Nach dem Highligt im Rahmen des 24-Stunden-Rennens feierte der ATS Formel-3-Cup 2009 einen zweiten Höhepunkt: als Partnerrennen der FIA GT Championship in Oschersleben. Dort traf man auf viele alte Bekannte. Zum Beispiel Michael Bartels, der momentan die Tabelle in der GT1 Meisterschaft anführt.
Bartels war 1988 und 1989 in der Int. Deutschen Formel-3-Meisterschaft am Start – besonders spannend war sein zweites Formel-3-Jahr. ″Damals ging es wirklich drunter und drüber. Es war ein harter Vierkampf zwischen Michael Schumacher, Karl Wendlinger, Heinz-Harald Frentzen und mir″, erinnerte sich der gebürtige Sauerländer, ″leider bin ich damals nur Vierter geworden.″ Trotzdem oder auch genau deswegen empfindet er seine Zeit in der Formel 3 als extrem lehrreich.
Vielleicht auch aus diesem Grund, wirft er immer wieder ein Auge auf den ATS Formel-3-Cup. ″Als die junge Schweizerin Rahel Frey das Rennen gewann, dachte ich: Wow, das ist nicht schlecht, vielleicht wäre die was für uns″, lobt der 40-Jährige. ″Aber wenn wir ehrlich sind, wollen die Jungs und Mädels momentan alle in die Formel 1. Die haben mit Sportwagen noch nicht so viel am Hut.″ Was für den Wahl-Monegassen aber kein Grund ist, sich den einen oder anderen Namen nicht zu merken. ″Wer weiß, nicht alle landen in der Formel 1, aber dann vielleicht im Sportwagen, orakelt Michael Bartels.
So wie auch der Österreicher Karl Wendlinger. Er gewann damals den Vierkampf in der Deutschen Formel-3-Meisterschaft und schaffte den Sprung in die Formel 1. Jetzt ist er in einem Saleen S7 im Team ″K plus K Motorsport″ unterwegs, das durch das Ingenieurswissen des Formel-3-Teams Swiss Racing unterstützt wird. Wendlinger konnte das Auftaktrennen in Silverstone gewinnen, blieb aber seither leider ohne Punkte. In Oschersleben fiel er kurz vor Schluss mit einer gebrochenen Radaufhängung aus.
Auch der Teamkollege von Michael Bartels im Team Vitaphone Racing Alex Müller durchlief Lehrjahre in der Formel 3. 1997 holte er in seiner ersten Formel-3-Saison in Deutschland vier Siege und den dritten Rang in der Meisterschaft. 2000 kehrte der Deutsche zurück und sicherte sich den zweiten Gesamtplatz. Jüngster Vertreter der Ex-Formel-3-Piloten in der FIA GT ist Stefan Mücke. Der Berliner ist hauptsächlich in der Le Mans Series unterwegs, aber auch vereinzelte Starts in der FIA GT2 stehen auf dem Programm. Am Sonntag sicherte er sich in Oschersleben im Regenrennen den dritten Rang. Unter anderem auch ihn werden die Akteure des ATS Formel-3-Cup im August in der Eifel wieder sehen. Dann tritt die schnellste deutsche Formel-Liga nämlich auf dem Nürburgring im Rahmen des 1000-Kilometer-Rennens an.

VLN: Basseng/Biela/Stuck feiern ersten Audi-Sieg

Nürburgring. Erfahrung und Speed gaben beim 49. ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen den Ausschlag für den ersten Audi-Sieg in der Geschichte der BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. Zusammen mit den beiden Altmeistern Frank Biela (Monaco) und Hans-Joachim Stuck (Österreich) feierte Marc Basseng (Leutenbach) den Triumph des Audi R8 LMS von Phoenix Racing. Der 30-Jährige ist mit 20 Gesamtsiegen seit 2004 aktuell der erfolgreichste Fahrer der populärsten Breitensportserie Europas. Mit einem Rückstand von 41,331 Sekunden wurden Chris Mamerow (Castrop-Rauxel) und Dirk Werner (Kissenbrück) als Zweite abgewinkt. Uwe Alzen (Betzdorf) und Lance David Arnold (Duisburg) fuhren im Cup-Porsche als Dritte erneut auf das Podium. Der fünfte Lauf der Saison 2009 wurde bei einsetzendem Unwetter auf der Nordschleife in Runde 25 vorzeitig mit der Roten Flagge beendet. Die Wertung erfolgt nach Runde 23. Eine absolut richtige Entscheidung, lobte Fahrersprecher und Teamchef Johannes Scheid (Kottenborn) die Rennleitung.

Das war saugut, sprudelte es nach dem Zieleinlauf aus Volkswagen-Motorsport-Repräsentant Stuck heraus. Ein tolles Gefühl, zusammen mit Frank und Marc diesen historischen Moment feiern zu dürfen. Auch Basseng war die Tragweite des Erfolges bewusst: Der Knoten ist endlich geplatzt mit zwei gestandenen Rennfahrern diesen Sieg zu feiern, ist für mich eine tolle Erfahrung. Das Phoenix-Trio beendete mit dem Sieg beim 49. ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen eine neun Rennen andauernde Porsche-Siegesserie. Mein Stint war einer der schnellsten, die ich je auf der Nordschleife gefahren bin, so Basseng weiter. Der Audi R8 hat auf der Nordschleife einen extrem hohen Spaßfaktor und ich bin davon überzeugt, dass dies nicht der letzte Triumph im Zeichen der vier Ringe war.

Mit einer Fabelzeit von 8:09,748 Minuten sicherte Dirk Adorf (Hennef) im Ford GT Raeder-Motorsport die erste Pole-Position der Teamgeschichte. Im Rennen war der spektakuläre GT3-Renner zunächst das Maß der Dinge. Zwar konnte Hermann Tilke (Aachen) die Führung nicht verteidigen, die erste Podiumsplatzierung war jedoch in greifbarer Nähe. Am Ende reichte es für das Duo dann doch nur für Platz vier. Durch den Rennabbruch hatten wir am Ende das Nachsehen, da wir kurz zuvor an der Box waren und so nach Runde 23 nur als Vierte geführt wurden, so Adorf. Trotzdem stehe ich voll hinter der Entscheidung der Rennleitung. Sie haben alles richtig gemacht uns hat am Ende halt das Quäntchen Glück gefehlt. Der Sieg in der GT3-Klasse ging an die zweitplatzierten Mamerow/Werner. Dank einer guten Strategie wäre für das Duo im Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S sogar der zweite Saisonsieg möglich gewesen. Wir können nur über die Distanz brillieren, denn im direkten Vergleich ist unser Fahrzeug der Konkurrenz unterlegen, so Mamerow. Daher haben wir auf eine Zwei-Stopp-Strategie gesetzt. Ich glaube, unsere Rechnung wäre bei voller Rennlänge aufgegangen.

Alzen und Arnold knüpften mit Platz drei da an, wo sie beim vierten Lauf der BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring aufgehört hatten: einem starken Ergebnis in dem von der Leistung her unterlegenen Cup-Porsche. Ich bin superhappy, freute sich Arnold. Bei fünf Rennen stand ich bis jetzt vier Mal auf dem Podium. Im Rennen sind wir heute wieder voll am Limit gefahren da gab es keine Reserve mehr. Teamchef Alzen zeigte sich erneut von dem Potenzial des Cup-Porsche überzeugt: Ich denke, das Verhältnis Leistung zu Rundenzeiten, was Lance und ich zustande bringen, ist nicht zu toppen.

Marco Schelp ist Halbzeitmeister
Das Manthey-Team, das mit drei Siegen bisher die Saison 2009 dominiert hatte, schied nach einem Getriebeschaden am Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in Runde sechs aus. Damit verlor Stammfahrer Marcel Tiemann (Monaco) die Tabellenführung. Nach seinem vierten Klassensieg bei den VLN-Specials bis 3.000 ccm Hubraum im BMW Z4 von Dörr-Motorsport ist Marco Schelp Halbzeitmeister der BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft. Der Berliner errang 46,49 Punkte und liegt damit 0,53 Zähler vor Rolf Derscheid (Much) und Michael Flehmer (Overath), die mit drei Klassensiegen und zwei zweiten Plätzen bei den VLN-Serienwagen bis 1.800 ccm Hubraum Platz in Schlagdistanz liegen. Das amtierende Meisterteam Black Falcon rangiert mit Alexander Böhm (Kelberg), Christer Jöns (Ingelheim) und Sean Paul Breslin (Großbritannien) auf der dritten Position.

In den Cup-Klassen hatten beim fünften Lauf bekannte Gesichter die Nase vorne. Während Dennis und Marc Busch (Hemsbach) im Seat Leon Supercopa und Christoph Dupré (Schiffweiler) und Jürgen Nett (Mayen) im Honda Civic-Cup jeweils den vierten Triumph feiern konnten, fuhr Karl Brinker (Herne) den dritten Sieg im Renault Clio-Cup in Folge ein.

Am 18. Juli steht mit dem 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen das Saisonhighlight der BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring auf dem Programm. Neben packender Rennaction in der Grünen Hölle dürfen sich die Fans auf weitere Überraschungen rund um den Nürburgring gefasst machen.

Tobias Hegewald is the star of Spa

Two dominant wins in a row for young German

Tobias Hegewald has won his second race of the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, after another superb lights-to-flag victory this afternoon (Sunday).

The German driver got a good start and went on to extend his lead by around half a second per lap; he eventually won the race by more than seven seconds. Andy Soucek claimed second place after seeing off the attentions of Robert Wickens midway through the 15 lap contest.

Wickens completed the podium – the Red Bull-backed Canadian’s car had to be repaired overnight following heavy damage sustained in a startline shunt yesterday, but showed little ill-effect when he battled past Alex Brundle at Eau Rouge on the first lap. Having initially lost third position to the young Briton at La Source, Wickens responded with a banzai move at the legendary corner. He went on to pressure Soucek, before settling for third and six championship points.

Milo Pavlović took fourth after passing Alex Brundle on lap 11. Julien Jousse also attacked Brundle in the closing stages, but was unable to make a move stick. Kazim Vasiliauskas took seventh after a fantastic move past Mikhail Aleshin, the Lithuanian getting a great run across the start/finish line and completing the move on the inside at La Source.
Aleshin clinched the final point, ahead of his Red Bull Junior colleague Mirko Bortolotti. Carlos Iaconelli rounded out the top ten.
Jolyon Palmer and Jack Clarke both retired on the first lap after an ambitious move by Clarke at turn 7 resulted in a collision. Henry Surtees was also forced to retire after being hit by Germán Sánchez at the entry to Eau Rouge on lap 3. Sánchez was able to continue but eventually pulled into the pits on lap 14.
Hegewald, though, was never threatened on his way to a dominant win. The German driver has topped all six sessions at Spa this weekend. Soucek has returned to the top of the overall standings – two points ahead of Wickens and three ahead of Jousse. ‚Star of Spa‘ Tobias Hegewald is now fourth in the championship, just six points off the lead.

Tobias Hegewald said: "It has been an amazing weekend – I was fastest in every session and I came away with maximum points. The race was not easy at the start because my car felt nervous, but I took the win and now I can allow myself to focus on fighting for the championship. I have 22 points, which is not very far from the top, and I’m really keen to win it if I can. Spa is my favourite track and I love driving here – the weekend has been just perfect!"

Andy Soucek said: "I knew I could make a good start and hopefully overtake Tobias, but he has had a perfect weekend with no mistakes at all. The most I could do was brake a little bit later than Robert and get second which is good for the championship – I recovered from my penalty yesterday and I am again leading it. Hopefully Tobias will not have the same weekend at Brands Hatch!"

Robert Wickens said: "I’m happy to be back on the podium but I definitely need to do better at Brands Hatch. Another six points doesn’t hurt but obviously I would have rather got four more, but it’s still a long year."

Jamie Green gewinnt DTM-Krimi am Norisring

Nürnberg. Der Brite Jamie Green gewinnt für Mercedes-Benz auf dem Norisring einen absoluten DTM-Krimi und setzt damit die Siegesserie der Stuttgarter beim einzigen Stadtrennen im DTM-Kalender fort. Seit dem Jahr 2003 stand immer ein Mercedes-Benz-Pilot ganz oben auf dem Podest. Für Green ist es der fünfte Sieg seiner DTM-Karriere und der zweite in Folge auf dieser Strecke. Ich kann meine Freude in Worten gar nicht ausdrücken. Timo hat gut dicht gemacht, und ich war mir nicht ganz sicher, welche Strategie ich fahren soll. Ich habe vier Jahre einen Neuwagen pilotiert und jetzt im Jahreswagen hat es so gut geklappt. Es war schön, wieder hier zu sein und sich den Kritikern zu stellen, freute sich der 27-Jährige. Markenkollege Bruno Spengler (CDN) sorgte mit seinem zweiten Platz für einen Mercedes-Benz-Doppelerfolg. Dritter und somit bester Audi-Pilot wurde der Schwede Mattias Ekström. Das Rennen war sehr gut und fair – auch wenn ich traurig darüber bin, dass Audi nicht gewonnen hat. Ich freu mich auf die kommenden Rennen, sagte der DTM-Champion von 2004 und 2007.
Was für ein Finale des DTM-Wochenendes auf dem Norisring, das 132.000 Besucher vor Ort verfolgten. In den letzten vier Runden des 80 Umläufe langen Rennens sahen die Fans drei verschiedene Führende. Titelverteidiger Timo Scheider lag bis vier Runden vor Schluss mit seinem Audi A4 DTM vor Spengler und Green. Das Führungstrio trennte zwischenzeitlich weniger als 0,6 Sekunden. In der vorletzten Runde nimmt Green nach einem Tür-an-Tür-Duell Scheider die Führung ab. Spengler und sogar der bis dahin viertplatzierte Mattias Ekström überholen Scheider ebenfalls und sichern sich keine vier Kilometer vor Ende des Rennens Platz zwei und drei. Scheider verbucht als Vierter noch fünf Punkte im Titelkampf und behält Platz eins in der Gesamtwertung.
Auch Mercedes-Benz-Pilot Ralf Schumacher hat einen Grund zum Feiern. Der ehemalige Formel-1-Pilot schaffte mit Rang sechs seine bisher beste Platzierung in einem DTM-Rennen. Sein Rückstand auf den Sieger des zweiten Saisonrennens am EuroSpeedway, Markenkollege Gary Paffett, betrug bei der Zieldurchfahrt nur 0,31 Sekunden. Der Däne Tom Kristensen (Audi), Auftaktsieger der diesjährigen DTM, wurde hinter dem Schotten Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-Benz) Achter.
Unglücklich zeigte sich die Britin Katherine Legge nach dem Rennen. Von Platz fünf in den dritten Saisonlauf gegangen, erwischte die 28-Jährige einen schlechten Start und wurde nach 184 Kilometern nur Zwölfte. Die zweite Frau im Feld, Susie Stoddart (GBR/Mercedes-Benz), erreichte den zehnten Platz.
In der Gesamtwertung führt weiterhin Scheider mit 17 Punkten vor Spengler (16) und Paffett (14). Das vierte DTM-Rennwochenende des Jahres findet vom 17. bis 19. Juli im niederländischen Zandvoort statt.
Mercedes-Benz-Motorsportchef Norbert Haug: Das war ein unheimlich spannendes Rennen und bereits unser siebter Sieg am Norisring. Ich dachte, wir könnten uns die Punkte früher sichern. Aber weder beim ersten noch beim zweiten Boxenstopp konnten wir aufholen. Timo hat mit seiner Linie viel riskiert, und er wird sich jetzt ärgern, aber das ist normal. Jamie ist auf dieser Strecke ein wahrer Spezialist. Das war das beste Tourenwagenrennen, das wir je gesehen haben – und wir hatten eine Menge gute Rennen.
Audi-Motorsportchef Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich: Mit unserer Performance waren wir heute alle nah beieinander, und das war sicher eines der spannendsten Rennen der letzten Jahre. Timo hat immer das Beste aus allem gemacht. Und es sah es bis zum Schluss nach einem Sieg aus. Am Ende konnte er leider nicht auf das Podium fahren. Aber nun haben wir mit Mattias den dritten und mit Timo den vierten Platz – so sind Rennen eben. Man sieht heute, was mit Vorjahresautos möglich ist. Man sieht auch, dass die Damen bei uns keine Quoten-Damen sind, sondern echte Racerinnen. Immerhin fuhr Katherine trotz des vermasselten Starts die schnellste Rennrunde. Das ist wirklich gute Werbung für die DTM.

Liverpool Two Up After Opening French Races

Liverpool FC came out on top in the new Weekend Winner contest when Adrian Vallés comfortably won the Super Final at the opening rounds of the 2009 Superleague Formula by Sonangol at Magny Cours in France today (28 June).

The British club also heads the championship standings courtesy of the Spaniard claiming a victory and sixth place in the opening two 45-minute races of the exciting single-seater series. Reigning GP2 champion Giorgio Pantano took honours for AC Milan in the second race watched by a crowd of 12,000 in hot and humid weather conditions.
Olympique Lyonnais, the first French soccer club to compete in the SLF, head for the third and fourth rounds of the 12-race series at Zolder in Belgium (18-19 July) placed 14th in the standings. Frenchman Nelson Panciatici, from Reims, making his SLF debut, registered 13th place in both races on home soil the 17-corner, 4.41km Circuit de Nevers circuit having hosted the French F1 Grand Prix between 1991-2008. Le Chesnay-based Tristan Gommendy, the only other French driver, netted 16th having been involved in a first lap accident and then picking-up a puncture in race one and seventh for FC Porto, the Portuguese club he drove for in SFLs inaugural season.

Race 1 Liverpool claim first blood
Liverpool claimed first blood when Vallés won the opening race at ease. Vallés overtook the pole-starting SC Corinthians car of Antônio Pizzonia (BRA) on lap five and even retained his lead during his mandatory pit-stop for tyres.
Dutchman Yelmer Buurman in the Anderlecht car, despite being involved in a multiple car opening lap accident that brought out the Safety car briefly, recovered to finish second staving off the hard-charging Tottenham Hotspur car of Britain Craig Dolby who set the races fastest lap.
Pizzonia salvaged fourth at the chequered flag when Pantano who had stormed up from 16th on the grid to fifth in the opening laps dropped from fourth to 12th place after first spinning his AC Milan car with less than five minutes remaining and then retiring with fuel issues.
Liverpool FC: Adrian Vallés (SP)
It was a good race pretty comfortable. My only problem was that at the start I had to switch the gearbox to manual mode so for the opening laps I was getting used to that. But I got in to a rhythm, caught the Corinthians car and overtook it it was a great way to start the SLF season.
Anderlecht: Yelmer Buurman (NED)
I lost some places at the start and was then hit further around the opening lap, causing me to spin and with damaged bodywork. I recovered and then enjoyed a good fight with the Tottenham car in the closing stages. Im very happy with second place.
Tottenham Hotspur: Craig Dolby (GB)
I didnt stop correctly in my pit box for the tyre change. But on new tyres I was able to push hard and recover the places. I pressed the Anderlecht car hard for second place but came up short. Nevertheless Im very proud to give Spurs a rostrum finish on my debut for the London club.

Race 2 AC Milan to the fore
The Olmpiacos car of reigning SLF champion Davide Rigon (ITA) started from pole-position with the Glasgow Rangers machine of SLF rookie John Martin (AUS) alongside on the front row courtesy of the reverse grid order after both were victims of race ones opening lap accident.
But it was the fourth row starting AC Milan machine of Pantano who cruised to victory, finishing 2.2secs ahead of Rigon. Pantano took the lead from Rangers when Martin pitted on lap nine and was back in front by lap 17 after the pit-stops. The Australian went off at Adelaide corner on lap 18 when just outside the top-10.
FC Basels Max Wissel came through from ninth to claim third place and the final slot through in to the Super Final with Al Ains Miguel Molina (ESP) just missing out on a rostrum in fourth place having fended off the advances of AS Romas Jonathan Kennard the Briton retiring with a clutch problem three laps from home after the pair touched.

I had gearbox problems immediately from the start resulting in me losing the lead. But after the big accident damage after the opening lap accident in race one, this result is good for the team.

Super Final Liverpool claim another victory
Liverpool triumphed in the non-point scoring eight-lap shoot-out run immediately after Race 2 that only featured the top-three finishers from both races Vallés becoming the first recipient of the new Weekend Winner award and a purse of 100,000.
AC Milan finished runner-up to bag 70,000 with Corinthians taking third and the corresponding 40,000 purse. Tottenhams Craig Dolby cruelly non-started the Briton dropping from fifth to 10th on the last lap due to system pressure failure resulting in no gears allowing Corinthians in to the sprint race. Vallés led throughout from Pantano with Pizzonia moving the Corinthians car up from fifth on the six-car grid.Ç

I pushed very hard on the opening two laps to make a gap. It was a little strange with just six cars in the race and a race lasting just eight laps. Its been a very good weekend. I lead the championship and I aim to have extended that lead after the next races and stay on top.

It was a surprise to get into the Super Final when the Spurs car had a problem and couldnt take the start. The entire weekend has been pretty good for us. However, in race one I lost time at my pit-stop when a wheel gun malfunctioned. In race two, I struggled on my first set of tyres. Qualifying had been good we just need to make sure these little problems dont happen

Christian Vietoris triumphiert am Norisring

Zum zweiten Mal in Folge entschied Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport) ein Sonntag-Rennen der Formel 3 Euro Serie für sich. Der 20-jährige Deutsche siegte auf dem 2,3 Kilometer langen Norisring vor Jean Karl Vernay (Signature) und Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix). In einem ereignisreichen Rennen, das von insgesamt drei Safety-Car-Phasen geprägt wurde, holte Atte Mustonen (Motopark Academy) mit dem vierten Rang das beste Ergebnis seines erst in dieser Saison in die Euro Serie eingestiegenen Teams Motopark Academy. Bianchi bleibt nach sechs Saisonrennen Tabellenführer der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt.

Nach dem Start bog Pole-Mann Sam Bird (Mücke Motorsport) als Führender in die erste Kurve. Der Brite hielt die erste Stelle bis zur fünften Runde, dann verbremste sich Alexander Sims und kollidierte mit seinem Landsmann. Bird schied aus und Roberto Merhi (Manor Motorsport) übernahm Rang eins. Der Spanier wurde wenig später von Christian Vietoris überholt, der sich fast bis zum Ende des Rennens gegen Jean Karl Vernay wehren musste. In der Schlussphase konnte Vietoris sich schließlich absetzen, weil Jules Bianchi massiv Druck auf den Zweitplatzierten Vernay ausübte.
Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport): Ich freue mich über den Sieg und die wichtigen Punkte. Es wäre allerdings schön, wenn wir das bald auch am Samstag schaffen könnten. Zu Beginn profitierte ich vom Unfall meiner beiden Teamkollegen Alexander Sims und Sam Bird. Später war es wichtig, eine Lücke auf Jean Karl und Jules herauszufahren, denn die beiden waren sehr schnell.
Jean Karl Vernay (Signature): Ich bin in der Anfangsphase gleich zweimal mit Esteban Gutierrez aneinander geraten, danach war mein Seitenkasten hinüber. Ohne diese Probleme hätte ich auch gewinnen können, aber ich kann auch mit dem zweiten Platz gut leben.
Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix): Nach dem Start war ich an der falschen Stelle und bin bis auf Rang zehn zurückgefallen. Dann konnte ich mich aber wieder nach vorne kämpfen. Das Duell mit Jean Karl in den letzten Rennrunden war klasse. Der dritte Platz bringt mir wieder wichtige Punkte im Kampf um den Titel.

Liverpool FC with Adrian Valles wins Race 1 at Magny Cours

Liverpool FC claimed first blood in the Superleague Formula by Sonangol when Spaniard Adrian Vallés comfortably won the opening race at Magny Cours in France today (28 June).

Vallés went into the lead on lap five and even retained his lead during the mandatory pit-stop for tyres.

Dutchman Yelmer Buurman in the Anderlecht car, despite being involved in an opening lap multiple car accident, came home second after successfully defending from the Tottenham Hotspur car of Britain Craig Dolby the pair separated by less than a second at the chequered flag.

The pole-starting SC Corinthians car of Antônio Pizzonia (BRA) ultimately finished fourth after reigning GP2 champion Giorgio Pantano dropped from fourth to 12th place after spinning his AC Milan car at high speed with less than five minutes remaining.

A second 45-minute race, with the 18-cars lining up in the reverse of the opening race finishing order, plus a new three-lap non-points scoring shoot out for the top-three in races one and two, are staged later today.

Liverpool FC: Adrian Vallés (SP)

It was a good race pretty comfortable. My only problem was that at the start I had to switch the gearbox to manual mode at the start so for the opening two laps I was getting used to that. But I got in to a rhythm, caught up the Corinthians car again and overtook him. It was a good race and a great way to start the SLF season.

Anderlecht: Yelmer Buurman (NED)

The start was difficult as the pole-starting Corinthians car seemed to back off just before the green light at the start line and the Tottenham car overtook me at the first corner. But then I was hit further around the opening lap, causing me to spin and damaging the bodywork. Despite being unsure about the level of damage, I continued. It was a good fight with the Tottenham car in the closing stages and Im very happy with second place.

Tottenham Hotspur: Craig Dolby (GB)

We started on old tyres but I got around the outside of the Liverpool and Anderlecht cars at the start before Liverpool got me back going into turn 2. I didnt stop exactly right in my pit box for the tyre change which delayed us. But on new tyres I was able to push hard and recover the places Id lost due to the stop. I pressed the Anderlecht car hard for second place but came up a little short. Nevertheless Im very proud to give Spurs a rostrum finish on my debut for the London club.

The Brazilian clubs car driven by Antônio Pizzonia (BRA) netted the fastest time in todays (27 June) two-car Qualifying Final against the Liverpool FC machine of Adrian Vallés (ESP) staged in hot and humid weather conditions.
Pizzonia, aged 28, set a time of 1min 26.555secs around the 4.41km Circuit de Nevers circuit in the final 0.299-secs faster than Vallés (23) as the pair battled for supremacy at the culmination of the qualifying knock-out competition.
In semi-final one Pizzonia, who finished second in the final race of the SLF inaugural season, beat Craig Dolby’s Tottenham Hotspur car despite a lock-up at the Adelaide hairpin when the Briton himself spun at Chateau d’Eau. In the second semi, Vallés swept aside Anderlecht (Yelmer Buurman) by eight-tenths.
French drivers Tristan Gommendy and Nelson Panciatici start the opening 45-minute race from sixth and 15th places respectively in their FC Porto and Olympique Lyonnais cars. I knew it would be tough. I suffered problems with brake temperatures in my first runs but managed to sort it for the Final. Im extremely happy for the [Alan Docking] team theyve worked very hard just to get the Corinthians car ready having got it just over a week ago. The last time I drove here was in 2003 so it took me sometime to remember the track. Its a good start for us but this is only the start of the weekend and I hope I can keep up the momentum. Last year I was close to a couple of wins so hopefully I can win a race and fight for the championship.

Qualifying was quite good.I was fastest in the semis on old tyres the car was working well. In the final I struggled a little with tyre temperatures causing me to lock up in many places but Antonio was very fast. Last year I won two races for Liverpool and I believe that I have a good and strong race car for tomorrow hopefully it will be my hat-trick for the Reds!
Anderlecht: Yelmer Buurman (NED)
I struggled a little in free practice but once we had new tyres the car was good. The temperatures on the front tyres were not correct causing me to lock up too easily and this problem ultimately caused me to go off in my quarter-final just after the second chicane, I went wide and in to the dirt and the gravel which I was mad about. But then I saw the FC Porto car going in to the pit-lane so I thought Id better finish my lap despite my mistake. We were later told FC Porto had been disqualified so I was through to the semi against Spurs I was lucky. We will make changes to improve the car overnight.
Tottenham Hotspur: Craig Dolby (GB)
Things had gone very well for me up until the semi-final when I spun. Id actually backed off my speed because Antonio [Pizzonia] had outbraked himself in the Corinthians car. I braked early but the back end just snapped out and away from me. But these things happen and we have a very fast car for the race so Im extremely optimistic for the races and were definitely in with a chance of scoring a win for Spurs.

Spaniard drops to fourth place in race one

Andy Soucek has been given a ten second penalty by the FIA stewards following an incident at Les Combes on lap three of today’s (Saturday) Formula Two race at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Spanish driver overshot the corner whilst trying to attack Tobias Hegewald for the lead. His car then ran across the grass and returned to the track immediately in front of Julien Jousse. The Frenchman had to take avoiding action and lost his place to Milo Pavlović in the process.

Having left the circuit with all four wheels and hindered another driver on his return to the track, it has been deemed worthy of a penalty by the race stewards.

Soucek has accordingly been dropped to fourth in the final classification of the race, whilst Pavlović and Jousse have been promoted to second and third respectively. The penalty leaves Soucek third in the overall championship standings.

Skoda Motorsport boss Michal Hrabanek believes Jan Kopecky’s second place finish on the Belgium Ypres Rally recently will be a major step towards the Czech manufacturer achieving its debut win in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
Speaking after Kopecky’s second consecutive runner-up placing in the IRC, which also marked his first podium on a full asphalt rally, Hrabanek said the result was very significant.
"Just like we presumed the Ypres Rally was a tough fight for every second, which is actually typical of the entire IRC series and certainly attractive from the perspective of the rally fans," said Hrabanek. "The final result confirms that our success at the Azores Rally was no coincidence and that we are indeed good enough to fight for the overall victory."
Hrabanek, however, urged caution, adding: "We haven’t made the last step, though, and we know that we still have a lot of hard work to do. The experience we have gained in Belgium will definitely help us in our development work and in preparing the car for the races to come, as well as in our customer sales programme."
Skoda will return to the IRC on Rally Russia, which is due to run from July 9-11.

HONDA AND PIEPERS AIM FOR IRC 2WD GLORY

Honda driver Marcel Piepers has emerged as an outside bet for 2WD Cup honours in this year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge following his victory in the emerging class on the recent Belgium Ypres Rally.
Piepers was the first of two Honda drivers in the top three of the 2WD section on the popular asphalt event. Fellow Dutchman Martijn Braat was third in a similar Civic Type R, while fourth place for Belgian Patrick Vandeputte completed an astonishing Honda performance after it scored more manufacturer points than any other make on the event.
Although Piepers will skip the next two rounds in Russia and Madeira, he is set to return for Barum Rally Zlin in August when he will be a favourite for 2WD Cup honours.
"The result means that we are now joint second in the IRC 2WD Cup drivers‘ rankings and we have also boosted Honda’s score in the IRC manufacturers‘ standings," said Piepers. "It was an excellent rally for us and our Honda performed perfectly throughout all 16 stages. All we did was put in fuel and change the tyres."
Alessandro Mariani of JAS Motorsport, the company responsible for overseeing the Honda Civic Type R rally programme, added: "To achieve such a successful result on one of the toughest events of the IRC only increases our satisfaction."

WILKS HAS HIGH HOPES FOR PROTON DESPITE TOUGH DEBUT

Guy Wilks has said he will be able to take many positives away from his retirement on the Belgium Ypres Rally recently.
Wilks, who was giving Proton’s Satria Neo Super 2000 its debut in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, retired on the opening day of the event following a crash. However, the British driver said the fact he was as high as 11th on the car’s first proper event suggested the Proton has a huge amount of potential.
"I’m disappointed and the whole of the Proton team is that we weren’t able to finish and get the mileage in the car we were looking for," said Wilks. "The Proton had been really well received by the IRC fans and they were brilliant helping us to get back on the road after our accident."
Wilks said he had already turned his attentions to the next round of the series, Rally Russia, which runs from July 9-11.
"I’m already thinking ahead to Rally Russia," said Wilks. "We always knew it was going to be difficult against the more experienced teams here. But we know what we have got to do and given time and testing and some data to compare our performance against the others we’ll be right up there."
BFGOODRICH DRIVERS‘ TEAM SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR CZECH RALLY
The search for the next BFGoodrich Drivers‘ Team participant will begin in earnest shortly following the recent Belgium Ypres Rally.
Giving the opportunity for a rising star from selected countries to tackle their home event of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in a fully funded Peugeot 207 Super 2000, the programme will continue on Barum Rally Zlin in August.
Before then, however, representatives of tyre firm BFGoodrich, Kronos Racing (the company responsible for preparing the 207 S2000 used for the project), the Czech Republic’s motorsport governing body and members of the Czech media will have to consider applications from various candidates before eventually selecting a winner.
Last year’s recipient on Barum Rally Zlin, Pavel Valousek, finished fourth on the asphalt event, while the pedigree of the candidates was demonstrated when Sebastien Ogier won the Monte Carlo Rally, the IRC opener, in January.
Meanwhile, Thierry Neuville, who was selected to drive the car on the Belgium Ypres Rally, lived up to the strong reputation created by the BFGoodrich-backed drivers. Although he would ultimately retire from the asphalt event before the completion of day one, he had run as high as fourth on his first outing in a four-wheel-drive car.
"The BFGoodrich Drivers‘ Team operation was once again a huge success with the local crowd," said the company’s Jacques Morelli. "Thierry’s retirement no way calls his talent into question. He failed to finish but that’s rallying."

DTM-Titelverteidiger Timo Scheider holt Pole am Norisring

Nürnberg. Gewitter, Regen und Sonnenschein im Wechsel sorgten auf dem Norisring in Nürnberg für ein packendes Qualifying zum dritten DTM-Lauf der Saison. Am besten kam der DTM-Titelverteidiger Timo Scheider im Audi A4 DTM mit den schwierigen Bedingungen zurecht. Der 30-Jährige sicherte sich in 49,012 Sekunden die Bestzeit auf dem 2,3 Kilometer langen Stadtkurs. Nach vier Jahren haben wir heute die erste Pole für Audi auf dem Norisring errungen. Man versucht sich natürlich vom Wetter nicht beeinflussen zu lassen. Aber heute war es schwierig, das richtige Set-up zu finden. Wir haben zum Glück die richtigen Entscheidungen getroffen, freute sich Scheider. Der Lahnsteiner schnappte seinem Markenkollegen Mattias Ekström aus Schweden ganz knapp die dritte Pole in Folge vor der Nase weg. Der Vorsprung von Scheider auf Ekström betrug lediglich eine Zehntelsekunde. Für den Audi-Piloten ist es die vierte Pole-Position seiner DTM-Karriere, für Audi die dritte aufeinanderfolgende in dieser Saison und die 47. insgesamt. Von Startplatz drei geht der kanadische Mercedes-Benz-Fahrer Bruno Spengler, Pole-Mann des vergangenen Jahres auf dem Norisring, in das Rennen am Sonntag. Das Qualifying war heute wirklich schwer zu fahren. Mein Team und ich haben noch nie so viel über Funk gesprochen wie in dieser Qualifikation. Unter diesen Bedingungen bin ich allerdings über Platz drei sehr froh, erklärte Spengler. Der DTM-Champion des Jahres 2005, Gary Paffett (GB), startet mit seiner AMG Mercedes C Klasse von Platz vier.
Da einige Piloten in der dritten Session des vierstufigen Qualifyings zehn statt acht Runden gefahren sind, entscheiden die Sportkommissare derzeit über die Platzierungen fünf bis 19. Prominentester Leidtragender ist Mercedes-Benz-Pilot Ralf Schumacher, der so den Sprung unter die Top Vier verpasste. Der 20. Platz bleibt unbesetzt, da das Team Kolles Futurecom-TME sein Fahrzeug mit dem Fahrer Johannes Seidlitz für den dritten Saisonlauf zurückzog.
Das endgültige Ergebnis folgt nach der offiziellen Bestätigung des DMSB.
Das Rennen am Sonntag geht über 80 Runden und insgesamt 184 Kilometer. Start ist um 14:00 Uhr (ARD live ab 13:45).

Jules Bianchi gewinnt Regen-Chaos auf dem Norisring

In einem von einer Regen-Unterbrechung geprägten Rennen der Formel 3 Euro Serie auf dem 2,3 Kilometer langen Norisring gewann Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) vor Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport) und Stefano Coletti (Prema Powerteam). Bianchi übernahm die Führung nach dem Restart, der wegen eines Unfalls in der ersten Runde und der nachfolgenden Safety-Car-Phase nötig wurde und fuhr einem sicheren Sieg entgegen. Für den Tabellenführer der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt war es der zweite Saisonsieg im fünften Rennen des Jahres.
Das Rennen begann mit einem Massenunfall, bei dem insgesamt fünf Fahrer ausschieden. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte Rookie Alexander Sims die Führung inne, doch beim Restart zog sein Verfolger Bianchi an ihm vorbei und setzte sich vom Feld ab. Sims hingegen steckte in einem Kampf mit Stefano Coletti, Esteban Gutierrez (ART Grand Prix) und Roberto Merhi (Manor Motorsport), in dem sich der britische Rookie schließlich durchsetzte. Für den Mücke-Piloten war es der erste Podestplatz in der Formel 3 Euro Serie. Stefano Coletti komplettierte das Podium.
Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix): Mein Start war nicht besonders gut, aber mein Restart nach dem Safety-Car dafür umso besser. Ich habe dann versucht, eine Lücke zu meinen Verfolgern herauszuarbeiten, was mir gelungen ist. Mein Auto war gut und ich bin immer noch Führender der Formel 3 Euro Serie, damit bin ich zufrieden.
Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport): Es war komisch, das Rennen nach der Unterbrechung noch einmal zu starten, um noch eine Runde hinter dem Safety Car zu fahren. Beim Restart nach dem Unfall in der ersten Runde war ich nicht gut und Jules zog an mir vorbei. Aber was solls, ich stehe zum ersten Mal auf dem Podest in der Formel 3 Euro Serie.
Stefano Coletti (Prema Powerteam): Es war seltsam, für nur noch eine Runde hinter dem Safety-Car noch einmal loszufahren. Man hätte sich das sparen können oder sollte noch zwei oder drei Runden mehr fahren. Über den dritten Platz freue ich mich trotzdem.

German driver becomes fourth winner in five races

Tobias Hegewald took a commanding maiden win at Spa-Francorchamps this afternoon (Saturday), ahead of Andy Soucek and Milo Pavlović.
The race got off to a dramatic start when Robert Wickens failed to get away from the line. It looked as though the whole pack would be able to avoid him but Jason Moore collected him at speed, spreading the track with debris and bringing the safety car out for two laps.

At the restart, Soucek tried desperately to get past Hegewald but ended up running off the circuit at Les Combes. The Spaniard held on to his second place, but baulked Julien Jousse as he returned to circuit. Pavlović managed to overtake Jousse in the process and the two went on to enjoy a race-long battle.

Philipp Eng and Alex Brundle both retired after coming together in an incident that also involved Jolyon Palmer, whilst the trio fought for sixth place. Palmer suffered wing damage and eventually dropped down the order.

At the flag, Hegewald had increased his lead to four seconds to take his first victory of the season. Soucek was able to take a comfortable second as Pavlović came under increasing pressure from Jousse, but the Serbian defended gallantly to take a well deserved podium.

Behind Jousse came the British pair of Jack Clarke and Tom Gladdis – both drivers enjoying storming drives from 12th and 15th respectively on the grid to score top six finishes. Henri Karjalainen and Edoardo Piscopo also enjoyed similarly exciting races, making several overtaking manoeuvres on their way to seventh and eighth. Mirko Bortolotti and Kazim Vasiliauskas rounded out the top ten – narrowly missing out on championship points.

Soucek now leads the championship standings, having moved to 23 points ahead of Bortolotti and Jousse on 21. Wickens is currently fourth on 20 points. Round six will take place tomorrow at 15:05.

Tobias Hegewald said: "I’m just hoping for more of the same tomorrow! My first two weekends unfortunately weren’t so good, but hopefully now I am running better and I have put myself into championship contention. I was under a bit of pressure from Andy but I managed to get a gap and relax towards the end."

Andy Soucek said: "I tried to overtake Tobias in the early laps, at the start and after the Safety Car, but I saw he was too quick and I couldn’t match his rhythm. I had a few big moments – including going across the grass at the chicane – so I decided to settle for second and with it the championship lead. I have to apologise to Julien Jousse because he had to avoid me when I went over the grass and he ended up losing third to Milo. I’m happy with my race and the result, but I do have to apologise for this move."

Milos Pavlović said: "I really wanted a podium today and I pushed hard to get it. Maybe I was fortunate to get past Julien in the way I did, but I took my chances and the race went well. I got a really good start and was alongside Julien Jousse going into the first corner, and after I got by him I couldn’t catch Andy so I just guided it home to third. I know I have to improve my feel for the car, but after this result I’m confident I can get there."

‘SUPERLEAGUE FORMULA BY SONANGOL’ REVS-UP WITH SPECTACULAR STREET SHOW

Liverpool FC opened the scoring as this years Superleague Formula by Sonangol roared into action with a four-hour pre-season test session at Magny-Cours in France. The former home of the French Grand Prix stages the opening rounds of the 2009 football-themed championship on Sunday and the competitors were given a chance to fine tune their upgraded V12 race cars today (Friday).
Earlier this evening thousands of fans packed the downtown pavements to watch a dramatic demonstration as three V12-engined Superleague Formula race cars roared up and down the Avenue General de Gaulle. To the obvious delight of the locals, one of the cars wowing the enthusiastic crowds was the new Olympique Lyonnais entry driven by Nelson Panciatici. The all French rookie team was joined by similar 750bhp race cars representing two of Europes other top football clubs: Liverpool FC and PSV Eindhoven driven by Adrian Valles and Dominique Muermans.

The street show was followed by a public autograph session in Place Carnot and then the Drivers Draw for qualifying groups at the Palais Ducal. The draw placed Olympique Lyonnais, Sporting Clube de Portugal, Al-Ain FC, Flamengo, Anderlecht, Atlético de Madrid, Tottenham Hotspurs, Liverpool FC, AS Roma in Group A for tomorrows first qualifying session; the remaining eight clubs (AC Milan, Galatasaray , PSV Eindhoven , Olympiacos, Basel , Corinthians, FC Porto, Glasgow Rangers, FC Midtjylland) into Group B. The fastest four cars from each group will qualify for the final shoot-out for the top eight starting positions on the grid for the opening race of this years Superleague Formula by Sanangol on Sunday morning

Auf dem abtrocknenden Norisring fuhr er im letzten Augenblick die beste Rundenzeit und verdrängte das ART Grand Prix-Trio Jules Bianchi (0:55,620 Minuten), Adrien Tambay (0:55,644 Minuten) und Esteban Gutierrez (0:55,712 Minuten) auf die Ränge zwei bis vier.
Das Qualifying begann im Regen. In der zweiten Hälfte des 30-minütigen Zeittrainings trocknete die nur 2,3 Kilometer lange Strecke um die Nürnberger Steintribüne aber mehr und mehr ab. Die besten Rundenzeiten wurden folglich in der Schlussphase gefahren. Bis zum letzten Augenblick wechselten die Namen an der Spitze, ehe Alexander Sims sie schließlich nicht mehr abgab. Nach Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix, 0:56,268 Minuten), der am EuroSpeedway die Qualifying-Bestzeit holte, ist Sims in diesem Jahr bereits der zweite Rookie, dem die schnellste Rundenzeit im Qualifying gelang.
Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport): Ich freue mich über meine erste Pole-Position in der Formel 3 Euro Serie und meine zweite Pole in meiner gesamten Karriere. Allerdings ist mir der Punkt, den man für die Qualifying-Bestzeit erhält, fast wichtiger, denn es ist mein erster Zähler in diesem Jahr. Ich hoffe, diese Pole-Position ist der Beginn einer ab jetzt erfolgreichen Saison, nachdem es bisher noch nicht so toll lief.
Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix): Ich bin zufrieden, auch wenn es nicht die Pole-Position ist. Meine Rivalen um den Titel stehen hinter mir und das ist gut so. In meiner schnellsten Runde musste ich Pedro Henrique überholen, was sicher etwas Zeit gekostet hat. Aber ich muss auch zugeben, dass Alexander Sims eine tolle Rundenzeit gefahren ist und hier sehr schnell ist.
Adrien Tambay (ART Grand Prix): Es war mein erstes richtig gutes Qualifying in der Formel 3 Euro Serie und es ist ein gutes Gefühl, so weit vorne zu stehen. Es wäre sogar noch mehr möglich gewesen, aber die letzten beiden Runden habe ich wegen des vielen Verkehrs nicht optimal getroffen. Im Rennen morgen möchte ich so viele Punkte wie möglich mitnehmen.
