole-Position für den Schweden in Valencia

Valencia. Coole Leistung bei über 50 Grad Streckentemperatur. Der schwedische Audi-Pilot Mattias Ekström fuhr im Qualifying zum zweiten DTM-Rennen des Jahres die schnellste Zeit und startet bei der DTM-Premiere im spanischen Valencia von der Pole-Position. Der zweifache DTM-Champion benötigte 1:29,565 Minuten für die 4,005 Kilometer lange Runde auf dem Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo. „Ich freue mich riesig. Im Auto fühle ich mich sehr wohl, auch wenn es sehr heiß ist. Im Rennen heißt es jetzt Daumen drücken, dass die Reifen halten“, sagte Ekström zu seiner insgesamt 15. Pole-Position in der DTM.
Mit einem Rückstand von 0,016 Sekunden beendete der Kanadier Bruno Spengler in der AMG Mercedes C-Klasse das Qualifying an der Mittelmeerküste, das bei über 28 Grad Außen- und 50 Grad Streckentemperatur zur Hitzeschlacht wurde. „Meine schnelle Runde hat sich richtig gut angefühlt, und ich dachte, es reicht für die Pole. Dann aber hat Mattias eine Superrunde hingezaubert. Morgen wird es bei der Hitze sehr schwierig und die Fitness wird eine große Rolle spielen“, prophezeite der 26-Jährige. Der Brite Oliver Jarvis im Audi A4 DTM wurde Dritter und verwies seinen Landsmann Gary Paffett auf Startplatz vier. Mercedes-Benz-Pilot Paffett gewann den Saisonauftakt in Hockenheim und führt in der Gesamtwertung.
Als bester Pilot eines Fahrzeugs des Jahrgangs 2008 beendete der Deutsche Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) hinter Paul Di Resta (GB/Mercedes-Benz) das Qualifying als Sechster. Der spanische Lokalmatador und Audi-Pilot Miguel Molina startet am Sonntag von Platz sieben in den DTM-Lauf über 180,225 Kilometer.
Enttäuschend verlief erneut das Zeittraining für den aktuellen DTM-Champion Timo Scheider. Der Audi-Pilot verpasste wie auch in Hockenheim den Sprung in die Top Acht und beginnt das Rennen als Zehnter. „Ich weiß auch nicht, woran es im Moment liegt. Natürlich bin ich enttäuscht. Jetzt greife ich eben von Platz zehn aus an“, zeigte sich Scheider dennoch optimistisch. Auch Mercedes-Benz-Pilot Ralf Schumacher schaffte nicht die erhoffte Verbesserung und musste sich mit Startplatz 13 zufrieden geben. Zwar einen Platz dahinter stehend, aber durchaus zufrieden, präsentierte sich DTM-Neuzugang David Coulthard (Mercedes-Benz). „Ich verbessere mich Schritt für Schritt. Auch wenn man schnell mehr will, muss man Geduld haben“, sagte der ehemalige Formel-1-Pilot aus Schottland.
Der zweite DTM-Lauf des Jahres geht über 45 Runden, Start ist um 14:00 Uhr. Die ARD berichtet live ab 13:45 Uhr.

Palmer takes superb victory in Monza classic

Briton captures second win of 2010 ahead of Stoneman and Vasiliauskas
Jolyon Palmer delivered an assured performance to clinch his second win of the season in the opening race at Monza.
Starting from pole, Palmer made a solid start to keep the lead into the first corner before second placed Johan Jokinen boosted past the 19-year-old on the run down to the second chicane. The Dane’s joy was to be short lived however, as he received a drive through penalty from the race stewards. Jokinen had unfortunately stalled his car on the green flag lap, and he then broke the rules as he filtered back through the field prior to the start. It was a bitter blow for the talented racer as he handed the lead back to Palmer on lap eight.
Almost simultaneously Mihai Marinescu made contact with the rear of Jack Clarke’s car in a fight for fifth place. The Romanian racer slipstreamed his British rival across the start/finish line, but the pair clashed as Clarke moved to the right. Clarke hit the barrier and was left stranded on the edge of the circuit, which required a safety car period to clear up the mess.
Dean Stoneman became Palmer’s main rival after the restart - the Marrakech race winner having enjoyed a storming start to the race to move from eighth on the grid to fourth on the opening lap. He later made a stellar pass on Kazim Vasiliauskas for third position, which then became second after Jokinen’s penalty and he quickly set about attacking Palmer for the lead - the pair even making contact during the safety car period!
Palmer was able to hold on in the closing stages, however, with his victory setting up a fascinating championship battle with just two points separating Philipp Eng, Dean Stoneman and Palmer in the overall standings.
"It wasn’t an easy one," Palmer admitted. "When Johan came through the pits, I was leading with a comfortable gap. The safety car changed everything and after the restart the car wasn’t feeling as good, but I had a lot of boosts left. The closing stages were tense, Dean was right behind me and I was delighted to keep him there."
Meanwhile, Kazim Vasiliauskas held a comfortable third ahead of Will Bratt with eleven laps to go. Bratt’s race included a number of smart moves from tenth on the grid. The fight for fifth was frantic as Mihai Marinescu, Ricardo Teixeira, Jack Clarke, Philipp Eng, Benjamin Bailly and Sergey Afanasiev all enjoyed spells fighting for the position.
Clarke was eliminated following the aforementioned shunt, whilst Eng blew his chances after overshooting the chicane at turn one. Lukoil-backed Afanasiev had an amazing race - fighting from 21st on the grid to sixth after missing yesterday’s qualifying session due to illness. The Russian racer couldn’t resist trying to go one better however, and with two laps to go he made a late lunge on Marinescu at Parabolica. Afanasiev unfortunately outbraked himself and spun wildly into the middle of the circuit, which caught out the following Teixeira. The Angolan hit Afanasiev’s stranded car and the pair were both eliminated from the race in heart breaking fashion. The clash left Marinescu clear to take fifth ahead of Bailly, whilst the recovering Jokinen took an impressive seventh.
Benjamin Lariche, Paul Rees and Plamen Kralev completed the points paying positions as a number of other drivers crashed out of the contest. Nicola De Marco and Armaan Ebrahim retired in separate incidents on the opening lap - De Marco having made an overzealous attempt to make progress at the first corner. Natalia Kowalska and Parthiva Sureshwaren were the other non-finishers after the pair made contact late on.

Edoardo Mortara feiert zweiten Saisonsieg

Edoardo Mortara (Signature) siegte im fünften Saisonrennen der Formel 3 Euro Serie auf dem 4,005 Kilometer langen Circuit Ricardo Tormo vor den Toren Valencias. Der Italiener, der am Tag zuvor die erste Pole-Position in seiner Euro-Serie-Karriere eroberte, gewann den Start und fuhr einem sicheren Sieg entgegen. Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) feierte mit seinem zweiten Platz sein bestes Saisonergebnis, Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix) komplettierte die Podestbesetzung. Mortara baute mit seinem zweiten Saisonsieg seine Führung in der Gesamtwertung weiter aus.
Während Mortara den Start gewann, unterlief Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) ein Frühstart. Der Spanier wurde von der Rennleitung mit einer Drive-Through-Strafe belegt und fiel somit auf den elften Rang zurück. Im Laufe des Rennens konnte er sich noch auf den neunten Platz vorarbeiten und verpasste die Punkteränge nur knapp. Damit war Roberto Merhi (Mücke Motorsport), der nur 100 Kilometer von der Rennstrecke entfernt wohnt, als Vierter bester Spanier. Neuling Kevin Magnussen (Motopark Academy) holte bei seinem Debüt in der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt den siebten Platz und zwei Zähler.
Edoardo Mortara (Signature): „Das Qualifying war der Schlüssel zu Sieg. Diese Strecke ist relativ langsam und man kann kaum überholen. Wenn man also eine gute Startposition hat, gut startet und keinen Fehler macht, dann ist es für die Verfolger schwierig. Trotz des Sieges schaue ich nicht auf die Gesamtwertung. Ich denke nur von Rennen zu Rennen. Wenn man möglichst oft auf dem Podest steht, dann ergibt sich der Rest von alleine.“
Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): „Heute war Rang zwei das Maximum, denn Edoardo war fehlerfrei und hat mir keine Chance zum Überholen gegeben. Wir haben das Rennen bereits gestern im Qualifying verloren. Aber hier läuft es für uns schon besser als an den beiden Rennwochenenden zuvor.“
Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix): „Heute bin ich nicht so enttäuscht wie gestern. Mein Speed im Rennen war nicht schlecht, nur leider ist mir ein Fehler unterlaufen und ich hätte mich fast gedreht.“

FARFUS PUTS BMW ON TOP IN MONZA TEST

The World Touring Car Championship descended on Monza today, to begin the European leg of the 2010 season which starts with the WTCC Yokohama Race of Italy this weekend.
Set in the picturesque Villa Reale park north of Monza, testing got underway this afternoon on the 5.793 kilometre Autodromo Nazionale with BMW Team RBM’s Augusto Farfus leading the way.
The Brazilian made steady progress throughout the session regaining the top spot with just over 10-minutes to go and improving in the final seconds to record a best lap of 2:01.491.
It was a good start for all the manufacturers with Yvan Muller finishing the session second (2:01.831) in his Chevrolet Cruze and Tom Coronel rounding out the top three in his SEAT León TDI (2:01.992). Chevrolet’s Rob Huff (2:02.152) and Alain Menu (2:02.223) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Huff and Muller were two of the drivers to cut the first chicane as the field got to grips with the high speed challenge of Monza during the 30-minute session. Defending champion Gabriele Tarquini (2:02.323) posted the sixth fastest time while team mate Jordi Gené (2:02.364) was seventh.
Danish newcomer Michel Nykjær (2:02.667) was the best of the rookies finishing eighth overall, while Stefano D’Aste (2:03.200) was the top Independent in ninth. Hungarian rookie Norbert Michelisz (2:03.435) rounded out the top ten.
On his first outing for Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden, Argentine newcomer Leonel Pernía finished thirteenth with a time of 2:03.664 in his Chevrolet Cruze LT.
It was a mixed afternoon for BMW Team RBM with Farfus ending on top while team mate, and Marrakech race winner, Andy Priaulx had a brake disk explode at the end of the straight. He cut the chicane to avoid hitting Menu who was just ahead, before crawling back to the pit lane.
Rookie Challenge racer Fredy Barth had oil pressure problems so stopped out on track early and then pitted to avoid any further damage to his SEAT León TDI. Moroccan Independent racer Mehdi Bennani stopped out on track, but with gearbox problems. Sergio Hernández did not take part in the session due to technical problems with his BMW 320si, which the team are still investigating.

NYKJÆR FASTEST IN THURSDAY’S TEST
Just a handful of WTCC independent and rookie drivers took part in Thursday’s private test at Monza ahead of the Race of Italy this weekend.
Sunred’s Michel Nykjær drove his SEAT León TDI car in six out of the seven sessions, completing 61 laps and posting the day’s fastest lap time of 2:02.409.
Mehdi Bennani of Wiechers-Sport completed an even longer test, covering 72 laps split across the seven sessions. The best lap of the Moroccan’s BMW 320si was 2:02.993, which was the second fastest time of the day.
Other drivers who participated in the test were: Franz Engstler (47 laps, best 2:03.304), Fredy Barth (50 laps, best 2:03.320), Stefano D’Aste (11 laps, best 2:04.686) and Andrei Romanov (60 laps, best 2:04.989).
FOURTH CHEVROLET FOR RADERMECKER AT ZOLDER
After running Argentine guest driver Leonel Pernía this weekend in Monza, the Chevrolet team will enter a fourth Cruze car once again in the WTCC Race of Belgium at Zolder; this time for local hero Vincent Radermecker.
Radermecker is not new to Chevrolet. The 42-year old from Liège claimed the 2006 ADAC Procar Championship in Germany at the wheel of a Maurer Motorsport Chevrolet Lacetti that he also drove in two rounds of that year’s WTCC. He was also crowned Belgian touring car champion in 2005 and French Supertouring vice-champion in 2002.
Vincent Radermecker commented: "I am really happy with this opportunity to be back in the WTCC behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Cruze, in ideal conditions and in my own country. I am conscious that the level of professionalism and competitiveness in the series is tremendously high, but I hope that my excellent knowledge of the track will be a plus and I am confident that I can do well. This weekend I will be in Monza to work with the team and the drivers, and then I will participate in the shake-down at MIRA ahead of the Zolder race, which will allow me to familiarize myself with the Cruze".

WTCC INCREASES TV COVERAGE IN SOUTH AMERICA
Argentine fans will be able to follow the performances of Touring Car star, Leonel Pernía, on TV this weekend when he joins the WTCC in Monza, thanks to new TV deals concluded by Eurosport Events in the South American Country.
For this season, TyC Sports, the leading cable sports channel in Argentina, will extend its WTCC coverage with live broadcasts of the races (starting with Monza), while SPEED Channel Latin America will also start covering the championship. In addition, highlights and news reports focusing on Leonel Pernía will also be aired by TV news channels Todo Noticias (TN) and Channel 13.
YOKOHAMA PRESENTS THE WTCC RACE OF ITALY
Yokohama is the Event Presenting Partner of this weekend’s WTCC event in Monza.
As title sponsor, the Yokohama Rubber Company will gain increased exposure via exclusive naming rights of the event - WTCC Yokohama Race of Italy - and a premium visibility on TV, at the track, on the internet and on all promotional documents.
The Japan-based manufacturing company, who is the World Championship’s official tyre supplier, will use this sponsorship opportunity to promote the launch of its new road-going C.drive2 eco tyre.

Briton captures second pole of season with late effort in Italy
Jolyon Palmer captured his second pole of the season after recording a storming late lap around the legendary Monza circuit.
Palmer’s effort eclipsed Johan Jokinen by just 0.074s in what was an incredibly close session, with the top 16 covered by less than one second. Jokinen had looked on course for a maiden F2 pole but was forced to settle for second, narrowly ahead of Romania’s Mihai Marinescu.
Pole position for Palmer will add extra spice to the championship race, as lead duo Philipp Eng and Dean Stoneman could only manage eleventh and eighth respectively.
"It’s good for the championship," said Palmer. "Obviously I didn’t have such a great points scoring round in Marrakech and they (Eng and Stoneman) were really on form, so it’s nice that they’re not here and I’m on pole. It should hopefully give me a good boost for the championship after this round."
Kazim Vasiliauskas was close to scoring his first top three grid slot of the campaign, but the Lithuanian had to settle for a place on the outside of row two after being squeezed out late on. Nicola De Marco equalled his best qualifying result of the season with fifth as the Italian continued to show good form at his home circuit.
Ricardo Teixeira bounced back impressively from his massive Marrakech accident to put in one of the best qualifying performances of his career - the Angolan took sixth ahead of Armaan Ebrahim and Dean Stoneman.
British duo Jack Clarke and Will Bratt were separated by just 0.014s in ninth and tenth respectively. Bratt was the first driver to set a time on new rubber in the final 15 minutes and the 22-year-old briefly held third. With his tyres seemingly past their best however while other drivers’ were in their prime, Bratt dropped to tenth in the latter stages. Just six tenths of a second covered the top ten in what turned out to be the closest qualifying session of the season.
A disappointed championship leader Philipp Eng will only line up on the sixth row of the grid for the weekend’s opening race. Although there seemed to be no immediate reason for Eng’s lack of pace, it is worth remembering that he was still only 0.660s off Palmer’s pole time. With a 19 point lead over Stoneman in the standings and a further eight point advantage over Palmer, Eng will surely be one to watch tomorrow as he tries to carve his way through the order.

Edoardo Mortara (Signature, 1:28,583 Minuten) war auf der 4,005 Kilometer langen Strecke vor den Toren Valencias erstmals in seiner Karriere Schnellster in einem Qualifying der Formel 3 Euro Serie. Damit startet der 23-Jährige morgen von der Pole-Position in das fünfte Saisonrennen der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt. Hinter dem Italiener mit Wohnsitz in Genf werden sich der beste Rookie Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam, 1:28,787 Minuten) und Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix, 1:28,827 Minuten) aufstellen.
Mortara übernahm die Führung gegen Mitte des Qualifyings und wurde nur einmal kurz vor Schluss für wenige Augenblicke von dieser Position verdrängt. Doch er konterte den Angriff des Spaniers Juncadella und sicherte sich letztendlich die Pole-Position. Marco Wittmann (Signature, 1:29,117 Minuten), der noch in Hockenheim die Bestzeit im Qualifying fuhr, wurde als Fünfter hinter Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix, 1:29,032 Minuten) notiert. Der dänische Euro-Serie-Debütant Kevin Magnussen (Motopark Academy, 1:29,508 Minuten) beendete die Session als Zehnter.
Edoardo Mortara (Signature): „Es war perfekt, ich bin richtig glücklich. Ich hätte auf dieser Strecke nie mit der Pole-Position gerechnet, denn ich mag die Piste eigentlich nicht. Ich freue mich auch, dass ich gezeigt habe, dass wir mit Volkswagen nicht nur einen guten Motor haben, sondern auch ein gutes Auto.“
Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam): „Ich bin etwas überrascht, dass ich hier die zweite Position belege. Nach der schwachen zweiten Testsession heute Vormittag, als wir noch Probleme mit dem Auto hatten, hatte ich kein gutes Gefühl. Außerdem war ich vor dem Qualifying wegen des Tests etwas nervös. Deshalb habe ich nicht alle meine Sektor-Bestzeiten in eine Runde bekommen. Aber kein Problem, mit dem zweiten Platz bin ich sehr zufrieden.“
Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): „Ich bin enttäuscht. Am Vormittag dachte ich noch, dass ich um die Pole-Position kämpfen könnte. Aber ich denke, ich habe es nicht geschafft, den zweiten Reifensatz richtig zum Arbeiten zu bringen. Sonst hätte ich mit diesem schneller sein müssen als mit dem ersten.“

Italian tops timesheets for first time in 2010 at home venue
Nicola De Marco set the pace in the second free practice session in Monza, the Italian setting a fantastic late lap to go fastest in the final two sectors and seal his first top spot of 2010.
De Marco’s late effort relegated Jolyon Palmer to second, Palmer having made a late surge of his own to claim the top spot with less than five minutes of the session remaining. Benjamin Bailly was third as the Belgian racer was in a particularly aggressive mood. Bailly was one of several drivers to make use of the long straights to slipstream by other competitors - he stormed by Ajith Kumar on the run down to turn one late on as he started his own flying lap.
The session ended a few seconds ahead of schedule when Russian racer Sergey Afanasiev made heavy contact with the barrier on the exit of Ascari. Afanasiev ran wide through the tricky left hander, catching the gravel on the outside and ending up in the barrier at high speed. His car eventually came to a halt back on the circuit, but the race director brought out the chequered flag with less than a minute remaining as it was impossible for any driver to improve their times.
Armaan Ebrahim enjoyed his best session of the season, as he set the fourth quickest time - just 0.015s behind Bailly. Philipp Eng led the way for much of the running, but the Austrian had to settle for fourth after the late flurry of improvements at the head of the field. Johan Jokinen took sixth ahead of Afanasiev, who set his fastest time on the lap prior to his accident.
This morning’s pace-setter Kazim Vasiliauskas could only manage eighth, ahead of Marrakech race winner Dean Stoneman and Dutchman Kelvin Snoeks.
Several runners had moments at either the turn one or turn four chicanes, with Jack Clarke in particular having a number of difficulties. The young Briton was eventually given a black and white warning flag for repeatedly straight lining the first chicane. Johan Jokinen, Natalia Kowalska, Ajith Kumar, Kazim Vasiliauskas, Ricardo Teixeira and Plamen Kralev were among those who also missed a chicane on at least one occasion.

Pedro Vallcaneras en las 8 Horas de Albacete

Este fin de semana se celebra en el Circuito de Albace la segunda prueba del Mundial de Resistencia, con una carrera de 8 horas de duración en formato de semi-nocturna, ya que dara comienzo el sábado 22 de mayo a las 18:00h para acabar bien entrada la noche, a las 02.00 de la madrugada.
El piloto mallorquín Pedro Vallcaneras participará a los mandos de una Yamaha R1 del equipo Ymes Folch Endurance, dirigido por Jose Maria Folch, y tendrá como rivales a los actuales campeones del mundo, los austriacos del equipo YART (con Igor Jerman, Steve Martin y Gwen Giabbani), al Team Kawasaki (Julien Da Costa, Olivier Tour y Gregory Leblanc), al Yamaha France GMT 94 Ipone (David Checa, Gregorio Lavilla y Foray), y así hasta un total de 40 equipos.
Las verificaciones administrativas y técnicas se han realizado este pasado jueves y hoy viernes los pilotos están teniendo su primera toma de contacto con la pista, incluyendo un entreno nocturno de 21:30 a 22:30 horas.
Pedro Vallcaneras será el piloto con el brazalete amarillo, mientras que sus dos compañeros Jordi Almeda y J.M. Luis Rita llevarán el azul y el rojo respectivamente.
Tras los problemas que tuvo el Ymes Folch Endurance en las 24 Horas de Le Mans, de donde salieron sin ningún punto, el equipo espera hacer un buen papel en la cita española, algo que tiene al alcance de la mano, ya que tanto por mecánica como por la calidad de sus pilotos puede luchar por las plazas de honor.

Lithuanian sets pace shortly before spinning out of session
Kazim Vasiliauskas has set the pace for the first time this season in the opening free practice session at Monza.
The Lithuanian completed the quickest lap in the final five minutes, shortly before his session ended with a spin at turn one. Kazim was a consistent frontrunner during the opening stages and he managed to head the field with a late push. He then made a final attempt to better his own benchmark, but he outbraked himself at turn one and spun on entry to the tight chicane. He unfortunately stalled the car and was unable to contest the final moments, although his time remained at the top of the timesheets.
Vasiliauskas has happy memories of Italy having taken his maiden F2 victory at Imola last season, and the youngster is eager to get his 2010 championship charge in full swing this weekend.
Mihai Marinescu expressed his own ’special’ relationship with Monza having fallen in love with motorsport whilst watching the Italian Grand Prix here back in 1999. The Romanian has since contested several races at the circuit in both Formula BMW and Formula Renault, and his experience paid off in free practice. The 21-year-old topped the times for much of the session, before having to settle for second at the finish.
Lukoil-backed Sergey Afanasiev has scored points in every race so far this season, including a podium at Silverstone, and the young Russian continued his good form here today by securing third - just 0.006s behind Marinescu.
An incredible run of closely fought times continued down the order as less than three tenths of a second separated second through to tenth. Championship leader Philipp Eng pipped Johan Jokinen to fourth, whilst Jolyon Palmer took sixth from Benjamin Bailly by seven thousandths of a second. Nicola De Marco, Will Bratt and Paul Rees rounded out the top ten.
Ajith Kumar endured a tough session as the Indian crashed out midway through the 30 minutes of running. He ran wide at the exit of Ascari before being spat back across the circuit as he tried to correct the car. He made contact with the barrier on the inside of the track - ending his session on the spot. Plamen Kralev spun out of the action in the final minute, whilst Jack Clarke was one of a number of drivers who continued after overshooting a chicane.

Keine Verschnaufpause für die Superleague Formula by Sonangol

Nur eine Woche nachdem die Superleague Formula by Sonangol in Assen/Niederlande zu Gast war, geht es am kommenden Wochenende schon in Magny-Cours/Frankreich weiter.
Für die Fußballfans rückt das Finale der Champions League am Samstag zwischen dem FC Bayern München und Inter Mailand in Madrid immer näher, doch in der Superleague Formula kämpfen die besten Fußballclubs noch bis Oktober um die Krone. Nach erst zwei Runden ist für Clubs und Fahrer in der Meisterschaft noch alles offen.
Im Kampf um den Titel liegt Craig Dolby ganz vorne, der gemeinsam mit den Tottenham Hotspur startet. 168 Punkte hat der Brite auf seinem Konto. Gefolgt von der deutschen Hoffnung, Max Wissel, mit 120 Zählern. Der 20-Jährige startet schon das dritte Jahr für den FC Basel. Sein Teamkollege Chris van der Drift ist zusammen mit Olympiacos auf dem sechsten Platz. Mit zwei 45-minütigen Rennen und dem Super Finale werden pro Wochenende 106 Punkte vergeben. Nach nur zwei Runden kann demnach noch jeder den Titel für sich entscheiden.
Max Wisselist optimistisch und reist vollen Mutes nach Magny-Cours. "Im letzten Jahr wurde ich Dritter. Wir haben mit dem Auto Fortschritte gemacht und sind für das Wochenende gerüstet", sagte Wissel.
Mit Bordeaux and Olympique Lyon freuen sich besonders die französischen Fans auf ihre Clubs. Insgesamt fünf Fahrer vertreten die französische Flagge. Bisher vom Pech verfolgt wird Sebastien Bourdais, der für Olympique Lyon startet. Obwohl er das zweite Rennen in Silverstone klar dominierte, musste der ehemalige Formel-1-Pilot beim ersten Rennen in Assen schon in der zweiten Runde aufgeben. Eine Kollision mit einem Konkurrenten beschädigte das Auto so stark, dass er beim zweiten Rennen nicht teilnehmen konnte. Umso größer ist der Ansporn für Bourdais, in seiner Heimat aufs Podium zu klettern.
Sebastien Bourdais, Olympique Lyon: "Ich freue mich sehr auf Magny-Cours. Die Strecke ist klasse und bietet einige Überholmöglichkeiten. Als Landsmann will ich natürlich mein Bestes geben. Alle fünf von uns können ganz oben auf dem Podest stehen, doch es wird keine leichte Aufgabe. Nach dem Alptraum-Wochenende in Assen kann es dieses Mal nur besser werden."
Der Nächste im Bunde ist Franck Montagny. Auch er kennt die Strecke noch bestens aus Formel-1-Zeiten und hat am Wochenende große Ziele.
Franck Montagny, Bordeaux: "Es ist schön, wieder nach Magny-Cours zu kommen. Ich bin mein letztes Formel-1-Rennen hier gefahren und mag die Strecke sehr. Vor Assen haben wir hier getestet und ich bin mir sicher, dass es hier viele Überholmanöver geben wird. Das Podium in Assen war ein Erfolg, aber mein Ziel ist es, ganz oben auf dem Treppchen zu stehen."
Zu den weiteren fünf französischen Sieganwärtern zählt Franck Perera. Bei seinem Debüt in Assen fuhr er im Super Finale den zweiten Platz ein. Auch Julien Jousse und Tristan Gommendy zeigten bei der letzten Runde eine gute Form und werden in Magny-Cours vor heimischem Publikum eine gute Show abliefern.
An diesem Wochenende gehen 17 Fußballclubs an den Start – dieses Mal ohne den niederländischen Verein PSV Eindhoven.
