SAMUEL CHECA ARRASA EN EL CIRCUIT DE CATALUÑA
Samuel Checa no ha tenido rivales en la pista de Montmeló este fin de semana, en la tercera prueba del Campeonato de Cataluña de Fórmula.
Pilotando su Dallara F306, con el que ya disputó la pasada temporada el Campeonato de España de Fórmula 3, el joven piloto mallorquín está arrasando en el Campeonato de Cataluña este 2009.
Después de marcar su tercera pole consecutiva, Samuel Checa ha ganado con una gran diferencia las dos mangas de carrera, con una ventaja de casi un minuto con el segundo clasificado, Checa ha sumado otros 50 puntos en su casillero y se asegura un importante colchón de cara a conseguir el Campeonato.
Sammy sigue disputando esta temporada sin patrocinadores, únicamente apoyado por su familia y presentando sus resultados carrera tras carrera para conseguir de cara al próximo año, disputar el Campeonato internacional de GT como primera opción, ya que el Campeoanto Internacional de Fórmula 3 está en estos momentos a un nivel presupuestario muy difícil de afrontar.
La calidad como piloto de Samuel Checa está más que demostrada, sus resultados en la fórmula 3( 6 pódiums ) y este año en el Campeonato de Cataluña lo avalan. Su juventud con tan sólo 18 años y su progresión le colocan como una apuesta segura para tener un representante del automobilismo Balear en las competieciones de más alto nivel.
Samuel Checa: "Para nosotros han sido muy importantes las dos temporadas disputadas en Fórmula 3, aunque la crisis económica no nos ha permitido continuar en uno de los Campeonatos más importantes de Europa. Esta temporada sin patrocinadores estamos realizando un Campeonato inmejorable, con pole y victoria en cada prueba, esperamos conseguir el título y que esto nos permita participar en las pruebas internacionales."

Alex Palerm: DECIMO PUESTO EN MORA, MAS CERCA DEL OBJETIVO
Alex Palerm ha partcipado en otra durísima prueba del Campeonato de Cataluña sobre el ardiente asfalto de Mora d’Ebre con su kart FA.
En los entrenamientos libres, Palerm rodaba en un tiempo de 53,1 a tan sólo tres décimas de segundo del mejor tiempo, el equipo técnico ajustaba los reglajes del kart para adecuarse lo mejor posible a las altas temperaturas que volvían a ser protagonistas en esta prueba del catalán.
Salida de los entrenamientos cronometrados y Alex volaba sobre la pista, marcando el segundo mejor tiempo vuelta tras vuelta detrás de su amigo Ivan Piña, pero un inoportuno problema mecánico hacia fallar el motor y no podía seguir bajando el tiempo, quedando relegado al decimosegundo puesto en parrilla para la carrera.
Primera manga de carrera, Alex se enganchaba un poco en la salida y debía luchar para poder adelantar posiciones, los ajustes del chasis no le permitirían mejorar el rendimiento hasta después de la cuarta vuelta, desde donde bajaba el tiempo vuelta a vuelta hasta rebajar más de 8 décimas, marcando la vuelta rápida en la vuelta 12 con un tiempo de 53,0. Décimo primer puesto en la primera manga, objetivo casi cumplido.
Excelente salida en la segunda manga, Palerm se colocaba en octava posición en la primera curva aunque la temperatura de la pista frenaba más de lo esperado el kart de Alex y debía luchar por mantener la posición, rodando en un tiempo de 53,3 y pilotando con más precaución por los posibles golpes con los diez pilotos que rodaban en un grupo muy cerrado, Palerm cruzaba la meta en décima posición, un resultado positivo para el equipo Diabolo Karting que ve posible alcanzar el objetivo de finalizar esta temporada dentro de los diez primeros del Campeonato.

Erster Sieg für Monien und Zettl
Erster Sieg im Cup für Nico Monien
Der Deutsche Nico Monien (Dallara F307 Mercedes) konnte es selbst noch nicht so richtig fassen, was eben im zehnten Lauf des ATS Formel-3-Cup auf dem Lausitzring passiert war: Mit einem sensationellen Start hatte er sich auf Platz eins katapultiert und war ab dann nicht mehr von der Spitze zu verdrängen. Der erste Sieg Moniens und seines Teams Zettl Sportlien in der Formel 3 beendete auch die lange Abwesenheit der deutschen Hymne. 2007 auf Sachsenring wurde zum letzten Mal die deutsche Hymne gespielt – damals für den siegreichen Christian Vietoris. Rang zwei ging an den Belgier Laurens Vanthoor, der dieses Rennen mit sich und dem Auto haderte. Er konnte zwar immer wieder auf Monien aufholen, fand aber keinen Weg vorbei. Erleichterung bei Vanthoors Teamkollege Stef Dusseldorp (beide Dallara F307 Volkswagen) über den dritten Rang. Nach drei total verpatzten Rennen schaffte er den Sprung auf Podest.
Doch es war kein einfaches Rennen für den Niederländer. Der Deutsche Markus Pommer (Dallara F307 Mercedes) hing ihm fast die gesamten 30 Minuten im Heck und wartete nur auf einen Fehler seines Vordermannes. Pommer lag nach dem Start auf dem sechsten Rang. ″Ich stand im Schatten der Brücke, die über die Strecke führt und so war ausgerechnet bei mir der Asphalt kühler″, erklärte der Zettl-Sportsline-Pilot. ″Deswegen bin ich nicht so gut weggekommen.″ Aber es dauerte nicht lange, da kassierte er zuerst den Brasilianer Rafael Suzuki (Dallara F307 Volkswagen), dann Rahel Frey (Dallara F307 Mercedes) und blies im Anschluss zum Angriff auf Dusseldorp. Doch gegen Ende des Rennens konnte er aufgrund der abbauenden Reifen nicht mehr angreifen.
Trotz des zweiten Ranges konnte Vanthoor seinen Vorsprung in der Tabelle weiter ausbauen, zumal er sich noch den Zusatzpunkt für die schnellste Rennrunde (1:17,726 Minuten) sicherte. Der Abstand auf seinen Teamkollegen Dusseldorp beträgt nun 45 Punkte. Der Niederländer konnte sich von seinen Verfolgern etwas freischwimmen und hat acht Zähler Vorsprung auf Rafael Suzuki und neun Zähler auf Rahel Frey und Nico Monien.
Nico Monien: Ich habe zwar mit dem Sieg gerechnet, aber noch nicht heute. Doch mein Start war sehr gut und ich konnte von Platz drei gleich auf eins vorstoßen. Von da an habe ich versucht, einfach keinen Fehler zu machen. Aber die Zeit ist einfach nicht abgelaufen. An diese Leistung will ich in den nächsten Rennen weiter anknüpfen. Auch mein Teamkollege Markus hat einen tollen Job gemacht.
Laurens Vanthoor: Dieses Mal ist es leider kein Sieg, aber auch der zweite Platz ist nicht schlecht. Zufrieden bin ich aber nicht, nicht weil ich Zweiter geworden bin, sondern weil ich Probleme mit dem Auto und den Reifen hatte. In den ersten Runden hatte ich keinen Grip und als ich am Ende versucht habe Monien anzugreifen, bin ich jedes Mal fast abgeflogen.
Stef Dusseldorp: Das war ein hartes Stück Arbeit, ich musste fast die ganze Zeit gegen Markus kämpfen. Meine Mission war das Podium und viele Punkte, speziell nach meiner langen Serie schlechter Resultate. Ab jetzt heißt es für mich: um jeden Punkt kämpfen, schließlich sind meine Verfolger in der Tabelle nicht weit weg.
TERCERA POLE DE CHECA EN EL CIRCUIT DE CATALUÑA
Samuel Checa de 18 años participa esta temporada en el Camnpeoanto de Cataluña de Fórmula a los mandos de su Dallara 306.
Tras las dos primeras pruebas donde Checa firmaba pole position y victoria, colocándose como líder destacado, este fin de semana se disputa en el circuito de Cataluña la tercera prueba puntuable para el Campeonato.
Tras los entrenamientos libres de ayer viernes, esta mañana Samuel Checa ha vuelto a marcar el mejor crono sobre el asfalto con un tiempo de 1:07, marcando una diferencia de 2,9 segundos con el segundo clasificado.
Partiendo desde la pole position, Samuel disputará mañana domingo las dos mangas de carrera y defenderá su liderato.
Una vez finalizado el curso escolar, Sammy ha conseguido una buena nota en el examen de selectividad, por lo que podrá optar a la carrera universitaria que más le guste, manteniendo como prioridad su formación académica, Checa seguirá compitiendo y estudiando.
Al mismo tiempo, en el equipo Sammy & Zoi Sport siguen las negociaciones para poder participar en el Campeoanto Internacional de GT Open organizado por GT Sport. Tras varias reuniones con diferentes equipos, las ofertas para este Campeonato se presentan cada vez más interesantes, incluso con la posibilidad de disputar dentro de la presente temporada alguna carrera a los mandos de un GT.
Sammy Checa: "Estoy muy contento porque el coche va fantástico y mi padre me está dando todo el apoyo. Este Campeonato es importante para mí, necesitamos seguir compitiendo al máximo nivel y seguir buscando el mejor resultado deportivo."

QUALIFYING REPORT
TARQUINI BEATS HUFF FOR POLE POSITION
Gabriele Tarquini took pole in a tight session that saw six drivers qualify within three tenths of a second.
The Italian achieved a 2:.09.308 early in Q2 which was 0.087 better than Robert Huff’s second-place time. Yvan Muller will line up third with Andy Priaulx alongside him.
Q1 – Yvan Muller set the fastest lap in the final minutes of the session. His SEAT Sport companions Tiago Monteiro, Gabriele Tarquini, Jordi Gené and Rickard Rydell joined him into Q2. The final minutes of Q1 were make or break for Zanardi who narrowly missed out on a Q2 place. The Italian was lying tenth until Rickard Rydell slotted into ninth. Despite a final attempt Zanardi could not promote himself to the next stage. Zanardi’s team-mate Sergio Hernández hit the wall after completing just 6 laps and did not continue in the session.
Jörg Müller was also denied a place in Q2 after setting the 12th best time overall. Tom Coronel qualified 13th to take the Independents‘ pole.
Q2 – Posting a fast flying lap early was the key to a successful Q2. The top four spots (Tarquini, Huff, Muller and Priaulx) were all taken at the start of the stage. All of the competitors returned to pits after three minutes with the exception of Menu who eventually qualified fifth. On returning to the track it was all to play for but spells of yellow flags meant progress was hindered. Priaulx was on a fast final lap and looked certain at a chance of pole until the last chicane where he lost the back of the car. Rydell also blew his chances of a higher grid position on his last lap by cutting the same chicane; the Swede will line up ninth ahead of Jordi Gené. Local driver Tiago Monteiro was one of a few to improve his time in the later stages of the session and took sixth position followed by Farfus (7th) and Larini (8th).

Auf und davon: Laurens Vanthoor
Einmal mehr heißt der Sieger des ATS Formel-3-Cup Laurens Vanthoor. Der Belgier sicherte sich damit den sechsten Sieg im neunten Lauf. Zudem sicherte er sich mit einer Zeit von 1:16,979 Minuten den Zusatzpunkt für die schnellste Rennrunde. Auf Rang zwei überquerte der Brasilianer Rafael Suzuki (beide Dallara F307 Volkswagen) die Ziellinie, der damit sein bestes Saisonergebnis einfuhr. Suzuki konnte mit den acht Punkten Rahel Frey in der Gesamtwertung überholen und Gesamtrang drei übernehmen. Der Deutsche Nico Monien (Dallara F307 Mercedes) sicherte sich mit Platz drei den vierten Podestplatz in Folge. Der Zettl-Sportsline-Pilot wird langsam aber sicher zum Dauergast auf dem Siegerehrungspodest.
Monien hatte wenige Runden vor Schluss noch den Schweden Max Nilsson (Dallara F307 OPC-Challenge) kassiert und damit dessen ersten Podestplatz verhindert. Nilsson hatte einen guten Start erwischt und kam als Vierter aus der ersten Runde. Sieben Umrundungen später machte ihm Stef Dusseldorp ein Geschenk. Der bis dahin zweitplatzierte Niederländer drehte sich, da er zu hart gepusht hatte und auf einer nassen Stelle ausgerutscht war. Plötzlich fand sich Nilsson auf Rang drei wieder, allerdings mit einem äußerst ehrgeizigen Monien im Heck. ″Dann bin ich etwas von der Ideallinie abgekommen und ins Nasse gerutscht″, erzählte der Swiss-Racing-Pilot. ″Dadurch konnte ich nicht mehr so gut aus der ersten Kurve herausbeschleunigen und Nico konnte mich überholen.″
Aber auch Markus Pommer (Dallara F307 Mercedes) zeigte ein sensationelles Rennen. Er musste von ganz hinten starten, da ihm nach dem Qualifying alle Rundenzeiten gestrichen wurden. Bei der technischen Kontrolle stellten die Kommissare fest, dass er zu wenig Benzin im Tank hatte. Doch schon nach der ersten Runde lag der Deutsche auf dem zwölften Rang und das war noch nicht alles. Platz um Platz kämpfte er sich nach vorne. In der allerletzten Runde schaffte er sogar noch den Weg vorbei an Rahel Frey (Dallara F307 Mercedes), vor auf Rang sechs. Jubel auch bei Suzukis Teamkollege Adderly Fong. Der Chinese fuhr heute mit Rang acht seinen ersten Saisonpunkt ein.
Laurens Vanthoor: Ich bin das Rennen vorsichtig angegangen, da ich keinen Fehler riskieren wollte. Dann konnte ich langsam einen Vorsprung aufbauen. Plötzlich war Stef nicht mehr im Rückspiegel zu sehen. Der Rennausgang spielt mir im Kampf um die Meisterschaft sehr in die Hände. Stef konnte keine Punkte sammeln und auch für Rahel lief es nicht so gut.
Rafael Suzuki: Am Start habe ich Vorsicht walten lassen, da ich das Durchdrehen der Räder verhindern wollte. Trotzdem bin ich nicht so gut weggekommen. Der Beginn des Rennens war nicht einfach, da unser Setup zum Ende hin besser wurde, als die Strecke weiter abtrocknete. Stef hat zu hart gepusht und hat sich dann gedreht. Mal sehen, wie wir bis morgen das Auto schneller bekommen.
Nico Monien: Der Start ging komplett daneben und ich bin nur als Sechster aus der ersten Kurve gekommen. Aber ich konnte mich wieder nach vorne arbeiten und hing lange hinter Nilsson fest. Ich kam im Windschatten zwar immer wieder ran, aber nicht vorbei. Gegen Ende habe ich alles riskiert, schließlich will ich nicht Vierter oder Fünfter werden, sondern nach vorne kommen.

Steht in beiden Rennen auf P3: Monien
Wer sichert sich die Pole-Position für den zehnten Lauf des ATS Formel-3-Cup: Der Niederländer Stef Dusseldorp oder der Belgier Laurens Vathoor (beide Dallara F307 Volkswagen)? Zwischen den beiden Teamkollegen aus dem Team Van Amersfoort Racing entbrannte in den letzten Minuten des Qualifyings ein harter Zweikampf um die schnellste Zeit. Dusseldorp hatte nur wenige Minuten vor Schluss die bessere Runde erwischt und setzte sich vor seinen Teamkollegen. Doch der dachte gar nicht ans Aufgeben – ganz im Gegenteil: er gab nochmal richtig Gas! So musste Dusseldorp auf dem Weg in die Box tatenlos zusehen, wie sich Vanthoor mit einer Zeit von 1:16.291 Minuten erneut die Pole-Position und den zugehörigen Zusatzpunkt schnappte.
Der Deutsche Nico Monien (Dallara F307 Mercedes) bestätigte seine sehr gute Leistung aus dem gestrigen Qualifying und wird auch das zweite Rennen vom dritten Startplatz angehen. Er hielt sich auch auf gebrauchten Yokohama-Reifen, die zu Beginn des Trainings aufgezogen waren, in der Spitzengruppe auf und hatte sogar zeitweise die Führung inne. Mit hängendem Kopf verließ der Brasilianer Rafael Suzuki den Parc Fermé. Der Performance-Racing-Pilot hatte sich zuvor für die vierte Startposition qualifiziert. Allerdings war die Pole-Position sein klares Ziel. Die schnelle Schweizerin Rahel Frey arbeitet sich wieder an die Spitze zurück. Sie startet morgen aus der dritten Startreihe ins Rennen und wird versuchen weitere wichtige Punkte für die Meisterschaft einzufahren.
In der ATS Formel-3-Trophy sicherte sich der Ukrainer Sergey Chukanov (Arttech F24 OPC-Challenge) mit der schnellsten Zeit wieder die beste Ausgangsposition für weitere Siege. Francesco Lopez (Dallara F304 Opel) auf der zweiten Position hingegen wird alles dafür tun, seinen ersten Saisonsieg einzufahren.
Laurens Vanthoor: Das war ein schwieriges Qualifying. Der erste Sektor lief immer sehr gut, aber danach habe ich immer wieder Fehler gemacht. So bin ich auf Platz zwei in meine letzte Runde gegangen. In den ersten Kurven habe ich richtig gepusht, dann musste ich auch noch drei Konkurrenten überholen, aber am Ende hat es zum Glück gereicht.
Stef Dusseldorp: Zu Beginn des Zeittrainings waren die Reifen noch kalt und die Strecke noch richtig schlecht, da es vorher geregnet hatte. Aber die Zeiten wurden besser und besser und gegen Ende habe ich eine fast perfekte Runde hingelegt. Aber auf dem Weg in die Box bekam ich mit, dass Laurens sich meinen ersten Platz schnappte. Das war wirklich Pech für mich.
Nico Monien: Ich bin zufrieden mit dem dritten Rang. Wir haben ein paar Sachen ausprobiert, die leider nicht so funktioniert haben, wie wir uns das vorgestellt hatten. Bis zum Rennen werden wir das wieder zurückbauen. Aber ich denke, die Basis für das Rennsetup ist in Ordnung. Im Rennen ist das Ziel den dritten Rang zu verteidigen. Doch nach vorne gibt es keine Grenzen.

Además Albert vuelve con más ganas, al haber tenido que suprimir su participación en la primera carrera de la Copa Vallés 2009, disputada en el Circuito de karting de Finestrat en Alicante por motivo de estudios.
En breve Albert estará a punto y en las mejores condiciones de participar con éxito en la segunda carrera puntuable para la Copa Vallés, que se celebrará los próximos 11 y 12 de Julio en el Circuito de Villena en Alicante.

WTCC: FARFUS BEATS HUFF IN TESTING
Augusto Farfus topped the timesheet of today’s thirty minute private testing session. As the field had chance to re-familiarise themselves with the Porto track, the BMW Team Germany man completed a lap in 2:10.161 on his final attempt.
There was a surge of fast final laps with Chevrolet’s Robert Huff (2:10.590) and Alain Menu (2:10.840) posting the second and third best times. Despite a spell as the fastest Nicola Larini, in his Chevrolet Cruze, was eventually sixth quickest overall. Gabriele Tarquini was the fastest man in a SEAT sport car as he clocked a 2:10.886 with five minutes of the session left. His team-mate and local man Tiago Monteiro achieved the fifth best time (2:11.092). BMW duo Jörg Müller and Andy Priaulx were seventh and eighth fastest followed by a pair of SEATs in the form of Rickard Rydell and Jordi Gené.
Tom Coronel and Stefano D’Aste were the leaders of the Independent category. D’Aste was 12th fastest overall with a time of 2:12.099 but Coronel went three tenths of a second better to claim 11th spot. However the Dutchman went straight on at turn 8 towards the end of the session and did not rejoin. James Thompson had gearbox troubles with his new LADA Priora which meant he had to return to the pits after just one lap. His team-mates van Lagen and Ladygin were 15th and 21st respectively in the old 110 cars.

THE MAYOR OF PORTO VISITS THE PADDOCK
While the WTCC teams were getting ready for this weekend’s event, yesterday afternoon Porto’s Mayor Mr Rui Rio paid an official visit to the paddock of the Circuito da Boavista.
The Mayor was welcomed by WTCC promoter Marcello Lotti, the event promoter Vitor Ferreira of PA Leading, representatives of the Portuguese National Sporting Authority FPAK and local driver Tiago Monteiro.
After posing for the cameras of the local media inside the FIA hospitality, Lotti and Monteiro escorted the Mayor and press representatives along the pit lane to visit the teams‘ stands. Mr Rui was especially impressed when Monteiro showed him his SEAT racing cars.
LADA PRESENT NEW CAR AND DRIVER
The LADA Sport team held a press conference in the paddock today to unveil a new car and new driver. James Thompson will take to the wheel of the LADA PRIORA at Porto for its inaugural outing.
Alexey Sorokin Marketing Director for LADA Avtovaz commented : "From the very beginning of this season we have been working on the car. Each race helped us gather all the necessary information for our engineers. We hope our team will take a step forward."
WTCC APPOINTS PERMANENT SAFETY CAR DRIVER
Bruno Correia has been appointed as permanent safety car driver for the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
Correia, 32-years old from the Algarve region in Portugal, boasts a successful racing CV that includes titles in the Portuguese Formula Ford Championship (1994) and the Spanish Formula Renault 2000 Championship (1996). He also spent seasons in the Americas, taking part in the USA’s Formula Dodge Barber Pro-Series and becoming vice-champion in the Brazilian Superturismos. Last year he started acting as safety car driver for the Club ACDME at the Estoril and Algarve racetracks.
Correia was successfully tested during the WTCC event in Brno, where he performed a number of interventions in WTCC, F2 and the support races.
DOUBLE EUROPEAN CHAMPION JOINS WTCC
Michel Nykjær, double winner of the FIA European Touring Car Cup, will make his maiden WTCC appearance in Oschersleben.
"I can hardly believe that I will participate in a WTCC event. These are the guys that I watch on Eurosport and now I have the chance to test myself against them," said Nykjær, who won the 2007 ETCC at Adria driving a SEAT León and encored last year at the Austrian Salzburgring in a Chevrolet Lacetti.
"Our goal is to compete with the best independents and we hope that the races in Oschersleben may propel our team towards a full WTCC campaign," team manager Kent Bo Steffensen stated.
Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark’s priority for the current season remains the Danish Touring Car Championship in which their drivers Michel Nykjær and Henrik Lundgaard are currently placed second and third behind James Thompson.
ABARTH HOPES FOR A CHANGE OF FORTUNE IN RUSSIA
The factory Abarth team is hoping the luck that has deserted it so far this year will return on Rally Russia, round six of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, later this month.
Abarths lead drivers Anton Alen and Giandomenico Basso are both experts on gravel and are looking forward to delivering a stronger showing in Russia.
They hope the gravel event, which is based in Vyborg from July 9-11, will bring about a change of fortune.
Nicola Gullino, the Abarth team principal, said: We have had a bad start to the championship despite making lots of technical improvements to the car. We have been trying our best but we have not had the luck. Even in Ypres, when we were not in the top three, the final result did not reflect our performance.
Abarth will be heartened by the fact Alen won the inaugural Rally Russia in 2007 at the wheel of one of the Italian firms Grande Punto Super 2000s.
Anton is very quick in Russia but the road surface is a big factor there, Gullino continued. In 2007 the road was very smooth, almost like Finland, but the restoration of the roads last year following a tough winter was not so good and that made the road conditions quite bad in some places.

Juho Hanninen believes he can secure Skodas first win in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge when the series resumes on Rally Russia. Finn Hanninen, who won the event last season driving a Kronos Racing Peugeot 207 Super 2000, believes he will be able to make the most of his reputation as a gravel specialist by claiming overall honours.
I am looking forward to Russia because I certainly prefer gravel to Tarmac, said Hanninen following the recent Belgium Ypres Rally. It is a surface I have performed well on in the past and I am sure I will be able to do so again. I gained a lot of experience on the [asphalt-based] Ypres Rally, which wasnt exactly ideally suited to me, and I wish to thank all members of the team for their support and for the excellent preparation of my car.
Hanninen held third place on the Belgium Ypres Rally heading into the final stage only for a punctured tyre to drop him to fifth overall in the final standings.
I am glad to have got to the finish of this difficult rally, he added. I consider fifth place in the overall rankings to be positive.
PROMISING YPRES SHOWING GIVES WITTMANN A BOOST FOR RUSSIA
Franz Wittmann Jr believes the experience gained on the Belgium Ypres Rally in June will be highly advantageous when the Intercontinental Rally Challenge resumes in Russia later this month.
Austrian Wittmann will tackle the gravel event based in Vyborg in a Mitsubishi Lancer E9 following a strong showing on the asphalt lanes of Ypres recently. There he was challenging for a top-ten finish until a puncture caused a driveshaft to failure and led to his retirement from the event.
If Wittmann can maintain his impressive start to the season in Russia then it will help the Mitsubishi-blessed Ralliart operation to maintain its second position in the IRC manufacturers standings.
We entered the Ypres Rally knowing that we wouldnt stand much chance against 19 superior Super 2000 cars and several [of the latest] Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Xs on a 100 per cent Tarmac rally, said Wittmann. But we can be a little bit proud that we managed to be 11th in the intermediate classification as second-best non-Super 2000 car after six stages. In any case we learned a lot in Belgium and I hope that I can put these experiences into action in the future.
Wittmann is the only driver from Austria regularly competing in the series. He is currently 19th in the drivers table.
Tausendstel entscheiden
Vanthoor im ersten Rennen auf Pole
Im ersten Qualifying des ATS Formel-3-Cup auf dem EuroSpeedway Lausitz entschieden nur Tausendstel darüber, wer sich über die Pole-Position freuen durfte. Gerade mal 0,003 Sekunden lagen zwischen dem Belgier Laurens Vanthoor, der sich mit 1:16,581 Minuten die Bestzeit sicherte und dem Brasilianer Rafael Suzuki (beide Dallara F307 Volkswagen). Doch auch der Kampf um den zweiten Rang ging knapp an Suzuki. Dem Deutschen Nico Monien (Dallara F307 Mercedes) fehlten nur 0,035 Sekunden auf den Brasilianer.
Die Neulinge im Formel-3-Cup zeigten sich auch heute wieder sehr stark. Monien führt ein Rookie-Trio an, gefolgt vom Niederländer Stef Dusseldorp (Dallara F307 Volkswagen) und seinem deutschen Teamkollegen Markus Pommer (Dallara F307 Mercedes). Alle drei haben das Potenzial das Rennen auf dem Siegerehrungspodest zu beenden. Monien könnte einen kleinen Vorteil haben. Bei über 27 Grad Lufttemperatur kamen die Fahrer ordentlich ins Schwitzen. ″Endlich kann ich mich mal wieder richtig heimisch fühlen″, grinste der Deutsche, der in Spanien aufwuchs. ″Ich liebe es, wenn es so heiß ist.″
Wenige Minuten vor Schluss unterbrach die Rennleitung das Zeittraining mit der roten Flagge. Shirley van der Lof und Bernd Herndlhofer (beide Dallara F307 Mercedes) waren sich eingangs der Zielkurve ins Gehege gekommen. Die Reifen berührten sich, van der Lof stieg auf, landete aber wieder auf allen vier Rädern. Die Niederländerin wurde vorsichtshalber in Krankenhaus gebracht. ″Shirley war vor mir und als ich sie überholen wollte, hat sie die Tür zugemacht″, erzählte Herndlhofer. ″Dabei haben sich unsere Reifen verhakt.″
In der ATS-Formel-3-Trophy war der Ukrainer Sergey Chukanov (Arttech F24 OPC-Challenge) erneut schnellster Mann. Nach seinem verpatzten Wochenende in Oschersleben will er wieder zeigen, wer Herr im Haus ist. Rang zwei ging an Francesco Lopez vor Mika Vähämäki (beide Dallara F304 Opel).
Laurens Vanthoor: Es war sehr warm, aber trotzdem lief alles gut. Obwohl ich zugeben muss, dass es nicht so einfach war wie in Oschersleben. Aber ich bin die schnellste Runde gefahren, obwohl ich noch einen Konkurrenten überholen musste. Unser Speed ist nicht schlecht, aber er muss noch besser werden.
Rafael Suzuki: Das Qualifying verlief gut, aber trotzdem bin ich enttäuscht, da ich die Pole nur um Sekunden verpasst habe. Aber wir beginnen das Rennen aus der ersten Startreihe und das ist das Wichtigste. Morgen vormittag kämpfen wir wieder um die Pole. An das Rennen am Nachmittag denke ich da noch gar nicht.
Nico Monien: Es ist relativ eng an der Spitze, deswegen bin ich mit meinen dritten Platz auch zufrieden. Leider hat es für die Pole-Position noch nicht gereicht. Aber wir sind bereit für unsere erste Pole. Wir tasten uns Stück für Stück ran. Auch um den Sieg wollen wir mitkämpfen.

Alejando Palerm: CON MUCHAS GANAS EN MORA D’EBRE
El joven piloto mallorquín ( 13 años ) Alejando Palerm participa esta temporada en el Campeonato de Cataluña y Campeonato de España de Karting en la categoría Cadete.
Este fin de semana se disputa la quinta prueba puntuable para el Campeonato de Cataluña en Mora d’Ebre y el equipo Diabolo Karting espera sumar el máximo número de puntos posibles para acercarse un poco más a el objetivo de esta temporada.
Tras la experiencia adquirida el año pasado en la Copa de Cataluña, el objetivo marcado para este 2009 es poder finalizar dentro de los 10 mejores del Campeonato de Cataluña, uno de los escenarios mejor valorados por los equipos y pilotos de toda Europa.
La pista de Mora es una de las favoritas de Alex y donde mejores resultados ha obtenido, tras su quinto puesto en las clasificatorias de la pasada prueba del Catalán y con la experiencia de trabajar a altas temperaturas que se consiguió en Cartaya, todo está preparado para luchar por los puestos de cabeza este fin de semana.
Alex Palerm: "Tengo ganas de volver a la pista de Mora, después de los problemas que tuvimos en la anterior prueba con la temperatura, ahora se que podremos hacer un buen resultado, porque el equipo está a tope y yo también".
